Yeah...it looks nice but can't see paying a ton of money on shop stools. Here is what I have.

I agree looks like a good design to fab myself. And put my own twist on it for my own interests. Namely save some dough.
Although for most, that can't build one, It's not that bad of a price considering all that does go into it. By the the time you source some of the items it will still cost you a bit.

I bought this off the MAC truck. It is made in Ohio and seems to be well made. Was about $165.00. I really like it. It will probably outlast me, I’m a weekend warrior. IMG_0625.jpg

I have this exact same one but of the Snap-on flavor. I can't complain as it has lasted nearly 20 years and only had to replace the casters a couple of times. I use mine mainly at the welding/fabrication table when TIG welding.

I really like the OP's adjustable stool. If I ever have that kind of money kicking around I could get behind one of those.

I've been looking for a seat myself and this came across on the OG site... I looked into Eidos chairs as well, marketed towards aerospace, made in the US. The model 106 has a hydraulic cylinder and similar specs to Vyper (the base is more compact) its ~$400 + shipping.

I won this in a drawing at my local Advance Auto a couple years ago. I think they retail for around $40. I don't have much use for it since I have a lift but it was free.

I'd never spend hundreds of dollars for a roller seat but I'm not telling anyone else how to spend their money. The one the OP posted does look really nice.
I use mine more for wiring outlets than I do in the shop!

I have a nice vintage lab stool from Penn State, but I'd really love to get a yellow Cosco stepstool chair like the one that was in my grandfather's kitchen. IDK how I didn't think to get it when the estate was settled.

I steel a brown one of these out of the wife's kitchen when I need a stool in the garage ;)
Think she picked it up at a thrift store.

OP, how has the stool being holding up to use? Still pleased with purchase?

It's still mint and still glad I bought it. They've also come out with a slightly different model that is a little less pricey as well. It doesn't have the acme screw height adjustment, so its a static height, but still the same quality

I’ll be buying one later when shop is under control and I’m back to work. I also did a quick calcs on building one, but it Don’t make sense.

Heres my logic to spending that much-

My shop is basically all I do,

How much does golf cost to play each year?, buy and ride a bike, boat, etc etc. Hang out in a bar regularly?

Once I build my new weld table and another general purpose bench, I’ll likely get the elevated model. At my age, a good comfy and supportive stool is like a good pair of boots.

I am already buying Festool machines. It took a bit of mental adjustment. Once you have tasted exquisite quality it is hard going back to stuff that is marginal.
Who knew that something as simple as a shopstool could be executed so well.
I have been wanting the MFH 1000 but am unsure if it would work good for rolling around my driveway washing cars. But I too am addicted to Festool and can’t imagine using anything else.

I also first saw this on OG. Definitely like the chair without a back but I also thought Matt was going to get one with a slightly smaller base. I need to check again. I have the Kranzle K1322, buckets, and all the packages. It’s nice having quality stuff to wash my cars.

I can’t imagine the static height is as nice as being able to adjust for comfort. Thanks for sharing your experience! I think I’m going to order one now - but I’ll prolly get the OG one to match my other garage gear.

I got the $20 HF square platform, non adjustable. Works for me.
My post lift goes up an down... I have it marked where to stop for rolly chair use.
I did reline the seat with 2 layers of the closed cell foam, puzzle type, lock together standing mat to keep the **** happy. Took 20min to re-pad the seat to be comfy.
After 15 years it could use some upgraded rollers.

Damn it. Some posts are just kinda mean. Not sure if I want to thanks you or smack you, but the timing is auspicious. My crappy shop stool broke yesterday and my mad money account is pretty full as I just sold a few of my Lie Nielsen Planes. I bought the elevated, black seat, red frame, black wheels and I can’t believe I have done it. I think I should smack you, but thanks!

I have a couple office chairs that I rescued from the curb on clean up week. Al I have been using for years. When they start getting nasty I just look for more during clean up week. I have spare in the attic with a lovely floral pattern in the cloth!

You'll be happy with the purchase once you put it together

Wanted to revive this thread as I am close to throwing down on a Vyper. Cryptic and any other owners or users any regrets or dislikes on these stools? I guess a back rest is kind on an individual thing but anyone regret getting or not getting a back rest?

I’ve had mine since the end of August and it is a terrific perch. Still feel kinda silly spending the money on it. I’m thinking of adding the fixed feet. One thing you have to be careful of on this thing is that it rolls freely. You have to be careful when getting onto it that it is actually there;) Probably wouldn’t be as much of an issue on a shorter stool but I run mine at the highest position as shown. The lower free roller would be a fabulous piece if doing body work and brake work on the vehicles. Yes, it is a pile of dough, but the value is there. With these folks you do get what you pay for.

Got mine ordered it is the Robust Steel Max with backrest, It was on sale $100 off (allegedly) and I found a $25.00 discount code so it was $500 all in. I don't mind paying for quality products and like the saying goes "I am not rich enough to buy cheap stuff" I like to cost avg. items so over a 5 year period it will cost me $8.33 a month. I can justify that.

What color combo did you get? That's the chair I'm looking at. Thanks, and hope you enjoy your new chair!

I went all black was looking at the gray as well but my toolboxes are green my Vacumaid vac is yellow so didn't want to many colors going on. I figured the Black would not show as much dirt and grime not that I see that as being a issue. I used code "Alex" for the extra $25.00 discount.

A neighbor was moving, I helped a bit with some things being discarded, they didn't know how to break things down to take less space in a roll-off dumpster. I climbed in there with my Craftsman C3 cordless Li-ion recip saw and made a lot more-room.

They had a set of garage shelves in stamped steel, moderate duty, and a traditional wood stool, like for a bar, I took that, and a shorter, wide stool I'll take to my friend's shop to donate, they can always use one, as sometimes the ones they have, break.

I did buy one of the round HFT pneumatic strut chairs for a car project which will probably be a year+ project. They seem to be handy, they fit the uses to which I put them, and they're inexpensive. If I got to a point where I was going to be spending months exclusively in one chair, I could see getting one of the stools discussed on-here.

That looks like a quality unit. Maybe this sounds strange, but I've never had a desire for a really comfortable stool in the shop. Afraid If I did I might use it. Seems like I never have enough time to get everything done without being tempted by the shop equivalent of a Lazy Boy recliner. I do have a low back stool from Northern Tool that a neighbor gave me as a gift, but I seldom use it; it spends 99% of the time under my rolling worktable.

I almost bought the Robust steel max at the end of August, They were $399 -$50 discount, plus $28 shipping. $377 to my door. :D
Thought I'd wait to see if the had any Labor day deals.
Nope, On Labor day they raised the price to $599 with free shipping.
I see they have a $100 off, $499 to my door.
I'm going to wait till black Friday... LOL

Nope shipping is $28.00 but with the discount code it is essentially free shipping.
