Typical seals (see pic) are so passive. They just make contact and the sealing is not that great. Is there anything better?

Those aren't that bad if installed or adjusted properly. If they weren't installed properly and if there's room between the jamb you can often adjust the door track brackets to make better contact. Sometimes when an overhead door gets replaced this doesn't get done properly.

If done properly those are plenty good enough.

Interesting video. thank you. I emailed for a sample. That thermo seal would be great. Wonder if it can be added to a seal already installed. The serpentine tracks are cool too. If a ever built a new garage or got new doors I'd use them

In the meantime I applied window weather insulation to the backside of the seal after cleaning it. Although not perfect, it was a worthwhile improvement. A 10ft length cost $2.68 at Home Depot.

Eventually that will tear or stick and make a mess. Did you try to adjust the track closer to the jamb and seal? Less time than running to HD and applying the tape.

  1. Open beer
  2. Loosen the bolts
  3. Push against the seal
  4. Tighten bolts
  5. Drink beer
