I recent thread talking about calenders got me thinking.....

Why not a "The Garages Of Garage Journal" Calender?

You could submit a pic of your garage along with a short description and any other comment.....then members could vote....pic 12 for a calender...then go down to Office Depot where they will make a calender for you using the pics you supply.

Following year....new calender....if you have been on it...your excluded for say 3 years so someone else has a chance.

We could apply some 'rules' or guidlines....Best use of space....originality....uniqueness.....etc.

Of course we know Jack's garage would be on the first calender....and I know of a couple of other 1 car garages that would be good canidates....the 'keep it real' in me says that the over the top garages would not be in it....

What do you guys think?

I think it's a great idea and I'd be up for one. I think it would be great to have a calendar with some glossy pics of garages. And I agree that it's too late for a 2013 but would be a great idea for a 2014. Price could be competetive with other calendars that they sell in the malls and such. $10-$15 for a good calendar wouldn't be too out of line.

You might have to post this in the suggestion forum or e-mail Ryan directly and see what he thinks about it. I don't know how long it wopuld take to do something like that, but a poll could be put up with the garages to vote on until we come up with the top twelve. And not all would be the showcase garages, but have a few of true working garages that have some dirt in them.

Great idea Ddawg :rocker:

As I stated earlier this is a great idea. Lets us not rush it and make it something collectable like the version done every year for the HAMB forum.

Also a little patience on this topic please so we can get all the ideas together.
We can still have more input and ideas.

The reality is that there is so much variaty and diversity in garages here that I don't think we would ever run out of pics or ideas...

I like uniballer's idea of a gas station......

I think there is a way that each month could have a large pic of the 'garage' and you could have small 'thumb nail' pics of different parts of the same garage or tools that are in it.

I've actually been to some of the garages of members on here.....OccupantRJ (can we say "machines"?) and NastyZen (one of the best tree houses I have seen) to name a couple....oh, and then we have Tatra (he could get the pack rat award) and winninpegtibook (cozy)

So much to choose from.....

Just because there are only 12 months....it doesn't mean we can only have 12 pics....or, we take say December and make it a colage of garages and tools.....

And....the names on the pics have to be the GJ screen name.....

I think we want to keep it G rated.......if we have any pinups in the pics, it will have to be Mrs E-tek.....we know we can trust E-tek to give us pics in good taste.....

Lots of guys with nice looking wives/GF's here, but me thinks we should just stick to garages!

Plus I already made a calendar with Mrs E in it for me shop...plus a copy for my office, nightstand, bathroom....:rocker: :lol_hitti

So how do we get a copy of that calendar ?
Have you done a 2013 one yet ?
Using the same photos .

I agree Ed it needs to be like the HAMB calendar and on the theme topic as to what the forum is about.

Nicely done calendar by the way. :)

Unfortunately, as she gets older, she gets more self-critical. I keep telling her she looks great, but she says it's only because I'm getting older, hornier and need glasses...She let's me post a few on GJ for fun, but won't let them go any further...:dunno:

That why I questioned about using the same photos in the next years calendar :lol_hitti:beer:...... Sorry must be the Aussie sense of humor.

I see the 2013 HAMB one is now avialable.

Seeing E-Tek's calendar(NICE calendar!!) got me thinking that we may want to consider the layout of the calendar also. Not just the number of months but also whether we want a wide calendar with the pic and month next to each other or the traditional calendar with the month on the bottom and pic on top.

Also, what would we want on the front cover? A simple logo or maybe the logo at the top of the page?

Even think of what colors we would like throughout this and the type of binding for it. Most calendars are simply stapled. I see E-Tek's has a spiral binding. It's more expensive, but this will be something for us to vote on.

What about a "centerfold" (for lack of better words) which simply showcases a certain persons garage or project? Maybe we nominate or vote for a certain member to be in that centerfold. Once a winner is picked, give them the option to show either their garage or a project they're working/worked on.

Maybe on the back cover we could showcase a members outstanding contribution to the forum. I can't recall of the top of my head who this was but, a couple of members did testing on the contact points that various sockets and wrenches have. I'm new here and that post was a few years old but THANK YOU!! I did find that very interesting and I know collaborating all of them sockets and wrenches for testing and then actually doing the test was not something for a Saturday afternoon.

Also it may be helpful to post a sticky some time during the year to ask and get a count of the actual number of members who want a calendar. It would be a damn shame to waste a bunch of money on a calendars and only get a few orders. And definitely put the price out there also for people who show interest in this.

Like I said, I'm new here but, I'm all in on this thing. And I agree with the donation instead of "sale". This site gets a lot of praise but never doubt the stupidity of people worrying about us stepping on their toes.

I know of a certain web site that helps out members of a hotel chain in collecting their hotel points. They show bonus promotions and extra ways to earn the most points. I think it's a great help to the business of that hotel chain but it didn't stop the hotel from telling the site owner to sign over all rights to the site and get the hell outta here. I just want to make sure we don't shoot ourselves in the foot here.

Just my 2 pennies.

If it was pictures of the garages of GJ members, I'd buy one to hang in my shop. If it is just a bunch of chick picks from members that think their wife is hot, I'll pass.

I think it was decided some time back in this topic it needed to be Garages or Vehicles of forum members. Photos I posted above are that of the 2013 HAMB version so others get an idea as to what could be produced.

Weird, but I think I have NEVER been in this section of the forum.

Anyway, first think I saw was his (hence the sticky), and I love the idea. I looked at the HAMB calander and I like it. Curious though, does Ryan run HAMB as well? Then he would have experience with making the calander. Nonetheless, count me in for one purchase. Someone remind me to set aside 20 bucks in a year. :)

I'd be interested in buying one if it was under $20.

Also, I have seen several calendars that are 15 month. So as a collector 1st addition you could make a 15 month that includes Oct 2012 - Dec 2013. If it goes over well enough, just make 12 month calendars after that.

My vote for content would be: let people post up pictures they think would go into the calendar, then let everyone else vote. The top 12 (or 15) get in the calendar. Set a deadline date for submissions and voting. On the final date the most votes on submissions win. Warning: This is going to be a monster sized thread! Maybe have a special group (Ryan, or moderator group) have final say in order to keep a common theme or format.

I also think all the pictures should be garage related. If a member wants to showcase their car, project, or wife, it should be pictured in their garage or in front of their garage. I have already seen many awesome pictures on here like this. The votes would decide if it's good enough for the calendar.

I'm in for a couple of them.
But, I have plenty of car calendars. I would like to see more garage's showcased. Like someone earlier said though, not the dream garage's, but the common mans garage or workbenches. Something a guy on budget could do. I am in awe of some of the garages and shops on here, but many of them cost more than most family's make in a lifetime. And then they are packed with half a dozen cars that most can not afford. So my vote is to keep it real.

It might be cool to see months dedicated to different countries garages in a 15 month Calendar . For example have for or five pics for a particular month from 1 country with four or five different garages. Just a thought.
Cheers
