pick your metric. I value #2 the most.

1. best selling cars ever (F150, mustang)
2. most iconic cars ever (the list is too long to put here)
3. consistently one of the most profitable manufacturers

My metrics:

1. Longevity/quality.
2. TCOO.
3. Value.

Ford actually does pretty well on all of those metrics, they're just not quite on top; Toyota, Honda and Mazda top that list, with VW competing with Ford.

And even by your metrics, those brands do pretty well: Toyota Camry and Honda Civic are "best-selling" cars for decades on end; Toyota had the AE86, Supra, Celica GT4, Landcruiser, 4runner, Tacoma and that Lexus supercar as "iconic" cars, Honda had CRX, Prelude, S2000 and a bunch of motorcycles, and Mazda made my favorite car of all time, the RX-7, along with a bunch of bizarre stuff that they never sent to America, like the Cosmo.

VW... I don't actually like VWs, so $%!@ them :lol_hitti

Profit: Ford does very well, to be sure, but Honda hits their numbers every year like clockwork, Toyota has their own city in Japan, and Mazda might be about to own the entire internal combustion engine market, if they actually have HCCI cracked.

For that matter, Mazda was something like 50% owned by Ford for years. I think they both came out ahead.

right, so all those metrics plus the fact that ford consistently makes iconic near/beyond legendary cars in my mind makes them the best.

they're not perfect but nobody comes close to making the sheer amount of icons ford is directly responsible for.

haters gonna hate. ford is objectively the best car manufacturer on earth.

I don't think "objective" means what you think it does.

Subjectively, I think Ford is the best, too, but, objectively, I know they don't excel at everything.

No one excels at everything therefore the only logical conclusion is that no one is objectively the best. That was a bit of hyperbole. They should include that in the grammar nazi instruction manual.

Or you could read that as intended which is "all things considered ford is the best car company". Ford is rarely the absolute best in any one category (except in america). They're just near the top in all the categories which matter with such consistency that it makes them do very well and allow them to push the envelope which might be why the sheer number of iconic cars they've built just dwarfs every other mfg by a huge margin.

Words have specific meanings. Most read them as they're defined in the dictionary, not how someone intends to misuse them.

So, I guess, oops, my bad.

And, again, your assessment of Ford is entirely subjective (and I say that as the owner of 7 of them, at the moment).

Well being a Ford owner of their iconic brand, and all the hype they made about R&D and "making sure they got it right before releasing it," the S550 (2015+) Mustang sure has a hell of a lot of flaws. And Ford has proven they could care less.
1) Some cars with serious vibrations that make the drivers hands numb, no fix.
2) Paint so thin it scratches with the smallest object striking it.
3) Clutch in the manual cars that are literally falling apart and claiming it's a wear item, no warranty. Even though they are doing a dual disc upgrade in the 2018.
4) AC evaporator cores that are failing constantly. I know of several guys that are on #3 now. And dealerships claiming it's another part, simply throwing a charge in it until the warranty expires, then it's the evap core all of a sudden.
5) Chinese made transmission that grinds 1-3 gears when its cold out. Fluid swap at owners expense has proven helpful.
6) Sync system that flakes out for no reason what so ever.
7) parking brake handle boot so tight, it's constantly pulling up on the handle shutting off cruise control or just throwing idiot lights the parking brake is on.
8) Shifter on manual cars that feels like a coat hanger in a pot of soup.
9) The infamous corrosion along the edges of the hood. This has been a major issue with Fords aluminum parts for many years. You would think they could figure out what they are doing wrong. This problem started many years ago and followed suit for the S550 platform.

It got so bad on the 6G Mustang forums they pulled the customer service reps off line. The head of QC got fired and replaced.

It's like Ford was in the game with the Mustangs development but gave up in the third quarter or halftime since they had enough points to win the game.

hy·per·bo·le
hīˈpərbəlē/
noun

noun: hyperbole; plural noun: hyperboles

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.

@ScottsGT: so you're saying the various issues of your mass produced globally sold super successful-brand-pony-car are being addressed to the point of canning heads of QC?

that's what good companies do. if you want perfect you won't find it in this life.

Was your defense of your initial claim also hyperbole? Backpedal much?

Anyways, moving on. These Ford tools are most certainly Chinese/Taiwanese in origin, and look like the same cheap stuff that is sold in blister packs all over the place.

Probably decent enough quality, but nothing special, and even my love of Ford isn't going to get me to buy them. :(

Though, if the ratchets themselves didn't have the lame soft-grip nonsense on them, I might have bought a set of those...

Just a dog and pony show. Fix the turds you already sold. Granted, some of my issues are extremely minor compared to things like the vibration issues some are experiencing. But firing one guy vs. repairing major issues for loyal customers in not even a drop in the bucket.

true, those are different and it could be a farce or it could be a corrective measure to ensure it doesn't happen again. I've had a couple cosmetic issues with my truck (misaligned fender and a weird rough spot in the clearcoat on the cab) but these things are going to happen and so far ford has bent over backwards to take care of me and I'm the first to call out absolute garbage workmanship as I have done with the fender fitment on my truck.

brand loyalty says "whatever you do is good" and that is stupid.
I think they're the best so I hold them to a very high standard and expect proper workmanship.

Oh and I think the paint is too soft and the F150 needs a torsen diff because my twin turbo truck roasts tires at part throttle but, again, if you want perfect go see Jesus anything beyond that is asking too much.

Yup. Gave up on having them do anything about my S197's hood rot (they denied the claim multiple times under their laughable corrosion warranty) and bought a Cervini fiberglass hood. Problem solved. The old hood is in my warm dry basement and continues to corrode.

what was the reason for denying your warranty claim?
