:ROFLMAO: Yeah, just a little bit, right?!

And yep, it was most definitely the coil! Popped her in yesterday afternoon and the car is purring again (like a pissed off kitten)!! Took it for a quick rip around town, with a big, ****-eating grin on my face the entire time.

NGK does not make a single electrode plug? I like a single electrode better because they have more material and you can gap them versus multi electrodes that some times drop one.

Car looks fantastic, have you mounted a CSL on the 340 yet just for giggles sake?

Where’d you get the protective workbench mat?
It's actually just a Harbor Freight moving blanket. I have a bunch of them laying around so I figured why not try and preserve the stainless steel worktop as best I can.

Not entirely sure. These are the OEM plugs and I wanted to stick with them!

Thank you! Very happy with how far this car has come in the relatively short amount of time I've owned it (almost 2.5 years at this point). Haha, no, but you may have missed my update back in the winter. She has her own carbon fiber sexiness:

Nice work! Glad the new coil cleared up the issue. Easy fix.
Thanks, bud! You and me, both! I'll be ordering 5 more soon, because you sure as **** know that the others will follow suit and start crapping the bed soon enough.

No Doubt! Did you see Matt Moreman just picked up an 05 E46 also? I'm sure you'll be excited to follow along with that build of his!

I missed that. Didn't see him E46 acquisition. I'm excited watching the latest Turner Motorsports videos as they finish up last years build of an OEM looking E46 M3 with a E92 V8 engine transplant.

Where did you see that Matt grabbed an E46 M3? What am I missing?! lol

I watched the first few Turner videos on that build...need to get caught up. So many videos, so little time.

Oh, the podcasts are too long for me keep up with, especially with limited commute time as still only driving into the office 1/2 times a week. Very low mileage example.

He mentioned it on the last podcast.

Oh damn, ok then. I’m only about 1/2 way thru the podcast, so haven’t heard that yet. Watching right now with baited breath. And thanks for the the link….man that car is CLEAN!

I hear that. I listen to 2 podcasts religiously (The Smoking Tire and Everyday Driver) and with working from home full time (until next week, when I’ll start working in the office 1x week), I don’t have a ton of free time to listen to them.

I find myself catching up while mowing the lawn and weed whacking.

WE miss your updates, anything new?

Might be picking this up soon

Um, yeah, I'd say so. Lots of changes since my last entry (how the hell has it been almost 7 months?!). See next post...

Also, did you end up grabbing that E90? Looks like a clean option!

I'm in MA also and just grabbed a 2022 M340i last month! This will be my third BMW but took some time off. Glad to be back. Looking forward to your updates here.

So, yeah, not sure where to begin so I'll just go for it. I'm starting a business...specifically, an automotive dry ice cleaning shop. It's actually something I started looking into and really researching back in April, once I discovered it thanks to Obsessed Garage (I had never heard of dry ice cleaning in the automotive realm before).

Long story short, a few weeks after discovering dry ice, I joined Scott Ales Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/dryceman) and have learned so much since then. After a few months, wanting to exit "Corporate America", I made the decision to go for it (with the support of my lovely wife!!).

So I found a small business advisor, thanks to America's SBDC, wrote up a business plan and applied for financing. Got the loan approved back in the fall and have been ordering equipment and supplies while waiting for the building I'm renting a unit from to be completed (new construction).

After months of various holdups/inspections/etc., I FINALLY got the keys to my unit this past Friday night! Photos to come....

However, as part of this process, I had to make some adult decisions (don't worry, the M3 isn't going anywhere) and so I sold the M340i back to BMW of Warwick. It was a luxury to me as a daily driver and since I would soon be paying rent on the building and my business loan, I wanted to cut back on discretionary spending. So needing a new short-term daily driver, but not wanting to spend anywhere near as much as I was spending on the M340i lease, with a nudge from my neighbor/buddy, I settled on a 2006 Lexus GX470:

51722857459_f7aaac165f_c.jpg

I wanted something that I wouldn't stress over having 2 young children, but that I could also rely on and haul stuff with, if need be. It only has 112k miles, has the 3rd row jump seats, fold-down DVD player in the backseat for my boys, and everything works on it! Even the rear air suspension. It's certainly not perfect, but having learned quite a bit about these vehicles via forums and FB groups, there are some ******** GX enthusiasts out there and I'm pretty sure once I decide to move on from this vehicle, I'll be able to make my money back or damn close to it.

I don't plan on doing much to it, as I want to have as much cash available to cover my various business expenses until I can hopefully start generating some revenue (I'm keeping my day job for the time being). I've added WeatherTech mats in the front and rear, LED head and fog lights, LED interior lighting, a bluetooth module so I can stream my music/podcasts and make phone calls (2006 bluetooth isn't quite up to snuff and only allows for calling), and that's about it. But this beast does have a backup camera, so I guess there's that! ha

I miss the M340i, but I did make out pretty well when selling the car back (thank you to the screwed up market we're dealing with). But again, this is hopefully just a short-term vehicle for me and assuming the business pans out, I've already got my heart settled on a next daily driver (E90 M3). I actually almost bought a slicktop Imola with DCT prior to getting the Lexus, but the dude flaked out for a few days (claimed to have been busy after always being responsive up to that point) and needing a daily driver badly, I switched gears and opted for something even cheaper!

Back to the M3...I literally just last week ordered a new toy for her. Another Karbonius purchase:

strutbar.jpg

strutbar2.jpg

Can't wait to pair that thing with the Karbonius intake and really increase the sexiness factor of the engine bay!

OK, next post will contain more info on the business, including photos of the shop and my logo and what not. Stay tuned and glad to be back!

Wow, very cool congratulations!! Now you need to get some used car dealers signed up as customers so they can say rust free. Dry Ice cleaning is great in the world of fire restoration as well.

I did purchase it but it's sitting idle till spring.

As I alluded to earlier, I've been waiting to get into the building for months now, so Friday was a pretty monumental day in this whole process as I finally got keys to my unit:

So I actually found this place early on in the construction process sort of by accident (back in July), as I was actually looking to rent a unit in the development right next door. That unit ended up being too big and too expensive, but then I noticed construction taking place next door and contacted the builder. Now, the unit I'm renting is smaller than I was hoping for (25 x 50, 1250 sq ft....when I really wanted/needed 1800+), but I needed to make sure the dollars all worked out so this is the best I could afford for the time being. It might be cramped for a bit, but the goal is to either eventually move to a bigger location, or get two adjoining units where I'm currently at. Baby steps....

Here was the first time I laid eyes on it:

I then called the developer and made an appt a few days later to go check it out closer/in person:

I checked commercial real estate listings multiple times a day for MONTHS, only to realize there was a whole lot of overpriced garbage around me. So I had to push my search radius out little by little and this building continued to stand out. So, I stalked the hell out of it.

I had never heard of this so I went to YT and studied up. I kind of want to do the same thing now! Looks like it would be very rewarding at the end of a job.

What do you plan to do to keep all of the airborne debris from coating the entire room?

Most people I talk to have never heard of it, either, unsurprisingly. It's starting to become a bit more commonplace on social media, but even some of the ******** automotive folks will have never heard of it. I'm trying to get in on it ahead of the curve. I honestly believe in 5 or so years, it'll be as common as PDR (paintless dent removal). 5-7 years ago, most folks were unaware of PDR. Now it's quite the specialty!

For the time being/short-term, I'll deal with the mess. It won't "coat the room" per se, but will fall to the floor and any flat/horizontal surfaces. But in the longer run, I'd like to have some sort of containment in place, probably along the lines of this:

What else have I missed?! I guess some M3 updates...

Back at the end of June, I swapped out my headlight lenses for brand new OEM replacements and while it might be tough to tell from the photos, they made a huge difference in freshening up the front end:

Brought the whole family out to the 6/27/21 Audrain Cars & Coffee at the Newport Polo Grounds in Portsmouth,RI. These photos, taken from the drive in, were shared with me after the event:

To match the refinished rear deck, which I had already addressed, I gave the rear speaker covers a few coats of paint to make them look new again (using Rust-Oleum Metallic Paint & Primer in One - Satin Nickel):

A rare sight at the time...both of my cars actually clean at the same time:

Snagged this sweet (but expensive, as it came from overseas) binder to store all my service records/receipts in:

While not specific to my M3, it is somewhat BMW-related. I flew down to Florida with a buddy for business reasons (dry ice cleaning training!), and while we were down there, we decided to visit Obsessed Garage (we're both huge supporters). We got to tour OGHQ, as well as the new Yard Building:

You have been quite busy, I was considering going to the Vintage event but just started at a new place so taking a week off is out of the question. I am planning to attend the Saratoga Vintage event and might even take the E36 M3 in October.

I'd love to attend a Vintage at some point...I just don't have a vehicle that would qualify.

Yep, April 2021 to today has been about the busiest stretch of time in my life. But I wouldn't change a thing!

Thursday was a big day for me and the business. Spent most of the morning at the shop setting up and organizing all the various supplies/tools/etc that I had dropped off previously while I waited for my Kaeser delivery.

Now to get an electrician in there and wire up the electrical disconnect for the compressor, as well as whatever needs my Challenger lift will require, so we can start making some moves. Cheers!

Um, yeah, I'd say so. Lots of changes since my last entry (how the hell has it been almost 7 months?!). See next post...

Also, did you end up grabbing that E90? Looks like a clean option!

Congrats, man! Where in MA?
Thanks, Franklin MA. Took that Pic in Bellingham.

Good luck with the new venture!!

Oh not super far from me. My buddy from college lives in Bellingham.

If you know anyone who might be interested in dry ice cleaning, send them my way! Thank you!
That pic above was at Rock N' Coal

Will do! Where are you located? (feel free to PM)

Fancy compressor, will you be making your own dry ice or does that need to be outsourced? Where is the shop located. Would love to have my E36 and the E91 get done at some point this year that way I can stay ahead of older car leaks.

I'm in Swansea,MA...and the shop is located in Raynham,MA.

I'll be getting dry ice delivered. To produce dry ice is an entirely different beast. Need more equipment and tanks and space than I currently have.

Raynham,MA. Right off 495. Would be more than happy to take care of you. You're welcome to swing by the shop once I'm operational and check out the process firsthand. It's remarkable!

Spent some time at the shop yesterday after work, getting a quote on my electrical needs and prepping the Kaeser setup for install in the next week or 2. They're coming out to the shop on Friday to look at the building and get an idea of what I'll need for the install/startup.

Also got word that my Challenger lift MIGHT be installed on Thursday, which is great! Got one bit of bad news that hopefully won't affect me too much. But I was told by the landlord that all units would be 3phase/200amp. Turns out, they're 3phase/100amp. Luckily, I think I'll be under that. But was very annoyed at having recently signed the lease under the pretense that my unit was 200amps. If it turns out to be an issue, I'll have to have a conversation with the landlord and hopefully he does the right thing and offers to help me out. We'll cross that bridge if and when we need to.

These things weight over 500lbs a piece...I'll need to recruit a few guys to help me stand them up:

The 15hp beast that will hopefully drive the business forward and get me out of my day job!:

Oh and got the bathroom dialed in over the weekend:

Electrical tomorrow. Should have the quote from Kaeser on plumbing the compressor setup, and then hopefully just a week or 2 to get that done. Would love to be shooting ice by the end of the month; wish me luck!!

Really depends on how much business I can attract. Figure to start taking on work primarily during the weekends to start, and as it (hopefully) picks up, will do weekday nights, if need be. If I get busy enough, I'll cut back to part-time at my full-time job and the goal is to eventually have dry ice be my full-time gig.

Very excited to get the M3 up on the lift and get the underside dialed in, as well as the wheel wells and engine bay. And this will give me an opportunity to mess with the alignment of the exhaust a bit and try to get the tips even. Will be able to loosen up the section 2, which I didn't do when I installed the exhaust while it was on jack stands, for obvious reasons.

Thanks for sharing the wheels. I don't have a need for them now, but I did save the listing for future reference. I would like another set of wheels for the car at some point down the road so I can swap back and forth at will, but with all the money going into the business, I need to keep the spending in check for now.

Electrical is complete, pending inspection. Waiting to hear from Kaeser on how much install/plumbing/startup will cost and then figure out scheduling for the work. Also called a local dry ice supplier to setup my customer account with them. Things are starting to roll!

These puppies (Minions) weigh 500lbs+, but 4 of us MEN were able to stand both up on Saturday morning:

And because we had 60 degree temps on Saturday (followed by 7" of snow yesterday, I kid you not), I needed to sneak a quick peak at the M3:

Spent a few hours (with help from my dad) getting the Kaeser equipment relocated to their permanent locations (roughly...I'll let Kaeser do the rest):

51893833765_1f30013d0e_c.jpg

51893270038_701a2cee7f_c.jpg

While he was there, we filled up his work truck with all the broken down cardboard boxes I'd accumulated, as well as the various pallets and other trash. Perks of having pickup trucks with liftgates and dumpsters at his job!

After he left, I swept up a good portion of the shop and filled my new Husky rolling tool chest with the tools I've purchased, thus far.

Getting real close to being operational. Kaeser will be here 3/1 - 3/3 to plumb/install the compressor setup, then I'll get dry ice delivered and get to work. Would like to spend the first week or so working/training/practicing on my own vehicle first, so I'll get the GX470 up in the air and have at it before I start to take client vehicles. Might even bring the wife's Grand Cherokee and/or dad's Jeep XJ for additional practice.
