Got a good price on the FUH5-4, ~ $200.00 with shipping, but may also keep the little Air-N_Water unit for the laundry area.
Have not even tried the FUH5-4 yet, still sitting in the living room.
Have been working too much to feel like doing anything which I hate.
Everyone says, " The Money The Money The Money The Money The Money "
Sometimes, what good is money if you don't have time to do anything IMO.
Thanks,

Where did you find the FUH5-4 for $200? My local Northern Tool has it for $299 and I have t seen it anywhere else.

Also, is it official that the FUH is the same unit as the G73? I think i read that in another post.

I think i found it... Blain's Fleet and Farm

Yeah, that's it, it was a little cheaper when I got it,
Think it was $187.50, but you still cant beat it for $199.99. There shipping was reasonable too.
Good till the end of the month too. If they run out, check back in a few days, they had it back in stock, and I was able to get it.

Yes you did, Don't have 1st hand knowledge of that though.
Anyone know how the Fahrenheat FUH5-4 heater from Northern Tool compares? The specs seem to be almost identical.
Charles
The Fahrenheat FUH5-4 and Dayton G73 are identical inside and out.

Thanks,
Tony

Yeah, that price at Blain's is great. I think I'm going to order one.

Thanks for the follow-up!

I just got my order in for one also. Thanks for the site info. I have been looking for a good price for a couple of weeks.

MrBreez, I know just what you mean about the money. I have too many projects around here that when I have the time, I don't have the money and vice-versa. Finally decided a year ago that when I have the extra money it gets spent for the projects. Now I have too many parts laying around and still can't find the time. HA

Glad you guys were able to order one. Was the shipping reasonable? I think mine was only about $11.00.
Yeah, It's like tonight, I worked from 7:30 AM till about 6:30 tonight, I won't be doing nothing but hanging out at the PC for a little while, and going to bed.
Thanks,
Tony

Mine was like $14 and change but they didn't say how it was being shipped. After I got the confirmation email it's coming Fed Ex and should be here by Friday. Now to get the wiring rerouted from the welder I don't have any more.

Along the lines of electric heaters: I was considering going electric in my shop, and I bought The Hot One, 4000W with thermostat from Menards on sale. Nice heater. But in a 40x40 with 15' ceilings, even with very good wall and ceiling insulation, it ran a lot when it was less than teens outside just to keep the shop at 45. And the recovery was very long of course. With it running non stop, it would consume almost 100kwh per day. At about $.11 per kwh, that was $11 per day. That could turn into an expensive month! Now I use the propane to keep heated, and the electric under the loft when I am doing engine work. It's really nice to just heat the localized area of the shop be be comfortable there. Plus, it doesn't break the bank for a couple of hours.

I installed my Dayton G73 today. It did take the chill off in about and hour. I think when the insulation is finished tomorrow night it will be much better. So far so good.

I put in new G73 last year, small shop 18'x 24'--7' walls--does a good job,the only thing I don't like is if is 30 degrees when I go in,kick it on it runs-shuts off then does again, and again, till it warms up. I have a heater in my basement [@ home, you turn it on and it comes on and keeps running till warmed up.[don't know brand] is there anything to get p 73 to stay on when you turn on at 30 degrees????? THANK YOU......

I think that is just the normal operation of the fan. When the air coming through it is cool enough to trip the thermal fan sensor, it shuts off the fan until the heating element catches up to turn it back on. Solution-- don't let it get that cold. Might cost a few bucks more though. You have to decide whether it is worth it or not. I doubt that your basement gets down to 30º also which would make a great deal of difference in operation.

I use a LP heater to get the garage up to 40F or so and then kick on the Fahrenheat unit. This helps to avoid the rapid cycling you mention in the above post. (And, yes, the heater is supposed to do that at especially cold temps.)

Its good to know that about the rapid cycling with cold air inlet.

Got mine hung this AM. The garage was setting at 50º when I started it up and so far after about an hour and with the dial setting at low the temp is at 60º. No short cycling of the fan and about 10 seconds of smoke from the heating element as it heated up which was also referenced in the instructions. Seems to be working great. Mine is the Fahrenheat model FUH54 and as near as I can tell, it looks identical the 56nashes Dayton without the Dayton sticker and the louvers are the same color as the rest of the cabinet.

Got it hung, now need to get everything I need to get it running, thought I had enough extras in the garage but it doesn't look like it. I see it recommends hard-wiring, is this necessary or can I run it with a plug with no problems? Advice please.

Either way its about a 20 ft run.

I don't know, some guys say to hard wire only, but I talked to a few guys, one is a retired electrician and one is a Engineer of some type, but seems to know a lot about electrical and code, both said it would be fine either way.
I have a twist Loc on mine, but have not used it too much to say either way.
I know a lot of guys here have used a plug and outlet.
Some say use a twist Loc, not a straight blade type.
Like others have stated, I used # 10 wire off a 30 A breaker.

I had an extra dryer cord laying around so decided to make use of it for mine. Ran 10-2 w/ground off a 30 amp breaker to an outlet matched to the cord. Been keeping the garage right at 62 all weekend.

Well after checking out the cost, I just went ahead and hardwired it, ran it through conduit. If I would have used a plug, I would have had to buy a new outlet and plug so cheaper to hardwire it. It does work GREAT, but wasn't as cold out today so time will tell.

Thanks for the replies!
