Gas flow problem with Miller 211

My Miller 211 isn't flowing gas properly. As soon as I power up the welder (no trigger), I can hear gas flowing out the nozzle, but very slowly, nowhere near what it should be when the trigger is squeezed. Squeezing the trigger has no effect, it just flows that little bit still.

I took the side off of the welder, and checked voltage at the gas solenoid. With the welder switched on, it's 120V AC right away, and again, the voltage doesn't change when I squeeze the trigger.

I have verified that the trigger is signalling the PCB properly with a multimeter.

Any ideas? It's just over 3 years old.

Is the gas solenoid opening and closing(can you hear it click)
Have you had the gun out of the wire drive(to change wire) and the gun is not fully seated?
What flow rate is your regulator set at(cubic feet per hour)?

Start with the tank and regulator. Before attaching regulator crack valve on tank to blast any debris, spider webs, bug, whatever may have moved in while sitting . Remove hose connection at regulator and check for flow and then reconnect and disconnect hose at machine. Spider webs and restrict flow.

Thanks, but why is it flowing out the gun as soon as I power the welder on?

There are two wires that run from one of the boards in the welder that run to the back where the gas port is, one of the two is bad ( board or your gas solenoid). I would call Miller Monday and they will fix you right up.

Got the call yesterday. The board had a stuck relay, so they replaced the board.

The welder is a little over 3 months out of warranty, but they fixed it for free. I just need to pay a small transportation fee of about $40.

Picking it up next week. Can't wait.

Thanks for all the input.

good to hear that miller steps up with tech support and parts. i hope that the new 211's are as good as the old versions. the 211 is the standard in compact welders and the bare minimum to get. i have never been sorry with mine.

There are a lot of companies that could learn a lot from those guys. They have the absolute fastest best easiest way to solve problems ever invented.

I had an ah-ha moment on my 211; the hose assembly wasn't fully seated in the unit. Close visually, but not fully seated.
