I was looking at one of the Hard Top Gazebo kits at Sam's the other day. Its one that has the wooden structure and metal roof. Overall its attractive and would fit our outdoor area. I looked online and found a number of ones available in the $1500 range that are similar. It looks like the ones that are less than that use a metal frame work thats not as attractive and probably would rust out in no time. Anyone bought and assembled one of these and how do you like it? I'm thinking in GJ fashion all the wood should be sealed to protect it and might need some better hardware in places.

I bought a gazebo kit from Yardistry and actually painted every piece before I assembled it. That took a couple of days to. (Paint one side let it dry,flip it over and repeat.) Although it came with a light stain & finish I knew from seeing other kits that it would not hold up in the weather and it would be very tedious to paint or restain once it was assembled. It’s been three years and it still looks great.

We’re looking to have our patio resurfaced and expanded and would like a roofed structure, not sure if cabana is the right word here, built. We initially thought about a pergola, but a roofed structure would probably be more useful for more days of the year. We got a quote for the concrete and...

Thats very nice looking. Typical scenario.... Go shopping with the wife, we see something, think its reasonable and doable, start researching it and it goes downhill. So it would be close to the house on 2 sides. Most of the pergola kits have a hip roof (not all) and I started to think about what happens when it rains. The hip is going to shed 4 ways with 2 of them back towards the house. Then I start thinking of adding gutters to solve that problem, and the simple order it and assemble it isnt that simple any more. Going to look at the gable style ones like above that could be tight against the house and have gutters on the side.

I have a friend with a gutter machine, so I made a pair of seamless gutters (yes, aluminum) for it. I ended up not installing them, as I found there was no need to, and I think downspouts will detract from the aesthetic. I can always put them on later if I change my mind.
Understand. My patio has house walls on 2 sides. If I went with a gable style, I would need gutters on at least one side. I also found a single pitch lean to style that may work better.

Yup! See my "Glendora Garage" thread for all the details but yes indeed. It was a LOT of work because I bought the floor model from Costco and they insisted their contractor HAD TO disassemble it even though I wanted to do it.
When I picked it up it was in their employee lunch room in a pile of parts and a box of a million screws with no instructions.

I get email blasts once in awhile where they're around $399, not sure if they're wood or metal. I've thought one would be nice for the outdoor ice rink. I love my local Menards, they have a full page of them and I think you can customize to fit your space.

Mine was originally priced at $1899 at Costco. I bought the floor model for $1200 BUT they would only sell it if their contractor disassembled it for $300. Pissed me off and I got no instructions just a pile of parts and screws.... but I bought it.
Now? The replacement Costco is showing this Spring is priced at $2399. Yikes. I'd have never bought that one.

I am seriously considering the 10x14 they have at sams, about 1400$. It would fit perfectly on my deck, with the hip facing the house still about 8 feet away, so rain is no problem.
