I've been wanting a garage for a while but have no idea how much one costs so I'm gonna ask some folks you have went through a build and have some rough estimates for me. I'm thinking just a one car with tin roof and corrugated steel siding, it has to be insulated so that has to factored in and I don't plan on any wisdoms just the garage door an a standard man door. Also full concrete is not a must only around the back and sides were tool boxes and other stuff will probably be. I don't really have a size in mind but I'm thinking 25X35. Thanks!

25 x 35 is larger than a 1 car - I just finished a 28 x 34 in NY - I had to do a full foundation due to the pitch of my yard and including site prep, concrete, lumber, metal roofing, electrical, doors, windows, insulation etc. I came in at just under 60K. I did as much of the work as I was able to do myself or cost would have been considerably higher.
I'm currently building a secondary 24x32 detached. I have 2-9'x7' garage doors, one 36" walk in door, and 3 windows. We decided on 12" footings and we went with a 8" poured stub wall. I also have a 20'w x 40'l approach. My total quote from a friend was $29,500 for the concrete and garage with finished exterior, nothing done on the interior and no electricity.
That was too much for me so I had my friend do the concrete work ($10k) and my dad (he's a carpenter) I went to Menards with a materials list and bought all the materials and we are putting it up. My lumber, shingles, siding, soffit's, doors, garage door openers, and windows came to around $7700.
BUT, I bought it all when they had the 11% rebate so I have almost $800 coming back to me for sheet rock and insulation. I still have to get with an electrician which I'm estimating around $2-3K.
All said and done I'm hoping to have around 22-23K into. I also paid my dad $3k for some of his time and his friends time. I help when I can but since we have short days and I work close to 50hrs a week, he has done most of it. Hope this helps

A 28x36 addition and a 24x7 bumpout onto my existing 28x36. Replaced all of my siding and shingles on the existing to match the new, drywalled and insulated.......$50,000.
Thanks for the replies guys, I had no idea what dimensions would be but I want a nice one car with lots of space for a workshop and kind of storage area. Also my dad you used to build houses for a living so I would be paying extra for the work to be done. Thanks

My garage is 24X36, is insulated and heated. I also have an air-conditioner in the window that I take back out when it gets cooler out in the Fall. The garage is built with 2X6's rather than 2X4's and the trusses are extra heavy duty because there is a second floor where I can store all sorts of stuff. There is R-19 insulation in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling. The second floor is not heated and is not insulated.
I had several friends who helped me build the garage. Some of them could work in the daytime and some could only help after they got done work.
I had the concrete work done by a very good concrete crew, the shingles were put on by an individual who has done several of the houses on my block (including mine) and he does excellent work. The siding I had planned to do myself, but it was very hot and my helpers were working pretty hard at their regular jobs so I decided to give them a break and hire the siding put on. I had already bought the siding and it was sitting here so they put it up and they also put up seamless gutters and wrapped all the trim so I don't have any painting to do. I hired the drywall done as well. Two guys came and put it up, taped and mudded it, sealed it, primed and painted it.
I had to hire a master electrician to pull the permit for the new electrical service and to oversee the job of getting it set up correctly according to code, that's the city rule. I pulled the permit for the inside wiring and ran the wiring myself, then I had it inspected.
The total cost for everything was right at $30,000. I hope that gives you some idea as to what things cost.

I still need to do the siding, the soffits, trim and all the electrical. My guess is that will be a few thousand more with me doing the work. My goal is to get it done under $20k - its gonna be close.
I hired out setting the roof trusses, installing the roof panels, and the concrete work for the slab.

I'm currently in the process of building mine, Pioneer is who I choose to build it. I could have built it myself but I work overseas. I didn't want this garage build to tie up my rotations. For a 24x40x10 building, scissor trusses 4/12, 5 windows, man door, gutters, shutters, vapor barrier on roof and decorative 10x9' garage door with glass inserts. It was $15,500 give or take

Concrete work and grading is often the most expensive part. Are you required by code to put in a frost wall? Do you plan a lift in the garage? Trusses are often cheaper than the equivalent rafters and make installation a lot easier.
It is the little stuff the adds up in the end too, Electric, Insulation, and Dry Wall.

How much you do and how much you hire out is a huge factor.
I see a range from $8k to $60k quoted in this thread. It really can vary that much from doing it all yourself to hiring it all out.
We built a concrete slab floor, post and beam with vinyl siding 24x36 garage 10 years ago for $7600 doing all the work ourselves.
