That E46 is awesome. Nice cabinet choice too. I have the same ones....

 Thank you, I think it's awesome, too! :shocking:

I'm beyond happy with my cabinet setup. I still need to organize the final layout of where everything will reside in the cabinets/drawers, but I'm getting there!

I've only owned one BMW (euro-spec 733i) and as much as I loved driving and working on it, the cost of repair parts killed me.

I don't post often but I check in every time your thread pops up on my subscribed list. Post about what you love and we'll be fine.

Glad to hear it and thanks for the support!

Same here! I get emails for every thread I'm suscribed, and I haven't even commented once on some of them. But I do read and enjoying almost every thread on this forum!
It's true that OP's can lose interest in sharing, if there's no feedback, but I feel a bit ashamed to just say "Good work" and not have anything constructive or helpful to reply!

Sorry, enough OT, just wanted to agree on the "always read, not always reply" thing

Totally understand where you're coming from and I agree. Thank you, as well!!

Here are a bunch of misc. car parts/fluids that need to get done in the short-term:

40619769403_9ef6169bab_c.jpg

Love the M3!! Is the 3M stuff for the rear quarter panel weather stripping? Mine is shot on my car and I've been putting the repair off. Finally finished up with a full vanos refresh and hub replacement (broken tab) so I'm hoping to get to it soon. Keep the updates coming!

I enjoy this thread. I like how organized and clean everything looks, and I think the TV is perfect where it's at. I'll probably never own a BMW but I enjoy looking at pictures of them on this site, there seems to be lots of them.

Good work!

Thanks, man!! And yep, that's exactly what that's for. Hoping to take an upcoming weekend to bang out both rear quarters. Also pictured somewhere in that mess is a replacement lower gasket/railing for the rear driver-side quarter panel.

I see you don't have any threads here on GJ, so do you have any threads for your car perhaps on a BMW-specific forum? I'd like to check it out, if so.

And you got it, more updates coming soon!

Thanks, Pat! I'm liking the TV where it's at, as well. I thought I'd end up wanting to raise it a bit, but so far, I don't think that'll be the case.

Haha, you're welcome! I was a LEGO freak when I was a kid, and now that my oldest (3.5 years) is really getting into them, I can use him as an excuse to start buying some bigger sets! :bounce:

Glad to hear it! Yeah I've been mostly I lurker since I've joined. Just trying to get a bunch of ideas for my upcoming garage revamp which should hopefully start sometime this year. We purchased our house last year and with other projects and 2 little ones its been difficult to find the time until recently. I'm over on m3forum.net as 02blueru but don't have a build journal. I'm planning on incorporating some of my M3 refresh stuff into my garage build.

Your build has provided me with a lot of great ideas so I'm pretty excited to get started.

Ha, that's been me on m3forum.net. Lurking and getting valuable info, but not really posting anything. My username over there is sidepc (what I wanted as my vanity plate, but MA DMV denied that request).

Sounds like we're in similar boats, with 2 young kids each and having somewhat recently moved into our homes.

And it's great to be able to pass on ideas, as I was in your shoes a few years ago. Looking up others ideas and drawing from them on what I liked and what I didn't and I'm very happy with my garage, as is. But she ain't done yet!

Improved the security in my garage by adding a Ring Stick Up camera, to work in conjunction with the 3 Ring cameras already in place (Back yard, Front yard and Front door). To eliminate visible wires, I went with a battery-powered Stick Up cam and installed it in a fairly easy to reach place to make removing/recharging the battery that much easier.

No wires... That makes me happy :D

Ha, I'm with you, there! I wish I had a better solution for the Ring camera in my backyard, as I had to run the wire over my faux "french door" to get to the outlet. I will probably use some 3M command hooks and/or double-sided tape to ensure the wire doesn't sag as it does from time to time. So while far from perfect, it works.

I don't think I have any photos to show of that, so I'll try and get some tomorrow. I was probably too embarrassed to show my shoddy work. :shocking:

Might want to change oil sooner to prevent the varnishing that's happening. Or use a good synthetic.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the previous owner went the full 15,000 miles (or longer) before changes. I try to change it annually or at 7,500.

Good call! I've never had a "weekend" car before, but my plan is to change it annually, or at 5k miles.

Seeing how Tuesday's weather was very favorable (sunny, 60 degrees), I took the M3 to work. And since I was wearing my Dialed Watch Co., I had to take advantage of the photo op:

32691087407_ed587d6165_c.jpg

I may pick up the "Forty-Six" style watch at some point, since it more closely matches my car:

https://dialedwatchco.com/products/forty-six-stainless-case

During my lunch break, I took a spirited drive through some local back roads and watched as my car hit the 100k mark:

Yesterday, I replaced the fuel door spring clip as I was sick of seeing the door not fully closed.

The new tires I ordered also showed up. Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's, 225/40/19 front and 255/35/19 rear. I realize there are lots of haters when it comes to Hankook (and other "non-Michelin" brands), but I've had these tires on past cars and I think they're fantastic. Especially for my needs and at their price point, I just couldn't justify spending more on the Pilot Sports, when I'm not tracking my car (yet):

Recently, my analog clock-style thermometer had fallen and broken into many pieces, so I took this opportunity to upgrade to something that is a bit more my style and better fits in with the look I'm trying to achieve in my garage:

I placed the exterior sensor in the garage "side door" door frame:

Lastly, I was able to wash the car and top it with Bead Maker. It still needs a full decon/polish/detail, but I need a full weekend for that, so this will do for now:

Hankook makes some good tires. Not quite the grip or reduced sound of Michelin tires but still good tires for most driving conditions. My track tires have been Hankook for years. I like that watch face!!

My thoughts exactly! Maybe I'll go with Michelin's for my next set, who knows?!

Thanks, man! I bought it before grabbing the M3, as I was interesting in grabbing an E28 and the watch face more accurately resembles the older (late 80s-mid 90s) BMW gauges. But that E46 style watch is badass! And it's a legit watch, with very high build quality. I'm incredibly happy with it.

Nice tires!

Minor aesthetic upgrade on the M3 today, which I think makes a big difference and really cleans up the front bumper:

Ive been slow at work today and looking at e46 M3's all day. I blame this thread.

heh.. and I spent all afternoon reading this thread from the beginning. Wild ride for sure.

OP love the M3. It's beautiful. Garage is solid AF as well as the cabinets. I was once a resident Masshole too, still am, just don't live in MA anymore but you know what they say..

What in IT do you do if you don't mind me asking.. (you might've said already but I may not have read everything....)

Nice place; nice E-car. I'm not sure that I will ever muster up the nuggs to buy a modern-ish BMW, if I considered it: it would be one like yours. Very cool! By the looks of things, your wife also is into cars, or ... at least supports your love of the E-car.

And thanks for the kind words. They're much appreciated. Where in MA are you originally from?

As for work, I work for one of the biggest medical software providers in the country. Approaching 13 years (August), where I've held a variety of roles. Currently, I'm a Lead Software Tester (though my duties go far beyond simply testing...I sorta hate my title, as it's very misleading) who focuses solely on internal software used only be staff.

How about you?

Started the exhaust install on Friday. Got the rear of the car up on ramps and got to work removing the rear diffuser:

Of course not a single one of the flange bolts holding the muffler/section 3 onto the section 2 piping came out normally. They were all rusted to **** to the point that no amount of PB Blaster would be enough. So after a ton of grinding and using my dremel, I managed to get the stock muffler off:

46945383074_cf03278186_c.jpg

Since I'm doing this alone, and because the stock muffler weighs around 56 lbs, my jack came in clutch in allowing me to use it to hold up the muffler as I was removing it, and then safely lowering it down so it wouldn't fall on my skull:
46945383134_2de90c609d_c.jpg

Section 2 piping, minus one flange:
46945382314_094b6fa2ce_c.jpg

The flange was cracked to begin with, and knowing I wouldn't reuse it, I ended up cutting through it to assist with removing the muffler.

Side note: check out what happened to my wife's Jeep while driving on the highway home from work:
32730397597_aabd1b7d28_c.jpg

Something, she's not sure what, smashed a good sized hole in her moonroof. So I have a roughly 12 inch crack in my Accord's windshield and she has this huge hole in her moonroof. Not a good couple of weeks for automotive glass in my household.

That said, we're just incredibly lucky and fortunate that neither of the kids were in the Jeep, because a bunch of glass ended up on the rear seat.

Drive up to NH and use my lift next time :bounce:

Haven't popped in for a while, but the garage and cars are looking good as always! Bummer on the sunroof, but I'd almost rather that than a body panel taking the blow. Easier to repair without having to stress out about doing body work, matching paint etc...

Always good to hear from you and thank you! My cars both need a proper dialing in session, but weather hasn't been super cooperative of late.

As for the Jeep, that's definitely a fair point, for sure. But one counter point to that is we now need to get her transportation until the glass place is able to fix the sunroof. Because as it is now, she can't safely drive it. We're picking up her rental later today....a minivan. :scared:

no problem, i enjoyed it all! I grew up in Webster, south of Worcester and ate Wings over Worcester all the time (highly recommend). I'm on the other end of IT in the MSP area, I manage a small ish helpdesk now so not really specialized but it's certainly entertaining and exposes me to a wide variety of environments/infrastructures which presents their own unique challenges.

Rock on and Go Bruins!

There's a spot in Worcester that we try to hit whenever we're passing through on our way to either Six Flags or Great Wolf Lodge, The Fix. Some of the best poutine I've ever had....and I've had a LOT!

Hey if you're ever in need of help and offer up remote opportunities, feel free to look my way.

Haha! She never actually ended up with a minivan, after all. They couldn't fit one (not that she ever even asked for one, it was simply the cheapest car she saw on the Hertz website). She ended up driving a god awful Hyundai Elantra equipped with hubcaps!! I'm pretty sure the only option on the car was power windows. Just an awful, awful car. Luckily she only needed it for a few days.

She took my car to work today, while I drove the M3 to work. The Accord is getting the windshield replaced tomorrow, finally, after showing up last week to have it replaced and being told that the replacement was damaged in transit.

Her Jeep is having the sunroof replaced on Wednesday. Then, hopefully, we'll not have to deal with replacing any more auto glass for the foreseeable future.

Got the exhaust installed on the M3 early last week, but still have some minor adjusting to do in order to get the tips as level as I can. Unfortunately, and I knew this possibility existed going in, the tips do point down ever so slightly. That was the risk I ran in buying the exhaust I went with. Other M3 owners have said they were able to alleviate the pointing down of the tips by replacing the exhaust section 2 with an aftermarket option. Not sure I want to do that just yet, so I may end up paying someone to cut off the tips and weld them back on so they aim straight back.

Before I do that, however, I need to replace the passenger side exhaust hanger and potentially shim all 3 hangers a bit in order to get the exhaust to sit more level. That may also help with the angle of the tips, so we shall see.

Here are some crude, rushed photos I managed to take:

This past Saturday, I participated in the local BMW Ultimate Driving Experience. We got to autocross the new 2019 330i:

I went along with 2 buddies of mine. I had the fastest lap of the 3 of us (we're the first 3 names on the list):

40747727283_672df3608a_z.jpg

For anyone interested, here is my lap (trust me, the video doesn't do it any justice...we were moving much quicker than it appeared...oh and excuse the wind noise, it was very cold and very windy that morning):

https://vimeo.com/333098415

After the autocross event was completed, we were able to test drive a variety of vehicles on public roads with no BMW rep in the car. From the available vehicles, we really wanted to drive the M240i, but the waiting list was starting to creep up because EVERYONE wanted to drive that car. So instead of waiting, we took a BMW X6 50i (4.4L twin turbo V8 w/ 450 hp) out for a joy ride. I chose this mainly because my wife is obsessed with these and my buddies were all for it:

This thing is ridiculous. I was able to hit 102 on the highway with minimal effort in a stupidly fast amount of time. You know you're driving a powerful vehicle when you floor it while you're already at highway cruising speeds and the thing lurches back and just takes off, literally throwing your head back. Just unbelievably powerful!!

That ended up being the only one we test drove, but I did take some photos of the new X7 (mind the huge *** grille) and M850i (unreal!!):

I feel like this M3 is determined to test your OCD (and ours too lol). First with the fuel door, now with these tips. Hope the hangers help with the issue!

They do appear to point down quite a lot. Hope your able to adjust it back to level. BMW stopped down the Ultimate drive here in Houston. One of the largest cities in the country and for the last 4-5 years they haven't done any events here. Always up in Dallas or up in Austin at the F1 track. Looks like fun. I had a similar experience in a X5M a few years back. Those big turbo engines and AWD start to feel like they are breaking the laws of physics with how quickly they can accelerate at any starting speed.

Ahh, and don't you mean Webstah? :lol_hitti

B's in 7!!! Hell of a series. Now if only the Sox can get their heads out of their asses. :headscrat

heh I might be back up that way for the 4th potentially.. I'll have to check it out! I'll keep you posted about the remote opportunities.. right now we're a little too small to offer full remote but if things keep trending who knows!

Thank God the B's crushed the leafs, that was beautiful, that columbus though..

Haha, it's so true! Hanger should be in by Friday, as should the Lisle rubber support bracket removal pliers. So I'll swap out the bad hanger, shim all 3 hangers and see how level I can get the tips. Should have a better idea by this weekend if I'll need someone to weld the tips on straighter or not.

Thanks, me too! I'm very happy with the sound, so this muffler/rear section isn't going anywhere for the time being.

Same thing around here, actually. The last time BMW had their Ultimate Drive was roughly 5 or 6 years ago. And just as luck would have it, I busted my ankle playing volleyball at a cookout the day before, so I had to miss the Ultimate Drive even though I had registered for it.

I can't even imagine how nuts the X5M must have been. Not sure if there are any events near you, but I just signed up to drive EVERY car listed (all at different time slots) here:

It'll be my first experience driving any of the current M vehicles. Very much looking forward to it!

Oh, nice! Sounds good, man.

Yeah, B's may be in trouble. They were outplayed last night. My playoff beard isn't helping enough, ha!

New exhaust hanger came in a few days ago, so out came the old one from the passenger side. Here, you can see the hanger is torn in several places, which was the main reason the passenger side was hanging lower:

Exhaust is hanging better now, but still pointing down slightly. I may try and shim the driver side hangers to at least get the muffler level, but it's looking like I may need to get the tips cut off and welded back on so they point straight back:

I also swapped out the hood grill insert where the washer jets reside, as the old one was faded from 14 years of sun. Old (left) and new (right). The angle of the photo makes it looks like the new one is MUCH smaller, but I assure you, they're the exact same size:

As for house stuff, I finally addressed an eye sore that's been bugging me for well over a year now. The gas meter was starting to rust pretty badly and I wasn't having that, not with a house that just hit 3 years old. So here are some before shots:

I had some free time yesterday, which I spent on my lawn and detailing the M3 in preparation for a local Cars and Coffee tomorrow morning. I also finally cleaned up my snowblower so I could relocate it to it's summer housing in the shed and free up space in the garage. A quick rinse with the pressure washer and Bead Maker as a drying agent left it looking better than new:

Once the Flickr app on my phones catches up to the videos it's currently trying to process and upload, I'll share some photos of the M3 detailing. Car needs a paint correction, which I will probably address later in the summer, but she's looking really good! Aside from the nicks/scuffs/rock chips/swirl marks/tiny specs of rust that come with a 14 year old, 100k mile car, of course.

Very nice progress! I really like the wall mounted solution for the cabinets. I've been researching various options to replace my gladiator setup.

Since you mentioned swisstrax, I figured I'd offer my recent experience since it appears we share a similar transition lip into the garage. Mine is about .5" and found that the car tires would push the tiles as opposed to rolling on top. As a result, I was breaking tiles each time we would try and pull into the garage. My current count is 12 broken tiles but Swisstrax has been fantastic to work with on a proper fix. They also offered the best pricing, despite what other sellers say.

Thanks for the kind words!

Regarding your feedback on Swisstrax, do you have their angled edge tiles? If not, I wonder if those would alleviate the issue you're running into. If you do, then I guess I should be prepared to deal with broken tiles, haha.

This is what I'm referring to:

How often does your town do meter swapping. Ours at work had rust and looked much like yours maybe a bit worse but it was leaking. We reported they did squat about it but this year gas company came around to swap meters and their sniffer tool went off. Showed the report from 8 months ago and guess who Columbia Gas. Makes me feel safe.

The spray bead you use works phenomenal.
