Well I picked up a tv today. It is a 42" LG LED with a year left on the best buy service plan. Got a great deal on it. I also picked up a couple directv HD DVR's for a good price too. Went and got a wall mount for the tv built a shelf for my receiver, DVR, and a computer. Don't mind the mess but here is a pic.

Great to hear you picked up a good used TV. The tv I have is a hand me down from a guy at work. I'd love to have a nice big flat screen out in the garage but it's not financially in the cards at this time. Besides the wife would kick my **** if I bought a new TV that was bigger than the one in the house. I'd prefer to pick my battles, new one for the house and move the old one from the house to the garage.

Love to see so many more people putting TV's in the garage. My favorite though is seeing what is on the screen whenever you snap the photo.... Jeff (Semper Fi) and.....what are you watching? ha

I have five TV's in the garage since it doubles as my play room/bar. Four of them are free hand me downs of the CRT variety and one an LED LCD. Temperature hasn't been a problem at all with it or the LED monitor for the computer.

We are all getting screwed though since my cable company has been moving channels to digital-only meaning my old TV's are being phased out. Can't get Big Ten Network and a few other major channels so I'm looking at getting a few more modern TV's with a digital tuner. Pretty po'd though that I'm paying for channels that I can no longer get on 5 of my TV's!

Looking at Tiger Direct, local stores, and Craiglist for replacements. Kinda scared to get a Criagslist TV though. Spending some money I don't have on something that has no warranty or any idea of its true condition worries me.

That is why I really liked the fact the TV I got still has a yaer left on its service plan.

This is our TV in a wasted space above the stairs - I built a good strong shelf and paid three beers to lift it up there. We spent some Family Day time out there watching TV while teaching our kids about reclaiming screws, nuts and such from broken items... good way o teach the young ones to use tools.

Check on the manufacturer's web sites - they often list operation temp ranges.

That said, I have an older Sony WEGA tube type TV in my shop - and after lifting the 300lbs of joy 5.5ft - it stay there until it is dead...

I've had a 36" HD-Ready Sony XBR400 sitting in my garage since the day I moved into my house, 01/01/2011. It doesn't work, but I'm pretty sure the tube is good, and that the issue is something with the circuitry. Before it "died", it used to take hours to come on. The first time it happened, I turned it on, thought it was dead and then it came on several minutes later. Over the course of what I would guess to be the next year, it just took longer and longer to power up. I don't know what to do with the dam*ed thing. I had the thing for over 10 years and never had an HD signal hooked up to it, which seems like a huge waste.

This is where I mounted mine. And I didn't mount it there so I could watch it while running the lathe It just so happened that my cable connection was in the corner and I had enough to run it over to where the TV is at. I can see it from anywhere in the garage. There's times when momma will come down and have a beer and watch the tube in the garage with me. We've set in there for a few hours watching TV instead of going in the house watching TV. Just the different atmosphere I guess.

When I'm ready for a TV in the barn I'm taking the 63" out of my Family room and replacing it with a 70". The 63 is 6 years old but still looks great!

Can't go too much bigger on that wall. It's amazing how much a room size makes a difference. That does not look over powering or too large for the room looks great and as always bigger is better

The one that's there now is just about 63" wide but has that large picture frame wrap around the edge - the newer ones have almost no edge and the 70" I was checking out at Costco was only 63" wide. Should be fine.

The room is 20x20 and when we first got it I thought it was too big, but now I LOVE it! :D

BTC if you have a Best Buy near you they will recycle your old TV for free. I've dropped off tv's, vcrs, etc at my local one up here in the Twin Citites. As for me my first TV will be a TV/monitor for the computer before going to something bigger for the entire garage.

Boss........I noticed the Sandy Hook wall hanging. Not to pry but do you have kids that went there? You don't have to answer if you don't want.

Thanks. Getting it to Best Buy would be the hard part. The set weighs about 300lbs, and I'm no spring chicken anymore. Not that I could ever handle this beast by myself, but I don't even like to think about trying to move it. I'm not sure what Sony was thinking, but the case doesn't even have handles.

Yes, thank you. Fortunately mine are now 16 & 18 and weren't there when it happened. The sign was a gift that had been standing in the corner for almost a year - it went up on the wall 5 days prior to the shooting.

It was a great school filled with wonderful people.

Isn't it odd that you would decide to do that as wall art and now it has more of a significant meaning than just wall art? Now that small wall hanging has just became a large piece of remembrance every time you look at it. :(

I've had two different neighbors put TV's in their garages (both 32" LCD) so now I have the bug to do so. I want something bigger like a 40" or so since the 32's look so small out there. I'm looking at at bartering or seeing what I can find used. I'm sure I'll then find a good receiver to boost the sound a bit.

Large CRT sets go for $35 at the local Habitat For Humanity ReStore. Our local store usually has three or four that look to have good displays. Of course, if you can find one for free, even better!

Now you will have absolutely no reason to leave the garage, get a lazy boy in there too. I'll be honest, I think it will sidetrack you a lot.

I have a 42" plasma in the garage. It doesn't distract me too much, mostly have it turned to a ballgame or race and look up when something cool happens.

Sidetracked ? Sometimes, going to the garage is just a reason to get out of the house. Why not make the place enjoyable and relaxing.

I always have neighbors coming over in the summer if they see me in the garage working. The only rule is that they do not come empty handed. Now if one stops by with a beer we can watch a ballgame or a race and drink a beer. My garage is a place for me to work on my stuff and enjoy myself and unwind. I worked with a guy in the garage before and he couldnt even listen to the radio while working. the silence was killing me haha.

The silence would kill me too. The day that my radio died, I was out looking for a new one.

Semper Fi!

I think that was Adult Swim during one of my late night designing sessions.

Here's mine.

Just a small LCD TV with a Roku box, feeding a Klipsch speaker system.

Sounds pretty good for a garage TV, and I use it a lot for Pandora (an app on Roku).

If only that space were as clean now as it was recently in that picture... :)

I have an old 21" sony tube type hooked into DishNet box. I also use the same Dish receiver box in my Airstream when traveling.

Over here....
I'd be fearful of an errant socket on an impact or a part breaking off from a hammer swing hitting the screen.

If I had one in there, it would have to have a plexiglas or lexan screen to cover it just in case.

But my ol' place ain't surgeon's OR type garage. It's a hot gritty place to work on cars and woodworking projects. I can't see bringing the world out there to the very place I want to go to in order to get away from it.

JMHO.

Put my old 36" CRT up on a heavy duty corner shelf. Painted 2 coats of flat clear over the screen to eleminate the glare from the bare bulbs. Works great.

I was going to go with a projector, but my wife totally killed that idea, and after I started thinking about it more I realized while it would be awesome, there potentially could be stuff in the way depending on what's in the garage at the time.

I picked this up off Amazon while it was on sale for $500. Its going to be corner mounted above my workbench so it should be viewable from almost anywhere.
