The Goodwill store near me always has 5 or 6 older receivers probably just like the one you have now. Usually $20 or less and they will be better than a cheap Amazon import.
I have never seen one at ours. I see posts like this and I am always amazed because our local store has nothing of the sort. Last speakers I saw there was a Gateway computer speaker pair.

Led interference and poor am reception. Poor tuners in newer stuff. Car radios have great tuners. Really thought this woild be the led issue. Radio going bad was low on my bingo card.
A lot of garage door openers try to prevent the use of led bulbs due to interference.
New.unit with good tuner, am too, and possibly an external antenna.

Craigslist is full of older AM-FM stereo receivers for reasonable prices. Also check estate sales and yard sales in your area, I've found great deals on them at those places.

Try a different neighborhood. They get better donations in the better neighborhoods. I got several older, former upper end surround sound receivers, subwoofers and speakers in a middle class/upper working class neighborhood. They also would let you return it if it didn't work.

The RCA Super Radio and the CC Radio are high performance radios on the AM side.
I'm not familiar with the RCA Super Radio but did once buy a CC Radio which was disappointing.
The CC didn't seem to pull in any more stations than an old, cheap portable that previously lived on my nightstand.
I decided to compare so put them side by side and slowly scrolled the dials. Indeed the CC didn't grab any more than my old $20 portable did. Fortunately I was able to return the overpriced, underperforming CC Radio.

Remember what the OP said, he just wants to listen to the radio.
Yes, but there's is the IHeart radio app. It plays regular radio stations.

I'm not sure though if there's any AM stations on it, as I don't listen to amplitude modulation.

Edit Here's iHeartRadio stations for the OP's location.

Are you running the stereo from a powwr strip? A lot of times they don't provide a very good ground path. Also good chance that on the back of the stereo itself there's a grounding receptacle, may just be a screw or something like that. Grounding the unit itself can make a big change sometimes. Good possibility that the capacitors are getting bad also.

I have had a home type stereo in my garage for years. I have some large speakers that are mounted in the rafters that still provide pleanty of volume.

i listen to AM radio M-F when I’m able to get in the garage. I listen to talk Radio And baseball games
Weekends I listen to a local FM old rock station if there is no baseball on.

I don’t mind spending some money if need be to get me back to where I’ve removed the static
But to be clear don’t want to need internet, don’t want to stream….Just want old school Radio with a clear sound

please help

Hey guys, remember what the OP said. NO streaming, he just wants old school radio.

The one I suggested has a tuner. I suggested it simply because it has the tuner the OP is after and will power his speakers for very little cash outlay. Yes, it also happens to have BT, but the OP doesn't have to use it. My Dad just uses it for FM.

Didn't the OP say he wanted AM and FM? Looks like the little Pyle doesn't have AM. He certainly could stream AM stations from his phone to the Pyle though. That's a bargain price for that unit.

If you’re building is metal I’d also suggest running a wire to it from the antenna terminal on the receiver.

Jump on Facebook Marketplace and get a used receiver for next to nothing. You can get some older stereo receivers cheap because most buy receivers now for surround sound. I have an old Kenwood Receiver in my garage powering 4 speakers and it's been great.

I suspect your Goodwill probably doesn't take electronics. I could imagine how Goodwill could fill a substantial portion of their store with old electronics if they allowed unlimited donations. Goodwill often won't take stuff that doesn't sell, takes up too much space, or costs too much money to dispose of. Electronics can be expensive to recycle if they don't sell, or are broken.
