Here's my rendition. Half completed ATM, still have to hang the other shelf on the other side of the garage, plus lag them to some slotted angle attached to the ceiling. Apparently my builder skimped on materials and decided to use less studs and instead screw in a whole sheet of OSB then drywall overtop. Had to anchor some 2x4's in so the self would sit on them.

Oh, and the Paulin Saw Tooth construction screws I used to attach the planking on top is the shizznit, grabs almost instantly!

(Yes, my Athol is still in pieces waiting for its electrolysis dip)

When you are ready to buy cabinets, head to IKEA - they are always on sale....I bought 2 to set my workbench on. They work great...the big ones on the wall I got from there too. Don't mind the messy garage, it is still in mid transformation....

I will go check out Ikea soon, I know the local one is always blowing out their kitchen stuff for some reason.

You should add one above garage door for longer term storage.

Yep. Planning on adding one after I complete everything. The problem I see with a shelf above the door is that since my garage ceiling is fairly low I won't have a lot of room to store things in. Will ponder some more.

OK, I'll add my $.02 here. I have no relationship with this vendor, I just happened to be walking thru the local flea market at the NC State Fairgrounds, and saw this booth. Stopped, chatted, grabbed the flyer. Don't know pricing, etc. on anything. But my initial impression of the design was good.

How much height do you have from the garage door tracks to the ceiling? Could you make the shelf frame out of slotted steel to gain more vertical clearance and then use another vertical support in the center? Between that and 1/2 plywood as the shelf decking it looks like you'd still have enough room to put a row of storage bins like these from walmart up there.

~18". I could make it out of steel, we'll see how much stuff I can store on these two shelves.

Completed the remainder of the supports today and installed the braces, will start clearing the garage and loading the shelves tomorrow. :rocker:

Ended up buying a new grinder as well, my old one went up in smoked halfway through cutting the angle iron. The Makita is very, very nice for $70. I love the paddle switch and it just oozes quality.
