Thanks, I'm going to get back out on it with the compactor in a few hours. Plans for the day changed again last night, got called for a 1500-0700 overtime spot....add another 16 hours to the total.
Driveway looks pretty good now after another hour or so of compacting. I only did the new drive area. I think I will hit it again after the next decent rainfall to see if I can get it any better.

I did talk to the neighbors the other day and mentioned getting weights for the JD. One of them said he had a set of weights I could have. I told him no, I'll buy them, so we worked out a deal, $1. They are the plastic weights and I'm going to get a piece of steel and cover the outside edge when I can.
KIMG1918.JPG

Then I got a little time to work in the garage. I finally cut the socket rails down and put the deep wells on them for my truck tool kit.
KIMG1921.JPG

One problem, the fiberglass handled ball peen doesn't fit in the new Apache case. So I will buy a new ball peen with a wooden handle that I can trim down.

Next up was to work on a set of GT-40 heads from the Mountaineer I bought the engine out of. I had one spark plug that stuck and came apart during removal.
KIMG1923.JPG

After letting it soak with Kroil and other penetrating oil, the easy-out wouldn't touch it. So I applied some heat, still not enough. I started with a drill bit and worked in 1/16" increments and finally won the battle of this war.

Next battle for this war was removing two broken exhaust studs. Fortunately, one of them finally loosened up before it got to the welding stage.

KIMG1925.JPG

First attempt, the stud broke off.

As you can see, it's too long too.KIMG1934.JPG

A little help from the bandsaw and belt sander and it fits nicely.KIMG1935.JPG

Im taking advantage of a couple of vacation days to get some stuff done. I should have been racing but the rear end is still out of the Mustang. So back to a back log of projects.

Last year I built a cabinet for the daughters kitchen above the microwave. I had not yet made the doors for the cabinet.

So this is what I am starting with. KIMG1936.JPG

I was going to make entirely new doors but came up with a plan.
KIMG1938.JPG

I'm going to attempt to section the doors to fit the cabinet. I made a template of the cabinet face.KIMG1937.JPG

After cutting a section out of the door, this is what I have left.

KIMG1939.JPG

Glued along a few screws on the back side and drying. It'll be drying while I'm at work and I can start sanding when I get off work. I need to make the edges and faces match up or pretty darn close. Since it sits above eye level (cabinet above the microwave) it won't be noticed much. . .. I hope. Once everything is sanded, it'll get a new coat of stain and some poly, hinges, handles and hung.

Those cabinet doors are finally just about done. I put the 3rd coat of polycrylic on them and maybe installing them tomorrow.

Now if you come to read about my little JD 1025R, thank you. An update.

I just passed the 200 hour mark, doing some PM work and an upgrade. I bought a filter kit, oil and 5 gallon bucket of Lo-Viz hydraulic oil from Deere. I changed the air filter out, piece of cake, Changed the oil, no sweat. There's where the fun stopped.

These have 2 fuel filters on them. One is visible with a canister and the other is a small plastic inline filter underneath.

I wanted to clamp the filter off to prevent fuel from coming out of the tank. That didn't work and I ended up draining the tank completely. Below, you can see the old filter lined up with the new filter, the barbed fitting that comes out of the tank and the small section of hose that connects them.

Pretty brilliant of someone at Deere to think that a 2 1/4" piece of hose for a filter with a 1" barb and fitting with a 1" barb was long enough to connect them. Oh, don't forget to turn the clamps so they are faced up under the bottom side of the floorboard with no access.
KIMG1971.JPG

I tried to put a small valve coming out of the tank but there wasn't enough room. So the easiest thing to do was lengthen the hose. Next time, I'll be able to clamp the hose off to change this filter.

I also gathered some parts to create a new tool. an 18" piece of hydraulic hose, a 5K PSI gauge and a few fittings.

KIMG1969.JPG

I now have a gauge to check hydraulic pressure. Why ? Well that is coming up.

After getting fuel filters changed and solving the fuel line issue, I moved on to the transmission. I drained it after buying a new 4 gallon drain pan. Now that it's drained, it's time to upgrade. I placed an order for a few pieces. For reference.

More than a letter came in the box. There was some goodies.

and a better look.

Some feed lines, a flow diverter and new bigger pump.

Then remove the cover for the PTO and hitch plate. The PTC cover will get a slight upgrade later.

Off with the seat.

Along with some trim removal, opens up the area to work.

Moving the the underside of the left wheel well is the factory flow diverter. It gets modified but has to stay in use due having the PTO switch in it. All of this is covered in Hydrosplus Youtube videos. He's got a decent selection of videos which are done so that anybody can understand them.

DSCN0057.JPG

Once off, a fitting has to be removed out of the side and a cap taken off the top. Once the cap is, there's a valve that needs to come out.
DSCN0061.JPG

They are replaced with plugs included with the kit.

The diverter was then remounted and I made my way to the rear of the 1025R. Factory pump is a 7 GPM pump.

DSCN0058.JPG

You can see how thick the factory pump is.
DSCN0059.JPG

The new HydrosPlus pump is a 9 GPM pump. It also has a 90° on the output. I know 2 GPM difference doesn't sound like much but there's more.

Here's where the big difference comes from a new divertor that is part of the kit. This diverter is adjustable unlike the factory. The factory 1025R pump makes 7 GPM and that is split evenly between the steering and implements, each getting 3.5 GPM. The new diverter is set at 2 GPM to the steering and the rest goes to the implements. So with the new pump, the latter is getting 7 GPM. This doesn't increase capacity but does increase speed.
DSCN0063.JPG

The new diverter is feed from the hydraulic pump first sending to the input on the factory diverter.
DSCN0065.JPG

Maybe a better shot of the new diverter and the lines attached. The kit comes with a drill bit, tap and mounting bolts. Right side of the diverter is the incoming feed line. Top left is the output to the old diverter. Bottom left is the feed to the implements.

Time to fill the system and check for leaks.

DSCN0068.JPG

So much easier with the seat off. Plenty of access.
DSCN0069.JPG

Once it was full or atleast where I thought it should be, I started the tractor, checked for leaks. I ran the FEL to cycle the oil and try to purge and air out of the system. Checking the oil a few times, I think I have it where it needs to be.

Then it was off to "hot rod" my Deere. Increasing flow, just makes the implements move faster. It'll also allow multiple operations of the implements at the same time. This is the biggest issue with this little Deere, it's just slow. To increase power, you have to increase the PSI. A combination wrench and Allen wrench got the job done.

DSCN0070.JPG

This is where my newly built hydraulic pressure gauge came into play. Factory setting is anywhere between 1900-2100 from what I have read. Mine was at 2000, it's now at 2500. Easy to adjust if I need to.

Then it was time to put everything back together. You might remember the PTO cover.

DSCN0072.JPG

Included in the kit are new mounting tabs. Originally, they had you cut the PTO for clearance. Now with the tabs, it's not needed. Just a simple swap and you can see the size difference.

DSCN0073.JPG

Once mounted, you can see the PTO cover clears the new pump.

So to sum it up. This kit isn't cheap and some may not want to possibly void the warranty of their Deere. I put the bucket back on the FEL and dug around bit in some dirt I have at the house. My reaction was a huge smile and a "Holy F#&K" this thing is fast and the power after bumping up the pressure, wow just wow. It's like night and day difference.

I had considered (and mentioned about buying a second larger 2 Series Deere. We have a wedding to pay for and this was my work around for the time being. This is still a $1400 kit but way cheaper than a new $30K JD. The other option that I see Kevin now has available for pre-order is larger cylinders for boom lift on the FEL. Maybe once I get past this wedding this fall, I'll try out a set of them as well.

I know Kevin Nguyen is a member over at GreenTractorTalks and quite informative guy. If anybody is interested in this kit or question, I'd say to get ahold of him there (kenguy) or visit his website.

This is the exact same kit I put on my 1025r last year. I am pleased, and you will be as well. Really helps the backhoe behave like, well, a backhoe!

It is truly amazing what the power of hydraulics can do and how much a small upgrade can improve things. I've used a buddies 1026r a few times and wasn't all that impressed with it's hydraulic capacity but that upgrade kit looks sweet.

I know they don't have the exact same engines but his has North of 4,000hrs so there is a lot of life to be had if maintained !!

I rarely post in here but I do enjoy following along !!

One last post back to those cabinet doors. Finally getting time to sand, stain and put some poly on them, they are done.

They're not perfect but at some point, the daughter and future SIL will be remodeling the kitchen. Until then....KIMG1990.JPG

It's going to be a long time till I hit 4K hours. I do plan on using this little JD but not abusing it.

Nice, wish something similar was offered for the "Orange" Tractors.... I have similar issues with my BX

That's an upgrade you'll really appreciate every time you use the tractor. I especially like how the new diverter is adjustable -- I can't believe how undersized the old diverter was. Nice, clean job on the installation.

You would think someone would take the lead, seeing how it can be done with "Green" tractor, the "Orange" ones have a decent following too.

The other option is to make the switch to a different color.

The factory really isn't undersized, it's just the way Deere built it. . .probably to make sure the warranty claims don't pile up.

Smaller pumps prevent pseudo-operators from folding backhoes and loaders in half doing things they aren't designed to do. It makes for frustratingly slow/weak equipment to those who know better, but if you want to do some hard work, you use a big machine.

I'd like to get a 2032 or 2038, but this was the cheaper option right now.

So last week, I borrowed a buddy's trailer for a road trip to Tennessee. He's got an open trailer and I didn't want to drag my enclosed all the way down there.

Trip went fairly well, except for hitting some road debris and ruining one of my BFG A/T tires.

So my buddy's trailer has a spare tire but nowhere to mount it. He wouldn't take any cash for using the trailer so I decided to modify a spare tire mount.

First up was cutting some tubing. This gave me a chance to use my bandsaw for the first time.

KIMG0083.JPG

What I'm going for is something similar to this. I made these to haul my pallet forks on my old open trailer.

As I started welding it together, the low battery light came on in my Miller helmet. Since it was raining out, there was was no way to recharge the batteries. So apart it came

to check battery size. Once new batteries were bought, it was time to get back to work.
