Gas Fireplace...adding thermostat

So, I know this isn't exactly for my garage...but I figured you guys are all pretty smart people and might know what I need to do to get a regular thermostat on my gas fireplace in my basement. Right now, it just has a regular switch to turn it off and on, along with a variable rotary knob to increase the fan speed, which I assume is just a dimmer. What I would like to do at a minimum is add a thermostat so the fireplace will kick off once it hits a set point temp. It would be even better to have the fan turn on and off with it as well. I assume this is a pretty simple job(just getting a standard thermostat)..but I just wanted to make sure. I added a few pictures that may or may not help you.

Thanks for your help guys.

I found this pdf, which appears to be the same model that I have. I did a search for the model number inside, and this came up...all the wiring seems to be spot on.

That is a Robert Shaw valve. All you need is a millivolt compatible thermostat. Two leads, it wires directly to TPTH and TH on the valve. You can buy the thermostat at Home Depot, Lowes etc.

As far as the fan goes, if there is no snap disc on it now you might try a magnetic one to the bottom of the firebox if it get hot enough. Probably doesn't get that hot.

Thanks for the info. I do believe there is a thermostat type deal for the fan, because there is a delay when I start the fireplace. Plus, the instructions show one as well. I'll have to play with it and see if it turns off when I flip the switch to the fire.
