Great looking car. Did you sell the raptor?

Thanks, man! Nice to be FB friends with you, as well!

The buyers payment has cleared for the Raptor with the bank I was financing it through. So now we wait for the title/paperwork to arrive at my house before I forward it onto the buyer. So it's all but sold, but still in my driveway until the above happens.

Now, I can begin my search for an E46 M3!

Why did you sell it if you don't mind me asking. I have been tossing around the idea of selling my Jeep to get one.

Don't mind you asking at all. I think it really boils down to a few different things:

1) I'm not a truck guy, at least, not for a daily driver

2) I miss driving stick

3) I miss being in a car

If I could keep the Raptor AND get an E46 M3, then I would totally do that. But for the price of the Raptor, I can get a new daily (the Accord) and should still be able to pick up a well sorted E46 M3 and have some play money left over.

Because I wasn't using the truck the way it was intended (we don't exactly have deserts here on the East Coast), I found it to be overkill and got bored with it. Sure, I knew all that going in, but I still convinced myself that I would get enough out of it to justify the purchase. In the end, after about a year of ownership, I wasn't.

It made more sense for me to go back to my roots, that is, BMW and Honda. I've owned multiples of each.

I'll miss the interior space and comfort during long drives/road trips, sure. But having recently lost a close family friend, it really brought some perspective. And not to get too deep or anything, but we really aren't promised tomorrow and I would rather not have any regrets. I'm glad I bought the Raptor, it was a tick off the bucket list. Who knows, I may own another one down the road. But for right here and right now, I needed something different!

Wow, that turned into a longer response than I figured. Ha!

Interesting new daily but makes very practical sense. I find Honda's styling odd these days but as for a great car they make sense. E46 M...make sure you get a PPI at reputable BMW shop.

Edit: Now you can put up your pictures again soon.

I get it about not being a truck guy, I would almost need to borrow a raptor for a few weeks to see if I want to keep it. Anyways...............GET STARTED ON THOSE CABINETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol_hitti

Ha, that would definitely be ideal!

And yes, unfortunately for me, the timing of the delivery couldn’t have been worse. Day before thanksgiving. And Friday, we are driving up to see my sister (they live about an hour and 40 min north of us), so I won’t have a ton of time tomorrow, either. And this weekend, I’m going to check out a few M3’s. Hopefully I can find time to get everything wall mounted and start putting all my detailing supplies and tools into their permanent homes.

I did have a little time yesterday to do some unboxing and mock up where I will be mounting the lower cabinets:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! [emoji884]

Agreed, the Civic is a prime example. It’s styling is unique, for sure. But I think the new Accord is the best looking Accord they’ve ever produced.

My goal is definitely to get a PPI. And if I didn’t already want an M3 bad enough, I test drove one yesterday and man oh man do I need one now! [emoji56]

I like watching cars getting wrenched on, while watching how a garage comes to life. And... I'm a bit of a BMW and S54 fanboy lol :)

Ha, ok then, fair enough!

Hopefully you see me wrenching on an S54 sooner rather than later. [emoji482]

Congrats on the new ride! I severely miss having a 3rd pedal as well. Glad to see you are no longer without!

I see the cabinets are in as well. Mock up looks great so far. I'm sure you're eager to get them permanently up and filled with all your stuff

Well the only new ride thus far is the Accord, but that’s automatic (aka wife-friendly). The eventual M3, however, will most definitely be manual! [emoji1303]

In the little free time I have with two young kiddos, I managed to get the lowers in place. Will need help from my wife to get the uppers installed, hopefully tomorrow.

And like you said, I’m very anxious to get everything installed and get all my tools/detailing supplies and equipment/etc. stored. Can’t wait to see how much room it all takes up and how much I’ll have left over for more stuff! [emoji1303]

Here are a few progress shots from earlier today, finished off with where it’s at now:

Dude that's not enough cabinets to cover the wall! I guess you could always buy more, I don't mind.

Thanks again for supporting small business.

John

Haha, no way was I covering that entire back wall. [emoji23] I want wall space for potential stainless steel shelving and some other ideas I have.

Thanks for the deal!

Took advantage of Black Friday pricing and ordered a 50” Toshiba 4K HDR tv and a 36” Monoprice 2.1 sound bar to mount smack dab in the center of my cabinet setup. Can’t wait to take the next step in getting my garage that much closer to my dream/goal.

Next year, Swiss Trax!!

Hmm, some bug screens for your doors would make it great for relaxation time in summer.

NO SMG !! Just don't do it.

What I am surprised at is Honda went away from their traditional 1.6L sized engine. I have not read up on engine specs. I might pick up an 05 X3 in next week or so. Need a winter ride.

Ah gotcha, sorry, I think I got confused with the discussion between the 2 cars. The cabinets starting to go up look great though! And the TV will be great out there. What are you going to run to it for a video source? I've been tossing the idea around of putting one out in the garage as well, but I don't really feel like paying for another cable box for the minimum use it will get, so I thought about maybe just throwing a firestick or similar on it.

No worries!!

We cut the cord earlier this year, and the tv I purchased is a Smart tv, so I’ll be able to use the apps I normally use now, YouTube, netflix, etc. I may opt for a fire stick at some point so I can access PS Vue, which we use as our main “cable” source these days.

Yes sir.

No way, 6MT or bust for me.

The 1.5T isn’t bad, to be honest. A little turbo lag in eco mode, but has a little pep in its step in Sport mode. Besides, for my daily driver, it’s perfectly suited for that role.

Forgot to post this the other day, but the cabinets are finally in place:

Sound bar arrived Sunday, TV mount should be here tomorrow and the TV should be here either tomorrow or Thursday, so I hope to finalize my entire setup here by the weekend.

Those look great. I might need to start looking at a cabinet array.

Thanks, man! I'm very happy with them. For the money, I think they are exactly what I needed. Can you spend way more money for better cabinets? Sure. But for the weekend warrior such as myself, they're perfect!

That said, I guess the only true test will be time.

Also, looks like the TV is actually arriving today, as did the TV mount. So that will either go up tonight or tomorrow morning...

TV and sound bar hung (excuse the janky power strip setup..it's temporary). I'm debating on moving them both up so that the bottom of the TV lines up with the bottom of the upper cabinets. But I may give it a few weeks and try it out the way it is before deciding.

Nice! And yes, I would definitely align the bottom of the TV (or the bottom of the soundbar) with the bottom of the cabinets.
It's turning out beautiful, congrats!

Thanks! And yes, my OCD will most likely get the best of me and I'll most likely end up moving it. But I'm going to let it marinate for a bit before deciding. Moving it ultimately means holes to fill, sanding, and repainting. Sigh.

Non-garage related update: The Raptor is officially gone. Took a while for the title to come in after my loan was paid off, so the buyer of the truck was only just able to register/insure the truck and pick it up Friday night. Granted, we were at the ER with our 10 month old (****** week of ER visits and urgent care visits, all around), so I left the keys in the truck and gave him the code to unlock the doors via the keypad. Here she is driving off:

Damn, the cabinets really look great all set up, especially with the TV in as well. Love it. Is the sound bar going to be the sole audio source out there?

Farewell to the truck as well. Hope all is well with your little one though.... as a dad to a 21 month old, I get a pit in my stomach whenever I hear about trips to the ER with little kids.

Thank you! I can't wait to get the power strips mounted alongside the tall cabinets for a clean, flush look. I have one so far, and ordered a 2nd via Amazon Prime, so that'll be here Wednesday. I just want this 100% done sooner rather than later, but the hole saw kit I purchased yesterday from Harbor Freight lasted all of 3 cuts before the lead bit got jacked up and bent, rendering it useless. So it'll be a few more days, but I'll post a completed picture of my setup once it's truly done.

As for audio, yeah, the sound bar goes quite loud and fills the garage very well. So I don't envision needing anything else out there, for the time being, anyway.

And thanks, it was a really tough, trying week. My wife and I both had strep throat, my 3 yr old (who ended up being the healthiest one, actually) had a double ear infection, and my youngest needed two ER trips for some virus he fighting, causing him to spike fevers over 105. It was scary! But he's better now, as are the wife and I. I hope we never have another week like that again. It was brutal.

Here's to happier and healthier days moving forward!!

Side note, I've got my eyes on a 2005 Silbergrau (silver grey) E46 M3, with imola red interior, located in Winnebago,IL. The PPI is scheduled for this Sunday and as long as nothing earth shattering pops up, there's a good chance I'll be buying that and having it shipped to MA. But since the last M3 I had my eyes on fell through due to some last minute issues, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.

I guess what I'm saying is, wish me luck!

Glad to hear everyone is feeling healthier, ER visits are never fun especially with young ones. Good luck with the E46 hunt, there are still a few good ones out there.

What do you think of the Ring system? How is the image quality from what you have access to? Could you make out a license plate on a car at the edge of your driveway? I have been hearing that Ring setups are getting more popular than home DVR based security systems as they are easier to upgrade and roll out new functionality. Just wondering if you lose anything.

Thank you, 4runner, on all counts! Glad it's all in the past, for sure!

And yes, there are. You gotta weed through all the **** that young kids have got their hands on, but they're out there. I'm a little nervous potentially buying a car sight unseen, but that's what the PPI is for. And the seller has been great at supplying photos and walk around videos of the car. I'm pretty confident!

I love the Ring system! I've got the Video Doorbell 2 installed, as well as 2 of the wired spotlight cameras. One showing my backyard and the one you see above, showing my driveway/front yard. And being able to go back and view recordings either on my phone or from a computer is very helpful! I get notifications when motion is detected and can view it immediately via my phone.

I could probably make out a license plate from that distance during the day. At night, it could get a little tricky, but as you can see from the photos, the night vision coupled with the LED spotlight does paint a pretty solid picture. I would highly recommend Ring to anyone.

Once my contract with Frontpoint security runs out, I'm planning on switching over to the fairly new Ring security system, so that my cameras and system are all working together. Just makes more sense!

Well I was hoping to get this all squared away much sooner, but the holidays sort of took over and, well, here we are. Picked up a cord management kit from Home Depot, painted it to blend in better with the walls and finally got the cords hidden earlier today:

So I guess I can now consider Phase 1 of dialing in my garage as complete. Next year's big upgrade will be Swisstrax flooring, as part of Phase 2. Can't wait!

Car update:

Still on the hunt for an E46 M3. The PPI I had performed for one I found in IL identified a bunch of items that the seller is now intending to address/fix before selling. So while that car is still a possibility, I will continue to search and see what else hits the market.

Happy New Year, folks!

Some new toys which should help making winter washing a little more bearable:

Guess I can find new uses for my orange Home Depot buckets now that I have a legit bucket setup, finally! Glad that locking casters are included, as my driveway is fairly steep.

I've never used a propane heater like this, but this specific model had great reviews and based on the specs, should be more than capable in heating my garage. Anyone have any experience with propane heaters?

I love having the buckets on rollers. Its one of those things you thing is silly until you try it and then you wonder how you lived without it.

I have a similar torpedo heater. I tend to crack the garage door 4" and then run the heater until the temp is mid-50's. Then I shut it off, close the door and start working. Very minimal fumes and only when there's no wind.

That's what I'm thinking and hoping. Looking forward to putting it to use!
