This looks like a decent Craftsman table saw for $100 I don't think I've ever saw one quite like this it said to have a 32 by 34 tabletop looking at the picture I would say the 34 is 34 deep I thought 27 was pretty much a standard depth on a table saw looks like it's pretty well made.

That looks to have been manufactured by Walker Turner. One of the finest for its size. A steal at $100 or less...

Please someone in MA go buy this beautiful Prentiss #95 5.5" (?) jaw vise for $65 and give it a good home. I'm not sure if it was supposed to have a swivel base or not, but it deserves better than to be covered in surface rust.

While that could be a great deal for someone (100 lb vise = $0.65/lb) but keep in mind that vise is suppose have a swivel base which is missing. See pic below of vintage advertisement.

Does that vise have a base or is it of the older variety that has the big round plate and a big fancy "thumbscrew" to tighten up the swivel from underneath? I don't see a hole to mount a base. :dunno:

Shift,

That's a valid question as the ad only shows the left side of the vise but this vise model has the typical swivel base but with only one tightening bolt on the right side and none on the left side. If you look at the pic my post above above of the old ad, it's the vise on the bottom right.

I suppose there is only a tiny chance of finding a base to make that vise complete. Other than the missing base, it looks to be in pretty good shape. If it was for sale near me, I might still have to pick it up. I love the shape of those Prentiss Bulldogs.

Shift,

Finding the right swivel base is doable but they are not common especially in this vises size. You may be able to use a base from another manufacturer if the holes line up. Measure the outside circumference and the circumference of the swivel bolt to find one that matches. If it was a 4" jaw then finding a swivel bases is fairly easy but a 5 1/2" is a lot less common.

You could easily bolt it to your table if you have access to underneath but that eliminates swiveling but at least you'll have a good working vise so it's better than nothing while searching for a swivel base. Besides how often do people actually swivel there very large 100 lb vises? I rarely ever do. I like knowing that I have that option but in reality I don't need it. Hope this helps

You are correct on all counts. Since I already have a 5 inch bullet, a 5 1/2 inch Columbian, and a 6 inch Parker, I certainly don't NEED another large size vise. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't pick up that Prentiss if it was closer. Being in CA yourself, you know it's a LONG drive to MA. I know, I did it last Spring. I didn't dare stomp around in Joe's territory though, so I kept a low profile!

Although, as you guys stated, the vise will be useless until a base is found.

Great day today with this old HUOT Machinist toolbox and 3M roll cart loaded with USA made tools (mostly SK wrenches, but some others, PROTO, Snap-on, Williams, etc. Best thing about it was a small cache of vintage bayonets and hunting knifes!!!!

Here's most of the wrenches (99% USA Made):

Knifes along are worth 4x what I paid for everything :)

Industrial sand blast cabinet complete with dust collector 36" wide x 46" deep x 64" tall to the top of dust collector. Cabinet opening on left side is 22" wide x 18.5" tall x 36" deep. Looking glass is cracked but still works and the gloves are okay but could use new ones. This in a good heavy duty cabinet, not a cheap Harbor Freight unit asking $600 Thanks

looks to be a good deal if someone is in the market for a large ready to go sandblaster with collector.

This one isn't going for $100, but rather $400, but it's a very good condition / light use (per the description) compressor with a couple of cooling fins knocked off and as a result purchased at a discount from Home Depot. Owner says the fins are no issue, you can decide for yourself. Also included: 75 ft hose and water trap.

Price reduced, they are now only $100 for the pair.

These are actually nice for a bench top. Just bolt it to a thick steel slab, these have a rack & pinion crank to raise and lower the head. Add a chuck with a MT3 arbor and Bobs your uncle.

Even better if you add a VFD.

Wow, do those have potential....they must weigh a ton and I'd think you'd need to be extra careful when moving/setting them up so they don't tip over given their base is so small.

Even if you DON'T live in earthquake country like I do, I wouldn't think about putting those up on my workbench without having a drill and a few bolts ready to install.
A buddy had an unsecured floor standing drill press next to his trophy winning '63 Galaxie convertible when a big earthquake hit. I won't go into all the details, but it was ugly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought VFD speed controls only worked with 3 phase motors.

I will say this is not a project for the meek. I would use a 1" flat steel slab bolted to a 36" tall Lista cabinet (drawers full). The four holes properly drilled to accept the drill base and going into the Lista or something equivalent. Alternately you can mount this to an existing floor base if you had one. Just swap columns and keep the rack & pinion. Being able to quickly move head up and down is a really nice option versus moving the table. The drill press is well balanced front to back because of the arbor/motor and center column. Side to side is not much of a concern. You'll find the set up above more stable in a earthquake than a floor base set up.

Yes VFD's are for 3 phase motors but usually you can find good used industrial 3 phase motor's for pennies compared to 1 phase motors which helps offset the cost of the VFD. No more changing belts and you can dial in whatever speed you want for the ultimate Gucci variable speed drill press or anything else for that matter.

Look for Teco VFD's.

Thanks for your knowledgable input, macgee
I recently found a Craftsman 100 bench mount drill press but am still waiting for delivery from out of state.
I plan to bolt it to my wooden workbench. No steel plate
My workbench is a layer of 2x12s covered with a sheet of 1/4 inch tempered hardboard. It's framed up with 2x4s with a 2x4 ledger lag screwed to wall studs. The front edge sits on 4x4 wooden posts.

I will continue to be on the lookout for a one horsepower +/- 3 phase motor.

Not sure if this is a scorcher, but a 4 1/2" Woden Vise for $75 near Santa Rosa CA. If you know how to use electolysis, dunking this in a bucket and letting it sit for a day will likely work wonders.

Ad says "Hardly used but sat in a carport for most of its lifetime", which is a good thing-- neglected vises can be restored pretty easily, abused ones it's much tougher.

Yeah, I noticed that one in our "backyard" (kinda) when it was priced at $125.
With the new price it is of course even more attractive. But if you look closely, there appears to be some significant damage to the jaw towers/ supports in more than one place.
Why don't you take a drive up to the country this weekend, check it out and try to pick it up for $40 or $50?
Right now I'm in L.A. so I can't make the run.

Hmm, good eye on the chip on the dynamic jaw, I didn't see it. I don't *think* it's a big deal but a bargaining 'chip' regardless.

As for me, Rohnert Park is a bit far to travel, plus I already have a Woden; they're nice but if I get another one I'll never hear the end of it!

Not cheap at the current asking price of $200 but thought maybe one of you in the southern CA area (Long Beach) looking for one of these might want to keep an eye on it. If it stays listed for a while, seller may take an offer of much less. From the photos, it looks to be in pretty good condition. These were made in 1942 for only 6 months so I don’t think there are that many of them around.

From ad: “Sears Craftsman drill press all original in the 40s serial number# 103.0305 Run smooth. Table is clean as well never been touched by drillbit.”

Nice find, C'man !
BTW, did you make the deadline cleaning up that rusty one with all the history from Oregon you were working on recently?
I don't have a Mohawk model, but here is a sideways pic of my "100"
