Looking at that basement, I should have bought stock in Great Stuff Foam.

That's a great transformation you've done.

Thanks...

I wish I had stock in Great Stuff.. a froth kit would have been nice but I worked little by little... something spray foam doesn't take kindly too.

I wish I had pictures of what it first looked like and how bad it was. I don't think either daughter had ever went down there until the recent years.

A lot of Great Stuff
A lot of concrete block
A lot of bagged concrete mix
And
A lot of 5 gallon buckets.

Took some scheduled time off work today. Plan was to cut wood for winter heat, but it's rained last few days, then decided to pour concrete in the basement to core fill some block, RAIN.

So move on to try to restore internet to the shop. Almost 4 hours in and it's better not much.

Still can't get the extender to work, it's been reset in the house while hooked to the Ethernet. But take it out to the shop and nothing. Nighthawk App is virtually no help. It shows net-extender but under a different device now and trying to connect wifi. Damn POS, it was supposed to be hard wired but I can't seem to change it.

Decided to test the Cat5e going out there again to make sure it works, great, apparently, I left it on or the switch got bumped on. 9V battery is dead. I have no other 9Vs here.

I did try to bring the shop PC online, it did connect with Ethernet but needed a Google Chrome update. It's running slow. WTF ? I do a speed test. I'm getting like a 2Mbs download and less than 1 upload. WTF ?

Check speed test in the house on PC, LAN and it shows 350+ Mbs, my phone shows 146/10 down/up respectively.

Almost tells me, I'm getting no signal to the extender where it sits, either WiFi ( reason for the thing in the first place) or the LAN is so weak, it's not picking it up.

This thing worked fine before I unhooked it, no hiccups since I put it in last year. Now, after unhooked for 2 weeks, it's ****.

I'm not sure exactly what is going on with the net extender, but I believe it is working now. However, it shows as the regular router my phone is connecting to rather than the extender.

Previously, it showed the extender and it would connect to it. I down loaded the Netgear app and reset everything including bringing the extender back in the house for setup.

I tried a few things including having to reload Chrome on the shop computer. It's hard wired and finally came back online for the Internet.

So when I went out the day before when I worked on the shop floor, it appears that all was working correctly.

Eric, my home network seems to have built-in AI. I get everything working one day and it all goes south the next day. Maybe it's not AI but at least AS (Artificial Stupidity). I end up doing so many different things to fix it that I forget which one worked to fix the problem. I suspect it has something to do with my network having dynamic IP address.

Does it say, I'm sorry Bob. I'm afraid I'm can't do that?

Basement is looking great Eric.

Boy does that bring back memories..... going to be a nice useful improvement.
Thanks. Slow process and it's not an everyday thing.

Parents were over last weekend and stepdad wanted to see the progress. He was impressed and hadn't been down there since we swapped out the breaker box.

So I bought this lift table for a future project in the garage. Being a reported 630 lbs, I'm not moving this by myselfKIMG1706.JPG

I didn't want an actual lift table but just part of it, the top. Have you priced steel lately ? This top is 48"x60"x 1/2" thick. Looking online I found prices any where from $750 to over $1K. So any thoughts what this top plate is going to be used for ? One hint, I won't be cutting it down to size, the current size will be (should be) perfect for my garage.

So I gathered the top piece for the welding table a while back... couple years ago. Things got hectic with work and it got put off.

I told myself the other day, I need to get busy and build it this winter. So today with snow/ice on the roads, single digit temps and a wind-chill of way below zero, I ventured out.

I came home with this.

So after I came back from getting the steel, I chilled out in the house with my dog for a bit. ... for the real ouchies like JC mentioned.

While getting the steel, I slipped on the ice while getting out of my truck and landed on my side. Hard.

First thing needed done was to cut this center mount off.

Accomplished.

Next, start grinding down the weld.
KIMG1072.JPG

Then I started to grind off the blue paint. I think this is going to take a bit.

This is better suited to be done outside but not in the single digits. Even though it's the bottom, it needs cleaned up. It would really be nice to take it down the road and have it sand blasted.

Oh my, I didn't realize steel had gone up that much, sadly if you want to do a project in steel there really isn't much option. I don't envy you stripping the plate, are you using a rough grit flap disc or something else?

40 grit, tried 80 grit, wire wheel and another composite disc. Trying to see what works best.

Have you tried moving it outside and then dousing it in muriatic acid? That stuff is supposed to take mill scale right off. If that paint is over mill scale maybe the paint will come off with the scale?
We're in single digits right now. I'm not doing it outside.

But, yes, I wish I had a can of Aircraft Stripper.

Glad nothing worse happens. Since its still in the same side up/out, I'm assuming it slid down the wall and didn't fall forward. The fall forwards are the ones everyone tries to catch and bad things happen.

We had a new guy who tried to catch a 300-400# bearing that started to fall off the bench away from him in the test labs and he got thrown across the bench and several feet past the part. His trainer reamed him a new one. "Let it fall! It's just metal. We can get a new one. I don't want your death on my conscious!" That always stuck with me.

I was trying to walk it away from the wall. As soon as it went just a bit too far, I just let it go...

I feel the say way about my open trailer Eric, should have built it years ago when steel was less expensive.

The table is coming along nicely by the way.
There's time's I wished I would have kept my open trailer. However I would rather have something with at least 5K axles than the 3500lb axles mine came with.

Thanks for the compliment Mike.

After supper I went back out to work on the welding table. I laid a couple of welds and then cut the larger tubing for the center cross member.

KIMG1103.JPG

When it got to the end of the cut, the bandsaw started squealing. After the cut was f starting looking at what the issue might be. After popping off the gear box cover, I found this.
