Finally starting my garage/workshop. It's a 16x20 detached garage. How do you post pics?

when you make start a thread or reply to a thread scroll down to the bottom of the page to where it says manage attachments on the left, click on a tab find your pic and select it. I think that will work for you, and good luck with your new build.

The the trusses are now on and I am working on the soffits. I have had questions and had no idea about this forum. So if anyone can help please chime in.
I need some ideas for the soffit. I thought about just screening it and using lattic trim but I was wanting something more clean looking. Any ideas?

Your build is coming along nicely, we don't often see garages in that style out here, well around this area any way. Keep up the great work and thanks for posting.

I got the overhead door installed today. It was nice to set the subcontractor up and leave for an hour and come back and something was done I didn't have to do!but I am really enjoying building it. Just not enough time in the day!

Ziggs google rain screen and you'll get lots if info. As always, there a proper way to do stuff. The theory is that having a drainage plane behind the siding allows for proper drying out. A lot of paint failure can be explained by moisture getting behind the siding and then migrating through the siding and popping the paint off.

Good looking garage. Nice to see a reasonable size garage going up. What are your plans or projects for the shop? Got a layout for the interior yet?
Post you location in your stats so you can get good answers specific to your location. I see exterior lights so I assume you have electric.
Man door area going to have a deck or landing in front of it? Hard to tell by the photos.
Can we see all four sides? Windows all around?

I would consider putting rock around the garage to stop the "splashback" from the rain off the roof..

Thanks guys. Yes it is a roll up door. I recessed it between the joist so it sits just under the attic decking. Worked out well.
I do not know about the deck yet. We have thought about doing something. Right now I just want to get the interior finished so I can move tools in.
I'll try and get some pictures of the over sides. I have the man door on the right with a small window. That is the only window. I wanted to keep as much wall space as I could.
I have three 8' - 2 tube (t-8) strip lights and 3 recess light over the work bench area. I am happy with the amount of lights. There is a 50 amp sub panel that I have three 20 amp circuits (one circuit per wall). I also ran compressor air lines with my compressor in the attic and a switch down stairs to turn it all.
This weekend I am finishing the floors and hope to insulate next week and start finishing the interior walls.
I'll post more pics soon.

I'm building a 18'x24" pole barn and I'm also looking for interior layout ideas. I'll have a 9'6" ceiling height and I was debating wood walls, but I think I may just go with 5/8" fire code drywall.

I see you are in N. Fla. Are you going to install insulation? I not sure about how cold it gets but I imagine it gets hot down there. AC unit or just fans?
Loft upstairs with a pull down set of steps?
If you want wall save for storage , why not OSB board painted? Plenty of spots to hang fasteners, for cabinets and everything else.

I do plan on insulating the walls. Nothing yet for a/c though. I have some tools I want to buy first. I did a ridge vent and have the downstairs vented well to the attic so surprisingly it doesn't get too hot in it.
I have nice storage up stairs. About 5'5" at the peak. I was hoping to have 8' when I was originally designing but local codes wouldn't let me go above my house.
I have been thinking about osb or plywood. I may do that with some other plank wood or something.

Probably should be painted a light color. Anything dark would make it seem smaller than it is and harder to see inside if not all the light s are on.
What kind of tools do you want to buy? You know the rules, you never have enough tools.

Ok walls and the top of the build or at the below the lofts. Decide on a wall yet? Some of the other threads talk about using plywood and the paint it. Easy to hang something anyplace.

If my next house only has a two car attached garage this is exactly what I want to build size wise for my workshop. Wife's car and kids toys in the attached, work truck in the driveway, and this would be my workshop.

I could have gone bigger on the foot print but the height I was limited to about 14'6".
Update:
I still haven't finished the inside yet (3 of 4 walls are done). I did get a 17" bandsaw (220) though which has been great. I had 30 cub scouts cutting pinewood derby cars last year in it. I need to get back to the shop though and finish. I am needing to put gutters on the garage now because of splash back at the man door is damaging the wood jambs (should have done composite...). I didn't think through the water shedding off the roof enough. That's the only mistake I am not happen with thus far.
The compressed air lines are run just need to finish hooking the compressor up in the attic.
We are starting to build a boy scout garage at the church Friday so finishing the garage is pushed back another month...
