Building a new shop, considerations are a roll up curtain door or sectional track roll up. Looking at cost and ability on the sectional door. Certainly it takes up more room because of the vertical and horizontal tracks. Is it feasible to utilize (7) 21" panels to attain 12 plus feet in opening height and not be concerned about this extra weight on the tracks. I have seen this done before for RV openings but usually they are limited to 9' or 10' openings. I was wanting to go 16' wide. Reason is, the new building will set behind an existing house with a 9' footer and a 16' footer that are already 8' foot height. Just wanting to keep the same theme going, otherwise I would certainly go to the roll up curtains. Main question ??? Is 16' foot wide gonna tax the tracks because of the weight. Keep in mind, they will be sheet metal only, no insulation. I want to go with Amarr as this was the original door manufacturer.

I'm confused - why would you want 21" panels? You're going to pay more for 7 - 21's than 6 24's... You'd have to ask your amarr dealer - is it possible yes... Will they do it? Possibly...

I've done 40x40's - 16' wide isn't going to be a problem, 16x12 depending on manufacturer might push you into 3" track (which I'd recommend anyway - 2" has been getting pretty light for big doors)

The reason I called out for the 21" panel was because that was what the current doors on the house have for the top and bottom panels. Really did not know they used a 24" panel, thanks for your response and yes on the upgrade to a 3" track, certainly may reduce any future problems in which I was concerned with.

The only 24" sections Amarr makes are commercial ribbed so if you are wanting to match an existing raised panel door it will need to be 21" sections.

The raised panel will also be less expensive by around 50 bucks even though there are more panels. Both the residential and commercial both use 24 gauge steel as well.

16x12 is no problem for 2" track, especially for a pan door. For most companies, track thickness gets thicker as door height goes up. Yes, 21" sections, though if you are doing that, why not just get the 12' high door with 6 21's and 1 18?
