I posted pics of my building in another thread, but here are updated pics. Next to be done is vinyl siding and water lines run to the shop. Oh, it's 40x35.

Holy **** that is a huge door. Nice place. I like the extended concrete pad idea. I should have done that.

HAHA. Yea, it's big (16x14) - I wanted the option to park an RV in there in the event that I ever had one. The other door on the front is 12x10 and the one on the back is 8x8. I have 10ft of concrete on each side of the shop and 20ft in front. When I do the drive, it will be asphalt and I will have an additional 10-15 more in front with a circle drive.

I wish I had found this site before I started the project because the left side ceiling is only 11ft and that is where I wanted to put a 2post lift. It seems that all of the lifts that I have looked at require a 12ft ceiling. So it looks like I will have to put the lift on the right side which will prevent me from ever parking an RV in there.

Not true. Rotary makes a LC model (Low Ceiling). Check it out here:

http://www.rotarylift.com/products/...=Two-Post&CAT=Professional Automotive Service

or brochure here:

http://www.rotarylift.com/library/post/marketingMaterials/14.pdf

You could get a LC model with the EH option (Extended Height) to bring you up to 10'-9" celing height requirement.

The only downside is that it's a 7K lb. lift. Not a big deal unless you lifting heavy vehicles.

Thanks bmw - I'll check that out.

Very nice looking building. I really like all the extra concrete that you put on the outside. I am putting a 4-foot sidewalk all the way around my pole barn.

What is that little room for on the back of the building? I'm guessing it might be for a compressor?

Yes, the room on the back is for my compressor and whatever else I can fit in there for storage. I now wish that I had made that area a little bigger.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Man nice garage, that thing is huge!

Do you know if those doors need to be windloaded or not? Are you near the coast?

I saw that your located in Georgia. River rock is in Milledgeville. It's really just a bunch of insane obstacles. I'm going to tellico in two weeks then home for two then head out for eastern jeep safari. You can read up more on River Rock at riverrockorv.com

***Sorry to hijack the thread***

I envy the land you have to play with.

The big door is 16x14 and I will have to get back to you on the manufacturer. I was going to go with a rollup door, but my door guy suggested going with a new commercial type panel door as the wide rollup doors tend to derail with wind.

I don't remember how many yards of concrete I used. I had the pad poured when our house was built about 3 years ago. I do know that the 40x35 pad that the shop is built on is 5-6" thick of 3k+ psi mix. The surrounding concrete is 4" standard mix (10ft on either side and 20ft in front).

There are no special considerations, that I am aware of, for windloading in my area. I do not live near the coast. However, at the recommendation from my door man, I am going with a commercial panel door instead of a rollup. According to him the wider rollup doors tend to de-rail in high wind.

After looking through a lot of the wood framed garages posted here I think I like the layout of this one the best. Did you build it from stock plans or did you have them custom made for you?

Thanks
William...

I found a plan on the internet that was as close to what I was looking for and modified it to be what I wanted. I looked for months before I settled on this one. The plan called for 12x8 and a 12x14 doors - I changed it to 12x10 and 16x14 doors which required some creativity with the roof pitches to make it not look like a skyscraper. I also built it on a square pad - the plan had one side offset. I can point you to the plan on the internet if you'd like.
