Future Steel Building

Hi everyone. I have just moved onto a five acre parcel of land and now need to have a garage/workshop put up. I am torn between a stick built shop which there might not be enough time to have done this year, or a future steel pre fab building kit.

Are any of you guys using steel buildings? Do you like them? Would you have a preference one way or the other?

What I am finding is that a steel building could be up in a pretty short time providing I get the concrete in before the ground freezes. There are some good deals out there on cancelled sales etc. Going with a stick built shop means paying full price for all materials and then still paying some big labor costs too.

I guess I want the best of both worlds by getting a nice shop to work in and not having to break the bank!

Please let me know your thoughts about the buildings mentioned. Thanks a bunch!

I have had both, stick built and steel. The stick built was a lot better, but the steel building was twice as big and went up in about 4 weeks.

Both cost about the same.

If I had to build again, it would be steel (it's just a shop not a house). I did add a lot of insulation, finished the interior and add HVAC to heat and cool the entire steel shop as well as smaller units to condition the wood and steel shops inside the main shop.

Of course no one ever says wow when the see the steel shop.

Are you considering conventional steel buildings like that shown above? or are you looking at steel buildings that have no inside structure, the sheet metal is the structure? Such as the one in THIS THREAD. The "canceled orders" is a hoax, its similar to "fire sale" in New York City, it is just something to get you to look.

Like Charles said, those "cancelled" orders are bull****. Deal with a local supplier if possible.

They both have their pros and cons. I built a 24x24 steel building for a shop and am in the process of building a 38X46 steel building as a home. Link is in my sig below.

I like the erection quickness(not ******) and lower maintenance of steel. It is a little harder to work with so there is a little learning curve if you are building it yourself.

Stay away from the outfits offering discounted cancelled orders.

Agree about the cancelled order scheme and on small buildings steel is ok but finish is harder and not all that much cost to save. When you get to big spans, above 60 or 80 ft another story as well as different design options.
