Cheese louise, enough already!
I agree 100% - In fact, I've written both our U.S. Senators and our Congressmen.
In effect the "Public Airways" have been all but completely taken over by commercial interests. At any point in time - if you flip though the broadcast TV stations - you seem to have a 95% chance of seeing nothing but commercials. Shows take commercial breaks every five minutes and they last longer than the program being shown.
I fully realize that it takes commercial ad revenue to support the broadcast programing - but there no longer seems to be any balance between the Public's use of the airways and the commercial use.
This was not the case in the 50's, 60's, 70's and even into the early 80's. If the Public ownes the airways, and the government leases them out to licensed providers - shouldn't the Public have some restrictions on the percentage of time devoted to commercial advertising? I think the answer is YES and yet again the public interests is sold out to commercial interests...
Yes - I'm sick of it. Likewise the funds lost by the U.S. Post Office on subsidizing junk mail.
BTW - afer year of complaining about LOUD TV Commercials - finally the FCC has ordered that stopped - - - effective NEXT YEAR!
FWIW,
