For those that don't follow my thread as well, I reworked some of the brake problems he was having and rebuilt the exhaust after the down-pipe. I also tuned the carb a bit and adjusted the timing which were both things I couldn't do when it was here last. I took it for a test drive just before the above photo and the only real issue now is the brake shoes need some adjusting, (hopefully that is all it is) then we can take it for a longer test drive.

Here is my latest acquisition. 1972 VW Squareback Wagen.
As you can see it has a Puerto Rico plate.
Here is how the story goes. When my now wife was married to her starter husband ( first husband), they bought this wagen in 1974. Yada yada, it was her car and she drove it to work daily. Then then the starter husband found a new model, women, then divorce. My wife, walked away and left him everything. He told her that if she ever wanted the car back he would give it to her.:headscrat
Now 40 some years later, she called him up and said she wanted the wagen back.:bounce: He said OK, no problem. We arrange for a shipper from San Juan to Jacksonville, Fla. to Kansas. Three weeks later, we have a wagen.:thumbup::thumbup:
He did keep it up and in very nice condition. I like it, and something you don't see too many of here in the US.

Just a quick copy and paste,

Thanks Herb.

We got to Herb “BugThug” late in the day in Winfield, much later than planned, but it kinda worked in our favour as it forced us to book into a motel overnight at 10.00pm and only go see JB Math the next day.
JB had said we could pitch at his shop from 04.00am which I knew to be the truth as I often chat to him on Messenger at 03.00 USA time

Meet Herb.

Zippo lighter?

Herb is a bit (read lot) of a collector.

Kansas Sunset.

This was only the time we got out to Herbs shop to start looking at his treasures.

Craig had spent an hour sorting his and wife Luz’s IT and mobile phones.

Just old metal........

Nothing of value here.

Time to meet a big ****.

Eventually we left Herbs place and hit the motorway again, really wanting to stay with him and Luz as they had invited us, but we needed to gain some mileage.......

We eventually found a tired roadside motel at Newkirk, tired ourselves we booked in and went for dinner.

SONIC !!!

Filled a hole, that’s about it.

Right.......

We chose as little option but this was the “Free coffee” in the room, and no, did not drink it.

Classy.

Ablutions

Secure bathroom.

Then early morning, while cleaning the Dually windscreen, Craig hit his toe on a kerbstone in the dark.

Medical 101

And then we headed out to JB Maths.

Looks like it was a fun stop. Something I've started doing on road trips is counting giant ***** people have erected in their yards. It is amazing how many there are around if you are looking. :)

My helpers failed me. My two cousins which are brothers were suppose to unload my trailer. But the jackasses are mad at each other and didn't want to be around each other. I'm going to call the guy that did my concrete who has 2 sons that were good workers, and pay them to come over to unload my trailer. I will get down there this week for sure and pick up the coffin cruiser.
I call you in a couple days so we can get on the same page of life:thumbup:

That works for me, if all else fails I could cruise it up your way when no one is looking. :)

well I have been keeping busy, don't care what rumor you heard. I decided to put some old boards up on the ceiling. I came across some cedar fence that was blown over with all the wind we had this summer. Got a good deal on them and they had the look I was after. The bad part was going up and down the scaffold 1000"s of times, also the framing wasn't very straight. I had to custom cut every board, what a pain in the ***. But now that its done I like it. I have plans on putting some of my plates up there, but I do like the look of the ceiling.:headscrat
I have acquired a few plates the last year. Now I have more plates than walls and ceiling to put on.

That has come out really well Herb.

I cannot recall exactly what your collection parameters are for the 666 plates.

We’re they only USA plates, or global?

I went to a old part store, they were having a online auction. Had lots of stuff that had been upstairs for years. I don't like online auctions, my first and last, they take up a bunch of time just bidding then wait and see if you got out bid. Anyway bought way too much stuff, its still on my trailer and I need to get it off and organized.:bounce: yeah right. I have over 100 shockes, 100 rotors, muffler clamps, and mufflers, nuts and bolts standard and metric.

Wow Herb, great turnout on the wall/ceiling coverings. It has come a long way since I helped with the lights. I'm curious if I could talk you out of a couple of plates at some point, you wouldn't even have to deliver them. :)

I agree about the ceiling, a great look. I wouldn't want to cover it either.

The hearse with the -666 plates, you're probably gonna get some exorcists swarming your ride, praying for Mephistopheles to return to Down There.

One of my co-worker friends on Florida fire-rescue had a Cadillac hearse, I believe it was a 1970, w/the 500 cubic inch engine available that year. I had a '70 Eldorado I got from the original family of ownership, the car had 48K miles on it. It hadn't run in years. I got it operational, and sold it to a friend from MI who flew to south FL and drove it back to MI. He had it for awhile, and then sold it to a collector in MI. My friend was a stylist at GM Design and Tech Ctr in Warren MI, and he worked w/a stylist who had worked on that original Eldorado FWD. My friend, like me, is now retired.

I like seeing all those farm auctions and what comes out of them. I live in an urban area, land is $$$ here. Seeing your space available for development is making me envious. The saving grace to my situation is that I don't have much room to collect things so I'm forced to have less, which is probably a good idea.

Oh boy Driftpin. I can only imagine how nice the weather is in Florida. I have a BIL that lives in Tampa. Hes been trying for years to get us to move.
I have given it serious thoughts, even more lately. With health problems, the cold weather doesn't help. I guess what keeps me here is I love Winfield, and I finally have my dream garage after 35 years of collecting, buying and selling and tradin stuff. If I had a few more months of warm weather I think I could get my walls all done and start putting my collection of lifelong collecting. I'm afraid to answer the phone cause I have a fear that someone is doing an intervention, or the hoarding people want to make a new show or commercial for 1-800-junk.
I've had lots of fun with the hearse, and thanks to JB I hope to get it out more next summer. You just don't see very many of the old ones, and even less of original ones that don't have skulls or ghosts all over them. My ghost says they really don't like the attention.:thumbup::thumbup:

OK, now is the fun part. After collecting this stuff for 35 years, I'm finally have my walls done. Now the hard part is where to put stuff, not a decorator. Maybe I need to hire Don to give me some pointers. Anyway this is going to be my PARTS room. I have soooo mush ****:dunno:
Well some of the plates I have like fire truck, fighters etc. I have some model A and T plates, and my flag which is gianormous. It is 6 1/2 X 12 ft tall. 156 plates. I need to take a better picture so you can see the true colors. It was night and they reflect the flash and look weird.

Herb, that is a big flag! Mine is 10'x6', and I thought that was almost too much for the wall!

And it's not ****....the preferred terminology is "good stuff"

My walls and the painted floor, it was pretty cold outside and with my propane heater going full blast I was able to get half done. Not sure if I like this color it sure shows dirt easy.
This stuff on my trailer is from my first and last online auction. Its hard for me to phantom how much stuff I bought when you don't see it the same time you bid on it. I think I might have to take up drinking so I have something to blame it on. But I would probably buy more ****. This was from a old smaller car parts store. After 60 years they decided to close and liquidate. Some of the stuff I got was back in the back up on the second floor. Lots of thick dust, and 15 steps up and 20 steps down. And it got worse as the day went along. I had my trailer way full and the back of the truck full and 5 people in the truck. Of course only one person was under 30, the rest of us are blue hairs:dunno:

OK, my pictures are probably like hard to follow along. But the part store had some cool stuff and LOTS of it. I have 100 boxes of rotors and brakes, I have 75 boxes of shocks, and 6 struts. I have about 25 mufflers, a whole box of the pipe in differ sizes, and muffler clamps. I bought 6,bins of bolts , nuts , washers, and etc. 2 bins of metric sizes. The largest size is 3/4 X6" And the bins were all pretty full, a lot of grade 8, course and fine threads. I would estimate it to weight about 400#s crazy:headshake
this is probably all for today, the weather was up in the 60's today, so I worked long time, back says knock it off!

I don’t understand

Why would you buy all that stuff when 85% of it won’t get used.

Or are you selling online?

Or swap meets?

Love the license plate flag, and of course your wooden ceilings are an absolute winner.

Well Rian its like this, some times when buying stuff at a auction, they will throw in stuff they know nobody bids on. So sometimes you get some weird stuff. I bought a lot of it because it went dirt cheap, and its all new stuff. Some of it is for the older vehicles that is hard to find.
I will trade, sell or sometimes give away.
I had a friend stop by that was looking for a bear license plate, and was wondering if I might have one to give him. He was needing it to give to another friend of his that couldn't find one for his shop. So I went into my 85% license plates and gave him one. These plates are kind of hard to find and they aren't cheap, but I was helping out a friend to help out a fried.
I hope this clears it up for you mate:beer:

Makes me grin.

I have done the same many times before to people’s surprise.

OK I have a question for all you smart people, and JB.:bounce:
I have a couple of the metal bolt bins. I'm looking for a place to buy labels for the different sizes that go in each cubby hole. I need the ones for fine threads, for nuts, bolts etc. I looked at Larson site but did not see that they offered them.
I don't have a printer, and not smart enough to make my own. I might be up for paying someone to make them for me?:dunno:

Do they need to be magnetic? I can print and laminate them for you Herb, just let me know what size you need them to be when done. I probably shouldn't use the fancy label maker at work but that would be ideal.

If I make it work maybe you'll include me with the other smart people, but I doubt that will make up for every dumb thing I've done.

that's one way to get your attention:bounce:
I think the stick on would be fine. I'm not sure of the size of label , I need to go measure it. The metal bins aren't very big like the Larson metal bins are. I have small hands and I can barley get my hand inside to pickup a washer or bolt. Maybe people had smaller hands 50 years ago:)
What I have left is fine thread, and some metric size. I might just text you a picture of whats going on. I'll do that tomorrow
I also have something for you that you can use on the go cart.
Thanks JB, you know I love you man even if youre half my age:lol_hitti
