Garage opener/door alignment issue

Stuck in a bind and im hoping to get some insight on what you would do.

I just had a 16x7 garage door installed (minus the torsion bar) and the door is centered, but the opener that was previously there isnt. It's off about 2 inches. While the opener rod can connect to the door bracket, im really concerned with strength and wear over time.

The only option ive considered so far is get a 1x6 piece of wood, screw it into the beam, and then screw the opener track into that which would center it. Im a first time homebuyer so some of this is still new to me.

Here's a diagram from inside the garage...

The opener does not have to be centered on the door. 2 inches off is certainly nothing to worry about. Remember - the cables on each side are actually doing the heavy lifting. The opener is just initiating the process and holding it down when closed.

I have actually seen openers installed all the way to one side or the other of a 16' door as passnthru said it will be fine.

I would move the bracket on the door, so it's square between the opener and the door, but other than that...2" off center isn't going to be the end of the world.

I wish I could go this route but the bracket uses pre-drilled holes that have a beam inside the door (from what the instructions say). Also, the door has windows, so I cant really move it much.

The door it replaced was wood, and I'm sure that's how the previous owner aligned it.

2" off might be a bit much when the door is all the way up and close to the opener. Personally, I would move the opener over for piece of mind, but it's probably ok.

Sounds like you are using the bracket that came with the opener. I've never actually been able to use that bracket.
I have several spares laying around at the moment.
I usually just use an angle bracket. I believe that your draw bar currently fits into the bracket. It doesn't have to go there. It can go to either side if you want the draw bar to maintain a relatively level drop simply by moving the bar to the outside of the bracket and taking up the slack with spacers or washers.
