Floor protection with 4 post lift

My new Bend Pak 4 post lift will be here next week and I’m looking for ideas on ways to protect my newly epoxy’d floor from the rollers on the lift ramps. I had a similar lift in my previous shop and the steel rollers eventually wore through the epoxy. I’ve heard the newer Bend Pak’s come with nylon rollers instead of steel, but I’m thinking with repeated use they too will leave wear marks on the epoxy.

I’m sure there’s got to be a cheap, simple, solution out there that someone has figured out. I considered using some VCT tiles in that area, but they would need to be glued down. I may move the hoist on occasion, so I need something relatively portable. I was thinking about a heavy rubber (or similar material) mat like used for truck bed liner mats.

Anyone have any suggestions to share?

I went to Home Depot and got 2 small gray door mats. Nothing fancy, just something that would not slide around. Works like a champ. BTW, you will love the Bend Pak. Thats what I have.

on my dannmar four post, the ramps can just be lifted off the runners.. drive the car on, remove ramps and lift... i really don't like the idea of the ramps hanging down like on the bend-pak lifts, and giving me the posibility of something to bang my head into....

Bend Pak also has approach ramps locks that are optional, they'll keep the ramps from drooping. They're an added cost and I was told that the lift isn't certified that way since you don't get automatic wheel stops. I think they're under $10 per ramp.

Did you ever consider rubber/vinyl runners they come about 3' wide and are only 1/8 thick at HD or Lowes, they dont slide around too easily, as a footnote My concrete under my lift got stained, I "solved" the problem ,sort of , I go to Ashley Furniture where I get big cardboard sheets from furn and then I get (scrounge)old tear out carpeting when someone does a carpet replacement THis absorbs a lot of oil ,grease and tools bounce on the surface, when it gets too funky I replace carpet and cardboard and start all over.

Good ideas so far. Maybe my best bet is to lock the ramps. I had a Bend Pak in my previous shop and always hated having the ramps hanging there. Just something to hit your head on, as stated. I have wheel chocks I can use to secure the car if needed.

I looked on Bend Pak's site and didn't find ramp locks. Anyone know a part number? Otherwise I can probably just drill some holes and bolt them down or something.

I'll probably get some runners or mats to put under the ramps as I'm sure there will still be some wear on the epoxy. I'll probably put a VCT tile under each post too. I remember having some rust stains on the floor at my old shop when the hoist area got wet from a dripping car.

I'll keep an eye out for old carpet too. With the epoxy, most messes clean up pretty easily, but there are some occasional nasty jobs that really stain the floor.

Thanks!

I am RIGHT NOW 12/05/2012 looking for a solution for my soon to arrive BendPak HD-7w 4 Post Lift.

I want my Rubber under the Post so it won't slip. Not fo rthe approach Ramps.

Have an epoxy floor that is slick and just wanted to glue some 12 x 12 thin rubbr strips to the bottoms of each of the 4 posts to #1 protect my floor, and #2 added GRIP so it won't move.

Want it thin enough that if I use Casters ever, it clears the floor.
