How does that sound? I am curious. The theory of a speaker enclosure is to dampen the sound off the rear of the cone. I think it would sound a lot better if your isolated the the rear of the cones with speaker damping material.

I guess it depends how much of a purist you want to be in your garage.

With speakers like that (car), the purpose is to separate the front wave from the back wave. "Infinite baffle" speakers can sound very good.

4 speakers =/= 4 channels. It's stereo for 2 channels.

Any advantages you'd see in channel separating the baffle on the back side (especially given a system with the limited displacement of the speakers pictured) would quickly disappear since you're listening to the speakers on the front side in a common space any way.

Most rear speakers in a car share the same baffle space with minimal interference.

The amount of crosstalk is directly proportional to the the volume of the baffle space and the displacement of the speakers. In this case, it won't matter.

Thanks. I used a husky 3 drawer toolbox. I removed the drawers and drilled out the rivets of the slides. I ordered some micca mb42 bookshelf speakers from amazon along with a lepai lp2020a+ amp. I extended the bass, treble, and volume potentiometers and mounted them where the husky logo used to be. I then swapped out the cheap plastic chrome knobs for some metal guitar knobs I found on ebay. I reused the port tubes, wiring, and banana plugs from the bookshelf speakers in the new box. internal airspace dimensions are the same as the original bookshelf boxes. Built the internal box out of 3/4mdf and used poplar for the face. Cut the speaker and port holes with a jasper jig and a router. It has a standard stereo input and is powered by my ipod for now. I may add a bluetooth module soon, but im broke for now.

I just stripped the paint and left it raw so it will develop a nice patina. I may eventually clear coat it.

I finished mine up about a month ago. I would like to hide the wires some more, but it's more work than I want to do. That is a firewall and I can't get above it to drill down into it.

Yeah you are right........those speakers, that amp. What does it matter

At least it is a vented design right??!!

Finished my husky toolbox boombox. It turned out pretty nice. I still need to add an external power switch and pick up a battery/charger to make it completely portable.

about 15 years ago I bought this 1962 stereo HI-FI at a thrift shop for dirt cheap(less than $20 I recall). my plan was to restore it but when I got into it it seemed like it would be to expencive to do it right, so I put it aside. fast forward to last Christmas..my 2 sisters in law went in together and got me a nice record player. it can even plug into my computer to download my records and I I got hundreds of 'em. I had the idea an went to a couple stores until I found a small CD player stereo. I gutted the whole HI-FI and made a new base and mounted the record player and CD player in the top. trashed the speakers and mounted the new ones in the bottom. it sounds great and w/ the lid closed it just looks like an old stereo

the stereo & dvd player is in the box, T.V on the other wall
2 speakers in the wall the center will on top of the box, and two more speakers on stands next to the roll up door

I bought a cheap Sony shelf system, 2 small bookshelf speakers and a sub. It has a CD player and an iPod dock, both very necessary since the radio stations around here are worthless. Hid the sub in the workbench and put the speakers up on a shelf. Doesn't sound amazing(compared to the in house system) but plays loud and sounds good enough for the $100 that I paid for it.

It is a Denon AVR 4802-R

Kind of a dinosaur now, but it was "state of the art" in its day (about 2001).

It definitely has the power to rock the place as a stereo receiver.

im running a sony fm cd car stereo with some random junk yard speakers and to get reception i have a car antenna attached to the side of the shed.for power i used a 12 volt power supply similar to a cell phone charger that had a 12 volt output. works great

I have a Sherwood 200w stereo receiver. With two 5 1/4" proficient speakers and a 12" Sony sub. Sounds awesome. It is ran through the TV. So I can play all the audio through HDMI on my phone and have the TV to see if I get a message or a call while laying on or under something.

Nice! the older Denons were real powerhouses, nice discreet amps-not chip/OP amps like today's 5 pound receivers. The NHT are also great budget speakers. I'm sure the garage sounds great!

Yes. I have a full set of front L-C-R, sides, rears, from an old installation in a house we sold some years ago.
