and frank is usually a better guy than that..............seems everyones labia is swollen the last few days...........
Well put. I confess I may be the lunatic fringe on this issue. Where is that 'tard icon?
And no offense taken by those who disagree about wheel brushing...it's not a discussion if everyone agrees.
I want to correct a false dichotomy I see a lot on GJ...one can be both a tool user and tool collector...
I use my collectables regularly. They are all used already, so why not use them some more. But I admit to taking
a great deal of pleasure from what the tools look like, and from tools in good condition.
Another fallacy you see is that wire brushing is the only (or best) way to get rid of rust. We have better options.
As "Dude Lebowski" would say, "New sh*t has come to light."

My Philosophy of Excellent Tools (which is what I use to justify the expense of expensive tools to my wife...
with mixed results) is that I will enjoy the work more, and do a better job, if I am using tools I love.
Do a job with tools you don't care about, and tools you do, and you'll notice a big difference in the quality of the job.
At least I do.
I love that movie

Second, Nissan is right, I am resentful about someone wire brushing several of my tools. Very insightful. That person was ME (years ago). I wish I hadn't. Irritates me every time I pick them up and use them.

sure, why not?

back to the thread..........would you wire wheel this?

May I offer an apology to Bolster for the language I used in my post. No real excuse but I was having problems when I came across your post. I do disagree with your opinion but I could, and should, have taken time out before bashing out my posts.
Oops, am I being elitist again. I use a fine brass wire brush on my non chrome old tools, works good. On my chrome tools, I use a buffer, can restore a tool to almost new looking. I also use the elect. process on very rusty tools. Alloy artifacts uses the elect process, then he finishes them with ext. fine foam backed sandpaper.
Stand back fellers, I am tired of efin around with the wire wheels, I am gonna bead blast them...................To quote Flounder from Animal House "This is gonna be great!" ..........................RAMMING SPEED!..........![]()
Hi Frank, I did not catch your post until just now. No hard feelings, mate! If you're ever in LA, I'll take you to the local beach brewery where they have 80 different beers on tap and we will regale each other with tool stories, and discuss the sorry state of American beer.![]()
man I am bummed. BTW: You know all this wheel vs stuff is fun to me, don't you? Oh man! ....................................where's the love? I thought sure you would get a kick out of my last post.............nuthinman I am bummed. BTW: You know all this wheel vs stuff is fun to me, don't you?

Well Buck even a fool can see you are just persecuting me for fun! It's called "Bolster Baiting" and I think it is illegal in most states!
EDIT: Again, that's BOLSTER baiting. Not the other kind of -bating.

Notice how it oddly reflects light in a non-uniform manner, has a shiny mottled appearance, and how the areas that weren't reached by the brush are still very dark, where as high points are super bright and now have accelerated wear. Wire'd tools often have edges that are too shiny where the wheel started to heat/remove steel.

oh sh*t
this thread just embarrasses me... makes me want to start apologising all over again.
