Swan hose isn't the hose it used to be after being bought several times. Ownership included Dayco at one point and they manufactured for many brand names over the years.

The last company that bought them (that I knew of) wanted to destroy the Swan name to make their name better.

I've gone to buy all hoses, air, garden, power washer, from Flexzilla.

I have two, a flexzilla and some "heavy duty" rubber one from Canadian Tire that I got 15 years ago. They obviously will kink if you pull a loop into them, but they don't stay kinked if you straighten them back out. I often will fold the hose in half (purposely kink it) and put a knee on that so I can change from nozzle to sprinkler without turning off the water, has never caused an issue.

The problem I run into is the weight .... the heavy duty don't kink -- but they weigh a ton. Just too heavy .... Another reason I miss sears. They had a rubber and aqua blue hose --- both great. The black rubber was not round it was like a hexagon and the aqua was just heavy enough. Great for a car was hose ... the black went on all the reels.

I have 3 50' rubber hoses from the mid 90's that are still in great condition almost kink free. They do make your hands black when putting them away now though. I use the adjustible spray pattern trigger type nozzles, they last a couple of years and usually get wrecked from dropping them on the driveway. I also had a "kink proof" hose. It didn't kink but also didn't straighten out when using it. I threw it out as it was incredibly frustrating to use. I'd rather deal with kinks, if you know it's a kinker you'll use it accordingly to prevent kinks. :)

I bought a 50' garden hose from Walmart last summer. Now it's getting "*****". I get about 4 or 5 kinks on that hose. I use the hose mostly for washing my cars. Which garden hose is best and doesn't do any kinks? Also which nozzle is best for a car wash?

Thanks
Ayuh,..... Hoses kink, because those usin' it, don't take the twists out of it, when takin' off, or puttin' it onto it's hanger,.....
Pay attention to the twists, 'n the kinks will go away,.....

I only buy good quality rubber hose now after buying the cheap type for years. I did find if they got too kinked up to leave them stretched out in the sun for a while helped to coil them up without any problems.

How do you uncoil your hoses? IMO you would have to stand them up like a wheel and roll them out, other wise no matter how good the hose is it will be stressed and end up with weak points that will lead to kinks.

Swan made both of those back in the day. Sad to see a great name get drug in the dirt after mismanagement and corporate buy outs. My last section of "Soft & Supple" Swan hose just got tossed a few weeks ago after being used for 23+ years

The "soft & Supple I had was a light green hose, like a regular garden hose. It no longer lived up to it's name and didn't want to bend easily.

The black hose you have, if it's a really heavy hose, with lines that run down it's length, that was the "208" hose. It was made of all really good rubber almost like automotive hose. It was like a commercial/farm use hose. If I had some of that hose, I would be sad to see it get trashed. . . . probably last long enough to have sentimental value.

I still have a bunch of the black ones .. Sears sold an odd ball 60' one that was great. I have them at my suburban NJ place. They are on the heavy side but nothing like some of the heavy duty sold today .... that are not even as good. The 100' are on reels ...
