Once it was in place,I drilled holes and ran the lags it. Then I welded along the base of the blocking. I didn't feel the need to go overboard and weld all the way around it. The 2x4 was merely sitting there till I put one carriage bolt in it for peace of mind.
I did some grind, wire brushing and cleaned it with some lacquer thinner. Up next was the Krylon red primer for 2 coats.
Followed up with some Krylon satin black. I was going to use some Rustoleum, but man sometimes that stuff takes forever to dry.
You can also see in that picture that I have the basement jack out and it's all in place. I did have to touch up some of the white paint as is got some **** on it from welding & grinding.
