Well I've been lurking for a while now and finally bit the bullet and began the garage transformation.

Soon after buying our first house I tackled fixing the electrical in the garage (talk about a hack job from the previous owner!) added outlets, insulated the exterior walls and began sheetrocking. Unfortunately other priorities and projects halted the garage completion.

This week though I decided to make some headway on the garage and with the help of my father in law laid down some EpoxyMaster 100% solids coating (From Costco). See photos below.

Also picked up mud/tape and have been researching storage options.

Right now I'm leaning towards using some ClosetMaid Maximum Load shelving units. It appears to be able to support the kind of loads I hope to store on them (soda/beer from Costco runs, camping equipment, brewing supplies, tools, etc), is fairly affordable and allows for moderately deep shelving which most wall cabinets do not allow (most are only 12" deep and don't hold much weight).

A few questions:
  1. How long before I can begin moving things back into the garage? (e.g. rolling tool box, shelving unit, etc)
  2. Do tire mats like these (http://www.carguygarage.com/csm-tm-4.html) work for parking the vehicle on to minimize the risk of lifting with hot tires?

Looking great!

Is this the epoxy master without the top clear coat?

How did you like working with the product? did you find it covered what was promised on the box?

Thanks for posting!

that looks great how long did it take you to do ?

Prep took a few hours spread over a few days. Emptying the garage, shop-vacing, pressure washing, scrubbing some stains, etching.

The actual epoxy took less then 3 hours with 2 people. We mixed up a small batch and cut in with paint brushes then split the remaining parts into two and did one half at a time so we weren't as rushed. Went pretty well.

EpoxyMaster as far as I know doesn't have a 'clear' coat - it's a one step (well minus flecks and anti-slip) system. But yes it's EpoxyMaster from Costco.

Worked out pretty well - covered nicely, a few spots where I must not have etched the floor as well and it didn't cover as nicely but I'm the only one who will notice those spots. So far, very happy with it. I did add more flakes though as I preferred that more flaked look.

Spent the last few weeks finishing the walls, texturing, priming/painting, adding shelves, etc - now the garage is mostly back together. Ceiling will have to wait until the winter.

Here is an after photo (need to sweep up the sheetrock dust off the floor - then it'll shine again like usual)
