Once it was in place,I drilled holes and ran the lags it. Then I welded along the base of the blocking. I didn't feel the need to go overboard and weld all the way around it. The 2x4 was merely sitting there till I put one carriage bolt in it for peace of mind.

I did some grind, wire brushing and cleaned it with some lacquer thinner. Up next was the Krylon red primer for 2 coats.

Followed up with some Krylon satin black. I was going to use some Rustoleum, but man sometimes that stuff takes forever to dry.

You can also see in that picture that I have the basement jack out and it's all in place. I did have to touch up some of the white paint as is got some **** on it from welding & grinding.

BTW, I've been debating what color to paint under the workbench, that's why it's unpainted. I considered dark gray like the walls. I think the best thing to do is go "black" like the rest of the bench already is.

I like the gray as same as the walls, and for the vertical wrap below the bench top, use the same blue as you used for the shop wall accent.

I have decided to keep with the all black workbench/cabinet theme though. Since I was derailed (but well worth it) with the wagon refurb for the granddaughter, I had no updates, till today.

I decided on a small project, nothing too time consuming. I was going to paint underneath the cabinets. I had the paint and figured a few hours and it would be done. Low and behold, I have issues with even a small project and started a thread on my troubles with some paint.

If you didn't see the thread, I had a new can of Rustoleum that had issues. I also had an old can that I wasn't going to use at first. Notice the center two brushed on paint, that is the new can, which looked like an black oil stain. The top and bottom brushed on paint is out of the older can.

We made a trip to Menard's returned a few things and I picked up a new can. I talked to the lady at the paint dept and she was helpful, shook the new can and opened it to check it out before I bought it.

This is what I did this evening.

Finished. . . .somewhat.

If you notice it's not painted where the shelf is underneath, that's another little project. I decide to put a small door in there to hide that shelf. It will still be open on the other side. That side can't be seen unless you get under the bench and look at it.

I did a little playing in the garage yesterday. I started with some scrap, pegboard, 1x4s, hinges and magnetic catch.

A little measuring and cutting got me this far.

After some assembly, I just need some more black paint and then it can be hung as a small door.

Thanks, I've had this pegboard that I replaced last Spring and don't know what to do with it. It's only 1/8" thick so it's somewhat worthless. It might just get cut up for starting fires.

Nutt's GT, I have a Mustang GT, since I'm prior military, it's been confused before.

We drilled the holes in the SCBA bottles so they couldn't be used again. They are beyond their life at 15 years. It was basically done for liability reasons in today's sue happy world.

I still haven't picked up any more black paint to finish my last projectbut it will bedone soon enough. I completed another small project today.

I received this Cman cord reel for Christmas from my parents.

I decided not to use the mounting hook that came with it, I took an old one and heated it and bent it around. By doing this, it placed the hose reel closer to the ceiling by 1 inch. While it may not be much, it may help as I mounted the cord reel above my work table.

Left to right, Sears wall mount, the ceiling hook that came with it, the newly bent hook, what the new hook started as.

To accomplish this little project, I had to venture into the attic and do some wiring and add an outlet.

Once that was done, the new reel was hung in place and plugged in.

Those plug reels come in very handy. I have one but I need to upgrade mine or rework mine to a 20 amp trip for my belt sander.

I forgot to mention the other day, I picked up a TV from one of the guys at work. After my TV died a few months ago, I have been without but I have to admit, it's nice (atleast for me) to have one back out in the garage.

Wow... I was a lurker back when you first started this thread, and remember being impressed and excited to see the outcome. The last couple of years have been busy for me and I didn't even really have much time to lurk and lost track of the thread. I started reading it from the beginning last night and got 30 pages into it before getting interrupted by a house fire. Just got a chance to sit down and finish it up.

I gotta say, I'm super impressed. Not only with the space you have to work with, but how you've refurbed the house and the garage, and tied the designs together. Looks fantastic. I showed my ol' lady the pictures and she absolutely loves the house (she's doesn't get as excited about garages as I do )

I am planning to build a 24x40 as my first garage on this property (plan to add a much larger one in a couple of years) and posted a thread with 2 possible plans. However, since I've posted that, things have changed and I may put that on the backburner temporarily. Hopefully whatever I end up with turns out half as well as what yours has.

Oh, an LOVE the table you made for the FD. Really awesome!

I mounted the door I had made the other day. I think it gave the underneath of the bench alot cleaner.

Then progress shifted to something that has sat for a couple of years.My buddy came out with his son to help pull his stock engine out of the Mustang. It's getting freshened up to stick in his boys car. I pulled the cover off the car and snapped some pictures, yes the caris dirty.

I went back to pg.40 to catch up on your projects

Looks like the garage is about complete and you are off on all these fun little projects The saw shute, the christmas presents etc.

I'm thinking they are more rewarding than the big construction projects

Thanks Don, most of the big stuff is done, still have a few big things to do. I think I haveenough little things to keep me busy for a while. I'll be starting on airline replumbing shortly so that'll burn up some time.

Regarding your wood stove, do you just put a fire in when your working out there, or have one going 24/7? I was just curious, as I seen a toilet in a small room one of your pictures.

I have a barrel stove in mine and only stoke a fire when I'm out there.... Ya I read the thread how wood stoves are dangerous in garages, yada yada yada....
But I believe if you set them up properly, burn proper wood, and don't have an crazy raging fire burning, wood stoves are a great way to heat a garage! And cost effective too, if you gather your own wood. Yes, I know barrel stoves are obviously more dangerous than an EPA certified wood stove. I watch mine like a hawk!

Kevin, as a firefighter, I work 24 on/48 off. Everyday that I am off work, I have a fire going. Even after having this two week cold spell, my garage doesn't get colder than low 50's on my day off with no fire burning. I cut my own wood on my parents property and this allows me to heat my garage for less than $100/year. I try to keep the concrete warm by burning everyday, makes working in the garage more tolerable and enjoyable.

My stove is older than me so it's not EPA compliant but it's well built. I don't fear stoking it up before going in for the night. I do know and realize that a fire could happen anytime. It's what I call Murphy's Law Chapter 13, FIRE. If fire wants you, it's going to get or your property, it's going to get you.

I have a few of what others might call "sins" in my garage. I have OSB walls, but behind the stove I have metal siding and my cabinets/bench are 36" from the stove. I have a wood stove in the garage, no problem yet but I pay attention to what I'm doing. When I weld, I do it in the middle of the floor and wait for an hour after I'm done to go in the house. I also keep the garage clean so there's no junk laying around for a welding berry to hit. I also have PVC airlines, but Like I have mentioned, they are getting replaced. I had them before I was a member here, alot of others were doing it and I knew no better. Would I recommend somebody using it today, No I wouldn't.

BTW, I have a frost free hydrant in the bathroom, it allows me to shut the water off to the garage easily and all I would have to do is drain the lines and I can be gone for a long time and not have to worry about freezing water lines.

The mess that I was left with to clean up today. I put parts away and labeled/bagged all the fasteners.

Tonight I proceeded to get started with my next big project. I made atrip to town to pick up a few things. I wasn't home 10-15 minutes when my daughter got home carrying a McD's bag for supper. She went inthe house and I sat down for a couple doubles and fries. You can see pieces and parts laying about the work table.

Getting ready for the new airlines by priming the hangers. I also cut up some blocks to use as stand offs.

Yep, no problem here. It's one of the reasons I painted my bench with some plain old Rustoleum flat black. When it looks bad, I can roll a new coat on and cover it up.

NUTTSGT that is a great attic. I envy your storage, as mine is "much smaller"
I still have my daughter's baby bed up in mine. She is 41 years old this year.
So you can surmise I either never go up there anymore, or I have a complex on getting rid of anything! Every time I do look up there I get a case of the drops. I have over all these years shoved so much stuff up there I am wondering how the ceiling joists are still holding.
If I was 10 years younger I would clean it out and get rid of the lot of it.

I did some busy work today for the new airlines. I finished cutting the standoffs, drilled them and put a coat of paint on them. I also painted the hangers Bronze.

Why Bronze ? Because I bought what I thought was black but the cap color of the can. I didn't realize it wasn't black until after the first coat. It's still looks dark and will be okay I think.

Then there was the wiping down and painting of the black pipe itself. Now the floor has a primer gray color to it.
