I'm curious... are the seals a washer or o-ring on the female end, and where have you been able to find the replacements?
Theyre a unique washer. Its wider than a typical hose washer so it contacts the male *** and seals it when it is inserted into the coupler.

As to availability, I used to get mine at Lee Valley, but last time I was in, they had no replacement washers.

I've used the basic plastic gardena ones for decades. Yes, the quick couplers are missing peices due to dropping them, but they still do what they are supposed to do. Change orings every couple of years (normal off the shelf size) works for me.
I had plastic Gilmour ones for years, including 1/4 turn valves. One day I was walking back to my garage and just happened to witness the valve body as it broke in half and started gushing water. If it had happened while I was at work or at night it would have flooded my yard. I only run brass ones now.

Let me tell you about my experience, I've been using Eley fittings, they are brass, now a lot of hoses out there like flexilla (that's what I have) have aluminum ends. I found out the hard way, my expensive Eley fittings welded themselves to the hose. Had to break them to get them off. I've since added an SS adapter between the two. So why does the hose industry make aluminum fittings when most water fittings are brass :(

Why? Because aluminum is 1/4 the cost of brass. Brass ends are a deal breaker for me and hoses ! Also watch out for brass "coloured" ends, Ive seen them made from both zinc and aluminum on name brand $$$ hose as well!

Just make sure you DO NOT buy the ones from Harbor Freight. I went through two packs of them, and none of them lasted an entire season before leaking.

I still like the idea of quick disconnects, but for now I've gone back the old way because it's still less frustrating than dealing with the Harbor Freight duds.

I like the Gardena ones. They have both a plastic and aluminium version. These are the 'original' hose connectors, are made in Germany, and work really well. My Parents have had these (plastic ones) for around 30 years, and they are still going strong, which is amazing.

These are not 'full flow' if that is important to you. I have both these and the Eley ones. The Eley ones are 'heavier duty' for places you need a lot of flow, but the Gardena ones work better and are higher quality for places where max flow is not critical.

I've had ok luck with the brass HF QDs. The seals fail, but they're cheap consumables that tend to last me ONE season.

The Eley's still look big to me. I wouldn't be sdo concerned about the. o-ring, it's easy to replace.

But I am still using the ones linked above. Made in USA and mine are years old. I've had to file a male down when hammering from my presuure washer mushroomed it and it was hard to connect. After a couple of years....

:+1: This. I've used these here in Phoenix for a decade or more. They are absolutely worth every penny, and I will use nothing else.

I just buy whatever Lowe’s, Home Depot has.

They aren’t rocket science, and haven’t had a bad one yet

I remove them in the winter, though, so the faucet drains.
