Funny old tool cart

In a moment of madness at a farm sale , I bought this

It's about the size of a hazet assistent, but instead of pillars ,
the tool trays are supported by scissor type bars
I though it was German , given the wheels look similar to the ones used on hazets but it has a English made Union lock, the only markings are
" patent applied for"
It's been very well made , maybe 1960's or earlier ,there are a couple of Phillips screws on the locking bars

The base is in need of bit of welding due to water ingress , but fixable

Love the pavers. Never thought of them as ceiling material. I may have to steal that idea.

What keeps it from folding down and chopping off hands?

That is freaking SWEET. Can you provide any more details on it? Are you in the states or outside? Almost looks like a very faded blue paint? I hope someone can share some info on that.

BTW, welcome to GJ

Edit, since everyone keeps bustin' your stones, I hope you don't mind, but I inverted the image.

Yeah ,struggling with the picture uploading how can I rotate it?

Can't find much info about the box , I did find another on eBay that someone had stuck a snap on sticker on and painted it red but seriously doubt it's snap on

Thanks for the rotate,

I'm in England ,

The colour is blue gray on the bottom and stays , pale gray on the top two

It's clever how it stays up , you pull it right up and the top pivots drop into holes a sprung
plate , to drop it down you squeeze the plate to release the pivots

When it is fully open how sturdy is the top surface? 5lbs max, 15lbs max, 50lbs max? :dunno: Are there any raised stamps or the like on it?

Can you PM me a link to that ebay ad, I wonder if there are any numbers we could pull off of a freshly painted one. Didn't you know, if you slap a SO badge on anything it instantly becomes a SO box.

Couple more pics , probably upside down

I've spent the afternoon degreasing and jet washing it, I'll take some more pics tomorrow ,
I was a half a mind to keep it as , but the bottom skin is holed and really needs replacing , the wheel mounts are perfect , it's piece inbetween

Funny thing is there were loads of people at the sale , yet no one grabbed it ,
I paid the princely sum of £8. The chap I bought it from seemed amused that someone wanted it, maybe these days folks just like new shiny red boxes made out paper thin steel , the steel on this tool is tough , the scissor supports are about 4mm thick

It was on eBay uk item no 290989833707, ( search completed items)
mines slightly different with outboard wheels , that one has small wheels underneath

It does have a lovely snap badge though, instant kudos

I would think the top would take a fair weight , the spring plates locate it quite firmly ,
Feels as rigid as my hazet , if not more so , 50lb would not seem unfeasable , the towing handle stops any side to side movement that could unpop the pivots

Quick update,
I've just sat on it, takes my weight no problem and I'm rather more than 50lb,
Lets just say when I get on the scales the needle swings round to " who ate all the pies?"

edit: never mind, I was thinking of the Hazet assistant, which that clearly is not.

Maybe, although in my experience their stuff is a tad flimsy compared to my box,

The more I look at it , it seems like someone used Hazet as a starting point and changed the lifting mech for copyright reasons .the tray dividers , the mounting of the wheels is all very similar .
The build of the box is different , Hazets being pressed steel , this one is all folded sheet

Hi Folk

This is my first post.
Hey to my surprise up comes the ad of the toolcart I have just bought!!
I'm the UK guy who won that.

The snap on badge is aluminium and the words snap on is cut right through. It sure looks like it's supposed to be there.I would love to know the history of that. It is BUILT ,as pro as it gets.Real heavy duty.It can't come down on your hands as the offset of the drop instantly acts as a brake (kind of)

When I get some time I'll post some photos.

Regards

rothko

hi rothko

small world !

any names anywhere else on it? on my trolley just above the lock , the middle tray has patent applied for stamped in it, the tyres have a small diamond logo that may have SS within the diamond
the lock on mine is English , which does not rule out it being snap on but I doubt they bought uk locks
