I picked up a 90s JVC reciever/CD off craigslist and was able to get the Cerwin Vega speakers from a friend who's wife wanted them gone! I run my iPod in on occasion through the aux input;)

The whole setup is WAY louder than anything I need... but it was a welcome addition over my tabletop radio! Great for working out and fun for blasting music!

LOL, I still have my university days system, a Sony amp with a pair of Yamaha 12's, that have been relegated to the basement. I either need to claim the basement and build myself a man-cave, or I may use them in the garage.

Off topic, but the guy responsible for that Audioslave cover recently died. If I remember right, they sculpted the flame thing full size and set it up on an island off the coast of Africa. The same designer also did the cover art for Dark Side of the Moon and (I think) Houses of the Holy.

Here is mine. I had an "old" receiver that was obsoleted when I built my home theater because of the need for HDMI inputs/outputs.

The speakers were my wife's from the "dormroom period"... since then my high end speakers went into the home theater, and hers were relegated to the garage.

The Harman/Kardon head unit. This thing has some juice, more than the speakers can handle if pushed. Also more than enough to have music pumping throughout any garage activity, even machining, welding, or forging! It's also hooked up to the garage computer so that there is no shortage of music options.

Soffit storage also houses a pair of serviceable Kenwood speakers.

I'm no Jack Olsen... my garage has been cleaner than this before, but not much! Chronic space shortage! You can see the soffit speakers in the background.

My garage system isn't much that's exciting. An old Technics receiver I got for free and a pair of Teac speakers left over from an old all-in-one system. I have lots of Hi-Fi gear and am happy with this setup since it sits on one 'shelf' above my workbench and doesn't take up a ton of space. I also like the volume control slider on the receiver. I don't have a photo since it's really not particularly exciting. I mostly listen to talk radio and podcasts of talk radio in the garage.

Storm Thorgerson who was one of the key players in Hipgnosis. Did more than just the cover for Dark Side of the Moon, but lots of Pink Floyd. I have a poster for Atom Heart Mother in my "listening room." He did Houses of the Holy, Presence and In Through the Out Door for Led Zeppelin. He's got a pretty impressive collection of covers and even did some work on music videos. He died of a stroke at age 69 in April.

Album art is so awesome. You never know how much work went into it.

I have a Harman Kardon in my office above my garage...the airplay is really easy and nice to be carrying my phone and streaming to the stereo to change volume or tunes on the fly. Ceiling Speakers and a Yamaha sub tucked in under the shelf there.

I had almost the same exact JVC unit but I traded it to my dad for a lesser JVC unit when I upgraded my unit in the home theater....here's the one going in the garage when I get the cabinets built to keep it out of the dust of creation. I have in-wall speakers wired for the garage.

That's nice. I used to run a cd boombox but lost it when I moved. I was more or less satisfied with physical media and just playing a cd versus a "mix".

If anyone wants to do what op did you can can get old electronics pretty cheap from a thrift store (like savers). Around 10 bucks a piece, so maybe 30 bucks total with speakers (if they have them). They usually have those rotary cd players (with multiple disks) not sure how well they'd work now though (gotta check what you buy).

I can't tell what size those CV's are, but I have the 10 inch version and like your friend's wife, my wife had wanted me to get them out of our family room for years. She finally wore me down and I moved them out to the garage. I just have to hook them up.

My old junker sounds pretty good considering it's probably the cheapest system ever, the amp is a sony MHC-C33 I got for free from someone I think it puts out something like 42 watts, the sony CDP-292 CD player was a gift, the old 8 track is a realistic TR-883 I bought for 2 bucks from a thrift shop, what makes it sound amazing is the somewhat legendary dynaco A-25 speakers I found at a thrift shop for a hefty 2 bucks, I found a website dedicated to the restoration of dynaco A-25s they sound pretty amazing, the speakers they're sitting on are some no name brand.

I have close to the same system, technics receiver.I too have had it since college. Was proud as a peacock, and of course put it all on the cc. Had a carousel six disk changer that gave up the ghost years ago. Still sounds good but seldom gets to stretch its legs. To old to get that fired up anymore, lol.,

I currently have a Ol' 78 or 79 realistic receiver with older jamo speakers, I'll try to get a pic soon.

I had a $200 something dollar pioneer receiver that went out last year (6 or 7 years old) and my friend gave me this Ol' realistic receiver that he hasn't used in a decade or so, I was blown out of the water when I first heard it! It brought me back to late 80's early 90's when I had friends that had Hi-Fi equipment, it had that 3d type sound, I think most of them where tube set-ups given to them from the parents old "outdated systems".

To any Audiophiles out there I have a question?

I was reading in the (hot deals) section about the new pioneer speakers on sale and got to thinking that when I first hooked my receiver up it sounded a lot different using FM before I bought a cable for my computer to use Pandora(tired of listening to the same stations). I just hooked my FM antenna up and it sounds So much better, it's a lot better imaging/3D it amazes me.

Is digital internet that much different then FM or is it because my receiver is just so old(over 3 decades), anyone that can hear half way good would be able to tell the difference.

I also notice the main FM station I listen to (classic rock) still uses vinyl/records, I can hear the scratching at beginning and end of song sometimes, could that also be why it sounds So much better?

....

The digitization schemes they use for audio streamed over the Internet is heavily compressed to save bandwidth, so it sounds like ****. Get an HD Radio receiver and you'll realize how good FM radio can really sound.

Looks like we all have a different idea of what a "Garage" is used for. :)
The welding, grinding and painting I do would ruin any of the systems shown in a few months with the **** I stir up working in my garage. I have a cheap Wal-Mart $20 radio I stick in the corner for some music and as a burglar deterrent. Throw away and replace about once a year.

I'll have to snap some pics of my current junk. Lots of early 90s Pioneer receivers (I switch them out periodically) and a set of 6x9s and a powered 12 currently.

I "upgraded" mine to some more **** I had laying around the house. The Pioneer now sits atop a Cerwin Vega SW-12B and the fronts are CV-D3s. Backs are the old Pioneer 10" 3-ways that originally served the front.

I dont have pics of mine and all my stuff is packed up waiting on the new garage, but here is what I have. I have a Technics 110Wx4 receiver hooked up to 2 JBL 12" 3 way speakers. I also have 2 Yamaha outdoor speakers for the outdoor parties. The receiver has an A/B switch so I can decide where I want the music. I stream Pandora or MP3's off of a tablet.

Nothing too crazy, but I have a 36" soundbar I just mounted yesterday. It has a wireless remote, AM/FM, AUX in, and bluetooth connectivity (so I can play audio from my phone). It has pretty clean bass and treble, I'm really happy with it for $85 shipped from Amazon

How do you keep everything clean? My garage always gets so dusty. Maybe it's just because I'm in SoCal (in a new development that's still in it's build out stage). After a month, the top of my cabinets have a thick layer of dust. That's why I don't have a computer/electronics equipment in there. :( Imagine what a keyboard will look like after a few weeks.
