I'm still trying to come up with a cool name for my garage. I restore old VWs, have a Crossfire and various other toys. Either some German name or something evil sounding. A long term plan for the garage is to also use it as a winery/meadery. I want to have a "hobby winery" eventually. Right now I have a 2 year old, so I can't put the time into it that I want. My house has a 2 car attached garage, but I hate to leave my BMW out in the elements all the time. When I can clear our a spot, the wife gets it. This past winter, my temporary garage collapsed on one of my VWs under the weight of 54" of heavy snow, so enough was enough. I pulled the trigger at the end of April on the loan and work got started in early May.

We go from here:

to muddy hole:

to footings:

to forms for the walls:

to walls poured:

to backfill and compaction, ready for the floor:

and here I sit today. Waiting on the builder. Talked to him yesterday and he was doing another pour. Said he would get to my floor either late this week or early next week. Considering he started at the beginning on May and told me approx 4 weeks, I imposed a timeline on him yesterday. That it had to be done by the end of June. Fully true. We're having a party in mid-July and I can't have my property looking like a construction site. I just hate delays.

I hate the delays too but it looks good so far. I wish I could do wood, had to rely on a buddy to build my place, 26 x 30, paid him cash and always had beer, lots of beer so he was there on time, I was Manwell as in manwell labourer, that I can do, looks great , keep the beer fridge full and the pics coming

with my 2 year old running around I think I'm going to cap all the rebar like that! This is like a giant sandbox to him.

The good news is that I've hardly paid him anything so far. I'll pay him for the concrete work once the floor is done. I have a bunch of stuff to do once he's done, or even stepping on his heels a bit. Electrical, lighting, garage doors, floor sealer, patio (near the grill), landscaping, etc.

forgot to post some stats. Garage is 30x36 with a 30x6 porch on the pool side. 10' walls. attic trusses. Metal roof and siding.

no floor yesterday. He came to the house to get his trailer so that he could bring the power trowel and chute extension for a monday pour.

I got my 10 gallons of Chemtec ONE delivered yesterday, so I'm READY!

Mann Hohle? Imagine telling someone THAT one! :D

Sieg Heil is still in my mind. Lawinengefahr is cool, but maybe too difficult for us Americans to pronounce. Great ideas though! keep them coming. I need SOMETHING to distract me for another month! :)

'Werkstatt' has a good ring to it, since it will be your workshop. Although 'Sieg Heil' is great.

The progress is looking great. Slab really looks good. Keep up the good work.

the guy DOES do good work.

I don't have any floor plans yet. I've done the lighting plan so far. I'll have 10 8' HO fluorescents. close to 5000k temp. I still have to go over the switching with the electrician, but they will be in banks of some kind. I won't need them all, all the time.

Bug Barn - not bad! I should play off the VW Bug thing. Karmann West maybe?

I like that...

"Karmann Crib".....?

Karmann 'something' sounds better than bug barn...but, "bug barn" could be your informal name for it...

"Honey, I'm heading out to the bug barn"....or more likely (wife to you) "Your sleeping in the bug barn tonight!"

I like Karmann Krib! Best one so far.

We finally have some progress. All the walls are up and roof trusses are to be delivered by Wednesday. :) I'll have more pictures to post this weekend.

he does do good work! The horizontal 2x4s are for the metal siding that will be going on soon. According to the wife, he's there but debating on what to do after lunch. We had a record high yesterday and it's looking like the same again today. As much as I want it done, I would not work today.

On the left side of the photo will be the covered porch. I think he's working on that right now.

Can you take detail shots of how he will tie everything together with the metal siding...at the eaves and bottom? I'm contemplating using the same thing and just can't figure out what you do with all the ridges in the siding. Like how to keep bugs out.

hpw,

They make different stuff to put on the bottom of the metal to keep mice and critters from getting into the building.

Here is a foam seal for different shapes of metal siding. http://www.metaldeck.com/foam.html

The site also has different trim pieces to close off the ends.

of course!

This is me in the 1974 back during the winter of 1987-1988.

And here it is, running, in my driveway. The garage is being built in the upper left of the picture.

This is the 1964 that I got dirt cheap. Pans and heater channels had already been replaced. Original bumpers and fenders were with it. Engine is original matching numbers (verified with a "Birth Certificate" from VW in Germany)

This is how I got it:

And here it is after I stripped it down, repaired the body and painted it. My first paint job ever.

Very nice build and great paint job on your '64. When I was a kid my father had a '65 and I used to ride in the space behind the back seat. I still remember that car like it was yesterday.
