Today, I knew rain was coming in about noon. So I tried to get two things crossed off the list. Coating the foundation and insulating the outside.

I'm using this Dow foam board that is 1" thick. This came out of my parents building that was tore down. I figured it was better to be used around the foundation outside than going to the landfill.

Doggone, pics are all out of whack.

These were the J-Bolt holders I made the other night. I'll be putting down a PT sill and a 2x6 bottom plate. It's spaced up enough and centered to be in the correct place. I hope.

Hey Eric...

I assume you're posting pics and not sure if its just me...
but I'm not seeing 'em

Glad to hear you're making progress!

...D

Yes, posting them. Looks like Imgur is dicking with the pics. I've deleted the "s" out of the https which should fix it.

They were there the other day. Maybe they got smart to that work around ?

I did the man door and O/H door opening the same way. A piece of rebar in each one and filled to 5-6 " below the opening. When the floor is poured, this will help tie it all together.

attachment.php

Driving by, this is what you'd see yesterday. Block cores filled under openings, 3 cores filled at opening, all cores for J-bolts and the cores filled which had rebar tied to the footer filled.

Back on track for today's progress.

I opened the 5 gallon bucket of foundation coating. For those of you that have never stirred a bucket of roof or foundation coating, I think sometimes you have to stir this **** for 15-20 minutes. This bucket wasn't bad, not too much settled at the bottom.

Working down the long side.

Maybe a better picture ?

Done with the foundation coating and putting on the blue Dow board.

This stuff is 1" thick and rated for R5. I have some pink board that will be going on the inside. I choose to use this stuff on the outside as it wasn't the cleanest stuff. It was a ceiling in part of my parents wood shop that got tore down. The slate roof leaked in a couple spots and the saw dust gathered on it. It also being an old building had some mice. So all the sheets had the odor of mouse pee. This is why these sheets are outside.

Hopefully, the rain will clear off tonight and I can out the pink board on the inside. The outside will be getting some stone and drain tile. It'll be covered with river rock like the rest of the garage and then start filling in the huge hole.

Last pic I see is 2616. Nice description, good enough I understand 99% of what's going on, and well written enough to keep me following the daily updates.

Spent the morning helping my SIL sorting out an electrical issue so got a late start today.

Put pink foam board (R4 3/4") on the inside today. On the fourth or fifth hole, broke the bit. I went bought 2 cheap ones at FFH. Then went to Ace and bought a decent DeWalt bit. It was made in Germany so I figured it was worth $5. A few more holes in, I knocked my hammer drill over, in the stones no less, and bent that bit. I finished up with the cheap china bits.

I also added stone along the footer for the tile. I skimmed the dirt off for the apron and put stone down.

It's October 1st and I'm so far behind what I thought my schedule would be. It seems that every time I try to get something done, I'm pulled in another direction. It's aggravating, frustrating and just pisses me off.

Taking into account, the time of year with the cold coming, leaves falling and the fact that nobody can leave me alone, and lumber prices, This may just get back burnered till Spring.

I'm going to lose probably 3 days next week due to a family issue. That wipes out my plan even farther of renting a plate compacter (week rental) to get the inside filled in.

Yesterday I put the tile around the foundation. I also put some tile sock on it. That was like putting pantyhose on a fat lady. Once that was in the ground, it was adding a layer of river rock around the tile.

Somewhere in there, I formed and poured a small concrete section for the spouting drain off the front of the garage. Of course this had to be done so it could connect to the tile that runs under the apron, which tees into the foundation tile.

Then the rain started falling. So I switched to working on the inside and of course. . . then I get interrupted by some cackling hens. So after the hens leave, I get back to work.

I insulated around the door opening, cut down and rethreaded the air line and put some of the OSB back up.

I have a feeling, I'm probably going to be closing that wall back in for the Winter.

Sorry to hear of the troubles, I know setbacks do stink and sometimes can't be avoided. I would almost agree, get it to a point where the building and addition will be able to make it through winter and let it set.

If I can get the floor poured and start back up in the spring wouldn't be too bad. A pisser but I can't get anything done , I swear.

I'll have to get the sill plate down and covered with plastic. I don't water to get in it, freeze and bust the block. Along with the PT sill, sill seal, I considered doing one other thing.

That's cutting foam blocks, wedging them in the first course of block and spray foaming the core of the block. That should help seal up the block.

Isn't that the way life is? I'm in the same boat, but I won't go down that road, or I'll hijack your thread for a week. On the pic issue, it might be a VPN issue on our side. I'll try to remember to check it out tonight.

At the bottom of the wall cavity, I blocked it and spray foamed it. Nothing more than a plastic wrapped board screwed to the studs and fill it up.

This is the small drain section I poured yesterday. Only like 12"x12" but its also about 12" deep. I made it deep to catch the vertical tile, 90° and horizontal tile.

attachment.php

You can also see the river rock that covers the tile along the foundation. As I fill in the yard, I will add more rock to bring the height up.

When does your weather break in your area so you really can’t accomplish much?

I know it takes time to gather materials and set up the job to get anything accomplished with our schedules. Just imagine what it would be like working M-F on daywork. Two
Days to get anything done along with all the other activities over the weekend.

The weather can break at any time. In Ohio, you never know, it might be snowing in two weeks. Im going to check out Sunbelt rentals for the compactor tomorrow.

Yeah, the work schedule does help. However, being a small department and already short on guys, means more OT or call back. Which helps pay for the project.

I hear ya on the "diversions"... seems like, no matter what I'm trying to get done, something always comes along that takes priority. Over the years, I've learned to have patience but... enough already.
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm in Wyoming trying to make some headway on this build. Now that I have family taken care of, I'll get a few weeks (days??) to work before the cold is here...
You've made great progress up to now. Everything looks awesome! Hoping you're blessed with a stretch of nice weather!

Sorry about your luck, and frustration! Our Ohio weather is going to be the daily guessing game for a while. As for the lumber, I am so pissed at how expensive it has become:rant:!

I hope the weather cooperates for you and you can get a lot more done, good luck!:rocker::beer:

Last night at work, I was checking the calendar and noticed that the day I put in for sick leave is not next week, but the week after.

Oh my golly, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Checking on a plate compactor here in a bit.

So is that like tar pieces and millings or just plain dirt that you put in there?

Im ripping out part of the driveway. Its chunks of asphalt. There is a small amount of dirt, just edges around the driveway that was mixed with stone.

I want to get the large chunks of asphalt down first. I picked up the plate compactor going to unload it after lunch.

I'm trying to upload off my phone and see what pics I haven't posted, please bear with me.

This about where I started fill in the other day. It's a maze of old 1960's broken asphalt and stone.

You can see the footer here.

I thought I had a driveway picture there but it was the smoke in the background for another conversation.

Making progress yesterday. Dig, fill, compact and repeat.

This is a view of the driveway that is getting removed. I'm taking stone out of the driveway, filing the hole. The dirt that came out of the hole will be going into the driveway to make yard.

I thought I had one more of the hole after I stopped for the night, apparently not. I'm going to be making a phone call tomorrow to price some stone at another local quarry. I've heard their stone is half the price of the other.
