I try my best to be a positive attitude kind of guy. Finding the silver lining in all bad things helps me get through them.

As I mentioned in my intro thread- my 1100 square foot garage recently endured a fire. The damage was primarily aesthetic with some structural damage to a wood frame wall that separates the two bays.

My insurance company has been working with me to get everything fixed. During the process my silver lining is that I now have an excuse to build my garage the way I want to.

I will post some pictures to correspond but do not have any right now. The framing is done and drywall and ceiling are back together and painted. We installed new openers and doors. I am astonished how quiet they are now.

Friday I pulled the trigger and ordered RaceDeck flooring. I was initially going to only do my workshop side of the garage but they were so helpful and the cost worked well in to my budget that I opted to just do the whole garage. This I am sure will be the focal point of the garage as I also sprung the extra cash for a custom logo to be printed in to the tiles building a 6 foot wide center piece for my workshop side.

I eagerly await the arrival of the tiles and will post pictures of the flooring for sure.

Too bad about the fire but, if everyone was safe, then that's the good news. Good luck on the new and improved one!

Glad to hear the house was saved and recieved no damage as that is generally not the case, especially when fire happens at 2 am.

30 days after moving in there was an electrical fire in the garage and the smoke caused extensive damage to the contents which included 8 motorcycles, all my tools, my cabinets, shelves, tool chests, refrigerators, tire changer, compressor, tractor, and a boat load of motorcycle parts. Did you know that soot can cause flash rusting to any metal? It can turn a brand new drill press in to a heavy, rusty, door stop in less than 24 hours. Sounds like a bad story now.
From your Intro thread. What usually happens during a fire is any protective coating on steel or iron, whether it be paint, primer or oil is burned off. This leaves absolutely bare metal, which does rust quite fast as you have found out. If they DP suffered no significate heat damage, you can clean the rust off, repaint and use it again.

You're in good spirits, have a great attitude about your situation and we look forward to seeing some pictures of the progress.

AHHHH!!!

My flooring will be delivered today. Very excited. Flooring means I can buy my cabinets and shelves and tool chest and **** to fill it with!

That means I need to take some pictures before we start the floor. Hopefully I will have time tonight.

Flooring arrived.

Pictures of garage were not taken last night as promised due to having to empty one of the PODs contents back in to the attic so we don't get charged for another month of storage.

Unfortunately the order was shipped incorrectly so I am on hold with the install.

We did get a check from the insurance company for the majority of the contents...so I found my way to Lowe's this past weekend. Pictures to follow.

Just after all the drywall and ceiling was removed.

The root cause of it all....

There were 10 motorcycles in the garage at the time...none of which had insurance.

Old work bench. Wooden top will hold the smell of smoke and the bolts and drawer tracks are rusting.

My shopping assistant.

And she's also my garage assistant.

Got a deal that was too good to pass up on the big-in of Kobalt boxes. MSRP is $1898- Paid $1300.

After the drywall, paint, lights, and new doors. Progress is being made. Slowly but surely.

The white tiles came in and we were too ancy to wait for the installers who are coming today.

My wife- who I might add is 8.5 months pregnant is a testament to the ease of install for RaceDeck. I did the heavy lifting but she was determined to do an entire bay all by herself. Granted there was no cutting involved with the exception of trimming a few of the loops off. The installers will do the final trim work around the garage door tracks.

We also did half of the workshop bay but called it a night around 10:30. Not bad for 5 hours with breaks for beer and pizza. No the wife didn't partake in the beer.

The workshop side- before- 90% of the stuff is in the PODS from the fire still.
