Hello,

So we are building a new house with a 3 car attached garage and I am going with one 18x8 door and one 10x8 door. At first the builder said that the only way to get windows in the garage door is to go with the carriage style doors which were really expensive. I actually emailed the company that contracts to do there garage doors and they said windows can be added in to any of there standard raised panel doors, which is what we will have. Do you any of you have an idea what the cost premium should be around for having windows in the top row of the garage door? The builder quoted me an extra $625 for the 18x8 and $325 for the 10x8. That seems really high to me. I tried to ask the installing company what the price difference was but they won't give pricing out because of their contract with the builder. Any input you guys have would be great.

Use the menards ideal(clopay) price tool to see. I think homedepot has a version too. Sounds about right thou...garage doors are one of those things with really low basics and then bleed ya for the "nice"..

I had a 12’wx10’h commercial grade insulated door installed last fall when I enclosed my shop lean to.

Price premium for windows was about $250. Total cost was right around $1600, including adjusting another 12’wx14’h door.

I know when I went to order my two garage doors, the added cost of windows were ridiculous. So, no windows for me. It doesn't make any difference hat we think, go price them.

Just got back shopping for carriage style doors for a new house and shop. I went in wanting Clopay Canyon Ridge Limited Edition due to the high R-20 value. Dealer said they were $10k EACH for a 9 foot wide by 8 foot high door. That is nuts, I'm still shopping.

There would seem to be a bit of profit-taking there. I got a Haas 9' wide x 8' tall door 2" thick, albeit no windows, for $650, DIY install but full track, spring & hardware kit.

What Windows you get will depend on the door model, insulated glass or not, decorative inserts, decorative glass. So price will be all over the place. Settle on what door model and then the glass option. That one dealer isn't the only one selling that brand of door, just to compare prices. Worst case scenario you tell your contractor to delete the door, subtract the retail price, and you go buy it where you want.

I paid $1500 installed for Amarr. It's an insulated door but not the windows. It has lowered the temperature in the garage since I'm west facing. It was worth every cent.

Thanks for the help guys. We have told the builder to go ahead and add the windows to the door order. We are going to pick window design out when we go to the design studio for selections. I'm wanting to put them on the top row as the doors will face the street and I don't want people to be able to easily see in them as they walk up to the door. I have too much stuff of value that I don't need disappearing on me. I did some research on the pricing and what the builder quoted me seems to be on par with what everyone is charging for windows. I just some time there pricing since adding a whole house humidifier to the furnace I was quoted $860. I called a local heating and cooling company that I know and they said they could do it after the fact for about $500, so I'm going to go that route.

We used 8 x20 and 8x10 Haas Doors for our 3 car garage. It added about $950 to have double pane glass windows in the top row of both doors.

I had an 18'x8' door and a 12'x8' door installed with openers and windows in the top panel. Total cost was about $3200 which included everything for the doors and openers and all the weatherseal around the doors. I can't see out the windows but it does let a lot of light in which is nice during the months where it's too cold to leave the doors open.
