Eric

At least you made time for pizza for the B-day grandson.

What’s the callback policy for your department? No mutual aide agreements from neighboring departments for station fill ins or larger calls?

Thanks

On my phone, let me answer that when I have a keyboard in front of me.

Doesn't look like many in attendance for the ground breaking Eric.
:bounce:

You should have invited a few more and handed each a shovel.

Nike, that was my thought as well..... I thought the Fire Fighters did just about everything together...... Well at least on Rescue Me, Chicago Fire, Station 19, 9-1-1, Backdraft, etc. portray that they do. :headscrat

We page in off duty personnel as the OIC see fit. No problem as long as you can justify it.

We should have 15+chief/ 3 five man platoons, 24 on/48 off.

Currently, one FF that left for greener pastures, a Lt that retired. They haven't been replaced. Our chief is off till his retirement date, we'll leave it at that. Currently, one Cap't is off on SL, he has a physical condition and trying to work through it.

We're working short and the city Admin knows it. The mayor turned down applying for the SAFER grant however, city council overruled him.

One Capt is on a 40hr week doing Chief duties. 1st PLT has 3 guys, as a LT, I run that shift with two awesome FFs. 2nd PLT has 4 guys, 1 Capt, 1 LT and two FFs. 3rd PLT has a Capt, newly promoted and 3 FFs.

We run back up to an EMS provider however, we do run with them and if they are all ******* (doing transports/county runs) we go on standby and do transport at times.

Minimum staffing is 3 per shift, so if we transport an EMS call, we page in. House fire, mutual-aid, bad accident or other odd stuff, we page in.

We get paid 2 hours of double time minimum to come in on call back. Not required to come in but it's greatly appreciated. There's about 5 of us we call the dependable. We are the guys that come in for call back, if possible (not drinking or out of town) and work the majority of the regular shift over time.

We do work with a few other depts for mutual aid, mostly the neighboring city. We had them over 3 weeks ago a house fire and were on scene for 8 hours. I bought pizza to feed the guys on that one. Granted it was Little Caesers but if was food. Did I tell you the pizza had a few crunchy bites ? Yeah, the bottom box was set down on an ant hill. Guess who ate a piece ?

Little Caesars how did you notice?:bounce:

I found out after rolling a section of 5" hose. I went to get another piece and one of the guys was like "don't eat that, it has ants in it."

No one complains here when the better half orders in a XL Shagaroni pizza when we out there Wrenchin and drinking beer.....

$5 pizzas are not the best but it's food. When you've been fighting fire for hours and haven't ate for even longer, you make do with what's available and cheap to feed guys.

Feeding 10-12 guys can get expensive. I'm not a cheap *** but I wanted to take care of the guys and make sure they had something in their bellies.

I didn't get any pictures last night as darkness rolled in before I could snap a few pictures. I should have finished digging out the foundation today but I got a call to work a shift today. So I'm glad I set a few stakes and put up some barrier tape around the hole.

Tomorrow is my shift so there will be no updates till Tuesday. If the weather holds out, I think I can finish with excavation in one more day. I may have to do a little clean up work when I break out the laser to set up footer forms.

That isn’t enough water for the new swimming pool.

I know. I was expecting it to have more that what was in it. I should be finishing up the digging tomorrow. I didn't get any picture today. Started late due to a couple of "short" nights at work and the wife and I went to grab some stuff at Menard's and a trip to Five Guy's.

Tomorrows plan is early, go get a few tons of stone. This is going to get placed under the footer and level it up. Then a thin layer across the entire foundation so as to not be walking in mud.

Since the hole got rained in, that made the clay all sticky. I hooked up the dump trailer and went to the quarry. I picked up 4 tons of #57 stone.

Then I uncovered this little guy. I'm sure he's coming out.

You could make it your very own Blarney stone out front, or have your address engraved and set it by your mailbox.

Only 4 tons, that trailer should be able to take 5 at least. ;)

It would but rated to dump only 8K, so I have stuck only getting four tons.

Setting up the footer forms today. Im off till 1700 so I'm doing what I can do. Id like to get the yard mowed before I go to work but it's so stinking wet. It was foggy this morning and it hasn't burned off yet. There is sooooo much moisture in the air.

Forms for the footer are in. I'm going to go back to the quarry tomorrow and get another 4 tons of stone. That should put me where I need to be for the pour.

I'm going to have to figure up the concrete calculation and check around for minimum load charges and price per yard. I may be doing an additional pour when they bring the concrete.

Off hand it's calling for 2.77 yards. I'd like to extend my trailer pad on the other side of the garage. But I need to see what I need total.

Looks good, I always enjoy your projects. I bet you’re loving that tractor. I have a little Kubota and I’ve really been wanting a backhoe attachment for it. Maybe one day.

Thanks Pat

I'm loving the JD. Using the backhoe, I wish it was a 2 series though. I've had thoughts of buying a 2 series with a loader and mount the hoe on it. This way I can leave the mower deck on the 1025.

We'll see what happens when its paid for.

Pics on camera but it's in the garage and I'm not home.

Footer forms all in, stone brought up to grade and rebar in place. Since I'm going to get my money's worth on concrete, I'm extending the trailer pad between the house and the garage. It'll get an extra 10' in length.

Tomorrow, I'll get picture uploaded and probably order concrete for Tuesday.

I hope you have cool and dry weather for the pour on Tuesday. Do you have any help lined up for the pour?

Will you leave room for an additional bay if you get another JD you mentioned about above?

I have a buddy lined up to help do the concrete, hopefully for tomorrow.

If I get another JD, I'll probably worry about that when the times. No holding on breath on that one though.

Good luck with the concrete.

Thanks, it'll be here tomorrow at 1000. 5 1/2 yards of 4K psi.

Here you can see more of an overall picture of the footer framed up and rebar.

attachment.php

Little more of a close up.

attachment.php

Vertical rebar used for grade and will be driven down once concrete is poured. A couple of spots the footer got wide. Thats ok, I can deal with it.

I'm not paying for concrete that I'm not getting so I am ordering more than I need and checking off a "to-do" project off my list. The footer will take just under 3 yards and the trailer pad extension with take just under 2 yards.

I've been wanting to do this since I first parked the trailer on the pad and had to mow around it.

attachment.php

The original pad got wire, this one is getting rebar since it's smaller and my truck will be sitting on it hooking up to the trailer.
attachment.php

From the opposite side.

attachment.php

This pad is going to be 5" thick. When I decided to do this pad extension, I thought to myself, I need more forming stakes after I framed up the footer pad. But. but but I could have sworn I had more stakes already. So I bought 15 more. . . . $45 later. Tonight I went in the basement and found 11 of them in a bucket.

Just in case there is any left over, It's going here, which is the corner between the house and house garage. Since I built this garage in 2004, I've needed to add and apron out front. Year after year, it gets back burnered.

attachment.php

If it doesn't come up to the 2x4 form boards, it'll get covered up with stone until time for the apron pour happens. I'll jut pin it together with some rebar.

Notice the new stakes still with the sticker on them ?

Now you have spares. ;)

Good idea on the bonus slab too.

Yeah, I'll be able to cross that off the to-do list hanging in the garage. I'd really like to cross off power washing the house & restaining the front porch off the list too. However, the hot 90-95° weather this summer with no rain for weeks put a halt on that. We have a shallow well and didn't want to use water carelessly if we weren't getting rain.

As usual, you're moving along at a pretty good clip. You do nice work

Thanks, it seems like it just been moving dirt for weeks. It was slow digging but I figure it would have cost me a grand to have someone dig out for the footer. That's 3 months with of payments for the John Deere.

I bet you were not even looking for the stakes when you found them. I usually find stuff after I have bought replacements.

Are you able to return any of the unused ones?

Nope, wasn't looking for them at all. Typical. Nothing got returned, I have them now and just add to the collection that somebody else deals with when I die.

Concrete is in. :rocker:

5 1/2 yards with plenty to spare. Better to have too much than not enough. Price was $128/yard plus tax & fuel/EPA surcharge.

attachment.php

You can see the extra that just got dumped in the along with the wash out.

attachment.php

If I would have known I was going to have that much left, I would have made this small pour bigger. It was already like 16" deep.

The trailer pad extension came out nice . . . until I'm brooming the front little pour. My friend says hey , you broomed it the wrong way. I was like no I didn't . I moved the John Deere (bucket full of concrete) so I could broom it like the rest of the pad.

Sure enough, I walk around back. Damn, I grabbed the broom and went the wrong way. Oh well. Leave well enough alone.

attachment.php

Then I'm finishing up the edges and I had Bones (yellow lab) out there, he walks right up beside me and walks right across the fresh pad.
attachment.php

Well. if any of you remember when I started this thread, we poured a new floor inside. As my BIL was troweling the door edge, our yellow lab Bode stepped up in the wet concrete.

I had to put Bode down about 4 years ago and I lost my BIL to colon cancer last Thanksgiving. So in their memory, I decided to leave Bones foot prints.

Looks good! Your JD is already paying for itself. Of course you wouldn't need the addition if you didn't have it.

That's a pretty good tribute, I'd love to have some of my old dogs' tracks around.

I made a point the other day when the wife was dumping her potted tomato plants. I had her dump them in the bucket so she didn't have to carry them down along the creek herself.

She didn't find any humor in it.
