Its the 3 ton HF jack. It did lift it but it was so wet, just couldn't get enough traction to get out. On my Kubota the 4 wheel drive is just one rear wheel and one front wheel its not all wheel like I wish it was.
So Jim when was the last time you were in Kansas?

Re: 4,by four,for four

hi bug. we drove hiway 281 from near my house all the way to Lincoln, ne in 2012. wiggly route, but wanted to go thru pratt and see my mothers house. sort of a disappointment. I remember (from about 1953) a nice prairie style home but someone had enclosed the front porch. oh well. I would like to go back to emporia sometime. you know that U-turn south of emporia? we had 3 sections of those flint hills that was only used to fatten texas cattle. they would unload their trucks there and head back down south. the family sold it a few years ago-too many heirs. closest town was olpe, south of emporia.

love the bugs. in 1961 I sold my cherry 56 belair two door hardtop because it only got 19 mpg on the hiway.. then I bought a 58 baby blue vw conv. same mileage! drove that for three years and had a ball. wish I still had both.

oh, and by the way my hf is only a 1 1/2.

Why yes we do. Does this guy own a factory that makes truck bedliners? If so, he probably owns close to 100 cars. Bought a building in town that use to be a Goodyear Automotive Tire store, this is where he keeps most of his collection.

No, but I've helped that guy pick up a couple of cars here in Phoenix and ship to KS. Our customer is another guy, same click though.

Happy 4th of July to all. I try to put my flags out on special days. This is my post rock that is by the road, and my rusty ball of wire.

Love those fence posts.

Wish our place was big enough to allow for that sort of posts.

Did you see my steering wheel I got for the truck over the weekend.

Just looking at your Chevy, it would go well in there too.

At $150 it is not cheap in my book, but I know you understand about having to scratch an itch sometimes.

Have decided to order in my trucks chrome side trim from Mar-K in OKC and get it delivered to Fayetteville as we will be there on the 17th October for Clem's Gathering, rather than drive over just to collect them. I phoned Mar-K last week to enquire about a factory tour, but it is a no, due to insurance reasons etc...... So easier to just order in.

Herb,
I feel bad now, this whole time I didn't think you'd been posting but it turns out I just didn't get the emails for some reason. From the looks of it I should have gone to that swap meet back in Feb. Also those shelving units are awesome and you did them up right. Lastly I hear you on the labor pool around here, I have more to do on my place than I think I'll be able to do in 10 years just to get my task list caught up and I'm sure I'll have more added to it by then. I've tried to convince my youngest brother to come stay the summer and work for me. Between my place, my other brother's over around Tulsa and his father-in-law's place I am sure he would have a full time job all summer, and I'm sure he could be rented out for the right price lol. Sadly he plays summer basketball and has practice and scrimiges pretty much all summer so I don't think he will have any free time this year, oh well.
JB
P.S. I'll be keeping better track of your progress now.

not sure how I hadn't seen this build. But I like your buggy. I am currently working on a 65 chassis with a Spatz fiberglass body on it.

Like you have said, you own one vw you prolly own more. I had 2, but didn't have the room for 2 projects. Still always find myself looking. I may stick with the buggys though, the bettles just don't do nothin' for me.

Rian,
Thanks for stopping by my little post spot. Yeah, I did see the steering wheel, that will look good in your new "old" truck. Is that air brushed on there, or is it that new way that they can dip it in a solution with the picture or I've seen a show where they were doing motorcycle parts and did a camouflage on everything? I think on the 60 Chevy, since its a 4 door, I'm just going to make it a nice dependable driver. I just need to put new wiring harness on the front half, and change it over to a alternator. I did buy a new steering wheel for the 66bug and it cost around $300., so I see no problem with the nice one you bought. And besides it something different that other trucks don't have.
On my flags, I like to put them out. Since my post rocks are part of my fence along the road, they are pretty straight line and it makes the flags look more official. I've had people drive by and stop to take pictures, or they were spying on me?:headscrat
Too bad about the Mar-k not taking the time to give someone that's traveled that far, and the fact you are buying their product. I would think they would look at it as a happy customer, and a future spokes person telling people at car shows how happy you are about the product. But , I can see the insurance thing, its a lame excuse cause they have insurance on vendors that have jobs to do out in the plant.
On to more happy things, are you guys going to the Toy Run? that would be fun and its really pretty the route they take.

I had that problem with a couple of post that I like to yap in, not sure whats going on.
The swap meet is always fun, this year its changed to a Casino. Wife is more happy about that than I am. Won't make any money for sure.
It would be nice to have help around the farm, always something to do even when you don't have money.
I need to keep up on pictures, never a dull moment.

Hi Herb

Of course I need to get some progress in as well, so that I can figure out what else I need to buy while over in the USA in October.

Especially now that Clem has posted up his flyer.

This is one of the big draws for us.

So this is the one we will be attending.

I'm not too familiar with the "Spatz" bodys, were are they made? Are you going with a full body buggy or the shorter one? Mine was built by a guy that owned a foreign car parts store back in 1969, wow that's a long time ago:shocking:
I like just about everything, as you can see with my collection of cars. If I could I would rescue every hedge row victim I find. For people that don't know what a hedge row is I will explain. In Kansas and other states, back in the 20's the farmers had cut all the trees so they could plant more crop. Then the dust bowl came, and the winds were blowing hard, and because there was no trees to buffer from the wind, everything turned black with dust and mud. So they went back and planted trees along property lines and they used trees that were drought resistant like "hedge". OK, more to it than that but that's the Readers Digest version. So the farmers would drag out all the old cars, and tractors and metal junk to hide in the hedge rows. So people like me, will drive in the country trying to find were the farmers hedge rows are, and see what kind of treasure's are there.
Got any pictures of your "Spatz"? Like to see them.

Way to stick with the build even when the first building failed. So after reading your story back in the beginning about the charger hitting the garage door, I have to tell you about my fathers event back in the early 90's.

He was restoring a 66 mustang with the 200 I6 engine for my mom. Going at it for a few years he had the car dismantled from one end to the other. Interior with floor shifter disassembled was a key factor. He was under the hood after just rebuilding the carb and was ready to fire it up and adjust it. This motor had never fired easily due to the carb being full of funk and the choke not working properly. My dad hits the starter button he has hooked up under the hood and low and behold the engine fires immediately, and the choke is working so it goes to high idle instantly. This vibration caused the dismantled floor shifter to fall back into reverse and the car is backing out the garage door dragging him with it. He tried to hold it back, but was only able to make it around to slam the driver door shut before being bent back as it went out the door and backed right into the side of his truck. He has just wrecked 2 cars and wasn't driving either one. To make matters worse, there were 4 large trash bags of aluminum cans sitting behind his mustang for recycling, which were busted open and he had aluminum cans rolling all over the driveway to clean up.

getblown,
That sounds funny now, but I bet mom knew just how scared he was. That's when you wished you had a camera for some funny video's.
Kind of strange to have it jump in gear like that, but strange things do happen around old cars. Thanks for the story, I knew I couldn't be the only one that had a incident with a car and a trailer, or a garage.

polexican,
That's a nice body style, and it looks like what they call the 4 seater. It looks to be the full length pan size. I wish mine was the longer one, its just easier if you want to haul a couple full size people in the back. What year of pan are you going with? The 68 and newer has a better suspension, than the pre 67.
Your body style looks close to mine. I'm not sure who made the shell of mine, I know its not a Myers Manx. I do have some Myers "pods" that go on the side of the shell, they make the buggies look more finished.
Mine is on a 69 pan, so that is what the title says also. I had the roll bar built for it a few years ago. I seen a big puddle of gas under it a couple of years ago, and I haven't had the time to see if its a gas line or if the tank has a hole in it? I hope its just a fuel line so I don't have to remove the body off. They are a lot of fun in the summer time, specially in the evening.

Actually it is a shortened pan. Must be the camera angle. The chassis is a 65 so it is the swing axle. I am looking for pods myself. I also like that look with them.

The motor going in will be a 1776. But time and money aren't on my side right now.

Must be, cause it looks longer in the middle. I'm sure there are companies out there that make the pods. I think mine cost around $500.00 for the pair, then freight on board was another $200.00 I think. They are from Myers Manx, so its kinda cool they came from the originator of the dune buggy.

Well I bought some pallet racks off of CL, I think they will work for what I need them for?
I also been putting up the LED spot lights, I have a bunch of them to install. I've also been putting styro foam in between the 2X6 purlins, hope this will help with the 2 extreme weathers?

A man can never have enough shelving and storage space !!

I am super jealous of your space (you may not have the Queen, but who needs a Queen when you have space.

The polystyrene will make a huge difference.

I can work in my wood shed in snow, and after 30 minutes with the heater on to break the cold and warm my machines a bit, I can switch it off and work in T shirt and overall.

You are moving right along on those LED lights Herb. I'm interested to see how they light up that space when they are all installed, you'll have to show us a picture of that you know. Also I'm jeleous of that pallet racking, I'd like to get some but know when I do I'll need something to lift those heavy pallets all the way to the top. (Thinking to myself I need to find a forklift so I can justify the pallet racking, or is it buy the pallet racking to justify the forklift...)

JB,
Hey, you ought to bring the family here to the Cowley County Fair. Good clean fun and most of its free to see. The girls would love all the farm animals, and of course the kidde rides. Tonight they have the figure 8 races, my cousin has a car in it. I think he will use the same car in the Demo Derby on Saturday night. They were suppose to have the truck and tractor pull last night but the area was too wet, not sure if they reschedule for maybe Sunday afternoon.
I need to decide were to put the pallet rack? I may have to wait until I have more concrete poured:dunno: no money for that.
I have 2 lights hooked up and they do a nice job, but more is more better:lol: I been waiting on my electrian to stop by.

Herb,
I have a great place for you to store that pallet racking, it'll be on concrete, under roof and be put to good use just to help out a friend you know. :lol_hitti

If I weren't working 60 hr weeks and now most weekends I'd be willing to give you a hand. The worst part is I don't even get overtime because of being salary. I'm way behind on everything at home right now sadly.

We are having my family over for a birthday party today when I get off of work so maybe I can convince them to head up there tonight for the demo derby. That should be a great present for a 4 year old girl right?

Re: 4,by four,for four

Thanks JB for the offer to help out with the storage of the pallet rack. In fact I wish I knew you were interested in some Pallet racking, I came across a guy that had some on CL that had about 100' X 10 or 12' tall. We could of went in 1/2 and we both would of made out OK. Mine appears to be 2 different sizes in length, I think one is 10' and the other is 12' lengths, of course I can cut it up or down.
I think tonight is the figure 8 races, I thought it was last night. They had "demo derby" last night, will put some pictures up later when I can add more of the fair stuff.
Oh yeah, that would be a nice birthday party. I don't know if you have ever been to our fair, but I must say its pretty decent and its well maintained and pretty safe for all ages. Its a small enough fair and still has some attraction's that state fairs would have. Plus its "FREE" admission, but the rides and shows you have to pay for. They have nice rides for the little kids, and I'm sure the girls would be smillin:D
OK, maybe I'll run into you later tonight?

Bugthug,
We ended up having a lot going on at home and didn't make it to the fair, something about little kids wanting to play with their BDay presents rather than leaving them at home to go to a fair. I'd be interested in some pallet racking, but not sure how much I could actually use for the time being.

They must of got some good presents. I hope they aren't playing with the box by now.
I need to get it off my trailer and laid out to see just how much I have. Between the rain, trying to put up lights ,and mowing the yard and doing, maintaince on the tractors I just haven't done that yet. Let me see what I have, and if I can't use some and I have some left.

As I say in my thread quite often, keep moving forward, it will eventually get done but just takes time. I have a lot going on as well and my shed time has been cut short lately because of everything under the sun, but I'm slowly knocking off the next project. If you could spare some of the racking I'd love to take some off of your hands, but don't short yourself.

Hey JB, been busy as a bee. I have some pictures to post when I get some time. My brother in law from Tampa is here for a few days and he's been helping me paint some of the garage floor. Big job, big mess:D. OK back to the barn I go E I E I O:thumbup:

well I've been busy, just don't seem to get much done. I've been putting up insulation 1 1/2 Styrofoam. It is easy but a lot of measuring to get it to fit tight into the 2 X 6 stringers on the barn.
Had the help of my brother in law, cleaning the floor and doing most of the painting. This is a Sherwin Williams paint, its a 2 part paint. I have used 2 other types of paint on garage floors, not sure which one I would recommend.
The SW paint needed a good 3 coates. They recommended a 3/8 nap but it looks like waves of the ocean, and was hard to roll out without leaving roller marks. Went with a 1/4 nap and it seemed to help. I really like the color but it is dark. The color reminds me of a Texaco or Sinclair colors.
The 30W L.E.D's, I have about 30 put up on the ceiling and along the top of the 2 X 12 around the roof. I only have about 6 of them going, they put out a very nice light but I may not need so many. I'm still experimenting with the position and the spacing of them.

I went to the big county fair a couple months ago, my cousin was a driver in one of the figure 8 cars. He got ran into the cement wall pretty hard, and he flipped it upside down once. For people around the world that can't believe the crazy Americans do to running cars.
