^ "drama" is the reason I don't give people any information on any of the "free" ads I run on Craigslist (which I would have done today if it hadn't rained.)
they get:
"it's on the CURB, on South Beech Street, between West 38th and West 39th, on the north side of the street, under the light pole."
no name. no phone number, no email address.
no emails. no texts. no phone calls.

otherwise they will waste your entire day with their lame-*** excuses and all you wanted to do was get rid of some **** instead of tossing it into the trash.

my FIRST experience with Craigslist was a woman who jacked me around for TWO DAYS on a box of partially-full bottles of cleaning chemicals I ended up with after helping on a moving project. (customer didn't want to leave the stuff in a storage locker.)
"Can you hold it until 2:00 o'clock?"
"Oh, my husband is working late and won't be home until 5:00 and I can come then. Can you hold it?"
"Oh, the car doesn't have enough gas in it to drive that far and the bank doesn't open until the morning. Can you hold it?"

I am NOT making this up. I still find it hard to believe I allowed somebody to jerk me around that long. o_O

Do you have a place you can leave items like that without giving away your actual home location? And without getting in trouble for illegal dumping?

I've often thought about putting stuff out as a curb alert, but don't want to make my house a target for unwelcome visitors.

There's a spot at the end of our street where people have occasionally left things, but I don't know if that's really allowed. And, I'd be concerned about attracting attention to all of the houses in our neighborhood.

^ If you aren't subject to terms of some "homeowners association" policy and you don't have local municipal ordinances prohibiting it, it's fine. I see "free" ads for stuff like that all the time:
"free lawnmower corner of SW 45th & Fauntleroy on curb"
No name. No phone number. You can send an email to the craigslist anonymous email link, but that doesn't necessarily mean the person who posted the ad is going to answer, and you're not going to know their email addy.
I unload all kinds of stuff for other people (immediate family members, mostly) who are unable to do this because they're subject to HOA rules or local ordinances prohibit putting junk out on the curb.

My younger sister (over on Fox Island) doesn't even post ads. She just hauls the stuff up to a wide spot in the road (about 50 yards from her own driveway) and drops it. It all disappears in a few days.

I think this practice varies wildly depending upon your location. I also think demographics has a great deal to do with it - the Seattle-Tacoma "free" Craigslist listings (from my observations) have far more to offer than in other areas I've checked. Might have something to do with a lot of transient population. (?)

AH! Good ol' Craigslist. It used to be filled with exciting stuff. After the lock-down, CL seems to have lost the lure. I spent an hour yesterday and nearly fell asleep. Is anyone else finding their CL slowing to a whisper?

lately it's been file cabinets. every. single. day. file cabinets. how many you want? short ones? tall ones? long flat ones?
looks like every office in the Puget Sound basin is going paperless.

funny how that works.

a few years ago it was oak "entertainment centers". every day. at least three or four of them. every. single. day. can't give 'em away.
used office furniture even worse - can't give it away. nobody needs a "desk" anymore - they're all using "tablets" or laptops.

Craigslist is here to stay.

CL is pretty good here too, for free stuff as well as sales.

My grandparents had the best place for getting rid of stuff, as they were on the corner of a very busy street in a pretty dense city. Literally anything they put out onto the side street sidewalk vanished, typically within hours. When we cleaned out that basement, I met a scrapper who spotted us as we were working.

Of course, that's different (to me) than inviting the world to a neighborhood that's otherwise pretty much buried in the woods.
