That’s going to be a nice project. Do you plan on cutting the rafters at your place and transport them after you get a template cut first?

Sticker shock at the material prices yet?

Have you ever watched Ken’s Karpentry on YouTube? He prefabs all his walls in his shop, transports them On a trailer and then build the garage. He specializes in garages and has several models to choose from. If requested he can add some mods to it.

No sticker shock for me or my parents. I know what they had in the new wood shop put up last year. This will be about a tenth of that turn key.

I also had a shopping list so I could run the cost by them before I started.

I want to set it up in my garage and cut the rafters so its all assembly on site with minimal cutting.

Watched Ken a few times but not a follower of his.

After getting the transmission in the Mustang today, I helped my friend load some sandstone sidewalk pieces and a few large rocks.

I used an online rafter calculator for my parents shed build.Screenshot_20210729-210230.png

Which resulted in this test rafter.KIMG1197.JPG

It's in pieces loaded on the dump trailer. I'm taking the first 6 hours off work tomorrow to go to the landfill, get my John Deere home and mow the yard.

I'll try to get a picture of the trailer and another at the landfill for those that have never been to one before.

Was the old shed 100% particle board except for the doors and small patch I see at the front left corner? Water intrusion probably started soon after the original construction was completed.

I see from your post above your going to cut all the roof rafters at home and assemble everything on site.

Hopeful there are not any surprises.

2x4s and osb. It was dry for many years but got progressively worse over the years. Since last fall when I looked at it, I think a large falling limb would have taken it down.

Those weren't the original doors, they got replaced a few years ago.

OSB seems to have a lifespan anyways, it does a little better with paint, but it just isn't designed to be damp.

When I was growing up there was a paper mill across the way and it had a truck ramp that would take the entire truck and trailer up and dump the wood chips out. I used to love watching that, we would ride our bikes down to where you had a good view and watch them work.

My Old Man used to drive semi for a local farmer down to the Maumee river in Toledo. They had a similar hoist. Lifted the entire rig, tractor and a 36' trailer 4 or 5 axles under it. IF memory serves me right, they could dump two trucks at a time.

I started to set up the walls for the shed today. There was a slight problem. I took a rough measurement when I looked at the shed. . . . 10x12. Nope, 10x11'8"1/2. KIMG1214.JPG

Didn't get an update posted yesterday. So here's yesterday's progress today. All the rafters were in place.

You can see the rafter tails still need cut. I decided to cut them afterwards since the shed isn't plumb or square. Unfortunately, rebuilding it on the old foundation has caused a few issues.

I'll be going to Menard's to order metal for the roof on Monday. KIMG1227.JPG

Stepdad wants to remove a few inches of stone and put concrete inside for a permanent floor.KIMG1228.JPG

Are you putting metal on the outside of the walls or just painting ?
It will get vinyl siding on the walls. I've wrote up a shopping list for what I need to get/ order tomorrow at Menards.

I'll be placing an order for the metal roofing and trim. Then also grabbing the stuff for the soffit. I'll try to get started on that tomorrow as well.

That is going to be one great looking shed, that will last forever!
The old one was 40 years old, so hopefully that long.
How much trouble is that to carefully pour the concrete without backsplash on the new wood?

Do you have a Mixer or a place local that sells by the yard to place in their tip trailers?
I have a mixer at my disposal. It belongs to the neighbor but he has told me that he knows where it is.

Not sure if going to do bags, (fifty 80lb bags) or ordering a pre-mix truck. Figuring the cost at that amount vs. minimum load charge.
