I'm embarrassed to say that the last pics are as far as I've gotten.

I am accumulating fence, in fact I'm picking up a load tonight.

My pressure washer has taken a dump on me. Zero compression, was working fine last year? I need to get it a part and figure out what's going on. I'm hoping it's a broken ring. Any small engine advice would be appreciated!

After a long layoff we've gotten back to work on the shop wall project. My pressure washer took a dump on me. No compression in the engine. I lucked in to another pressure washer that had a good engine but no pump. My father is an expert machinist and after making a bushing for the crank and a few spacers we were able to adapt the good engine with the good pump. Works like a champ! After a few hours of pressure washing and another couple of hours ripping the boards to width, I was able to get back to installing boards. My wife also got enough boards painted to finish the stripe for the back wall.

We were also able to get a little done below the stripe.

I probably have enough wood stockpiled to finish about half of this back 40' wall. Will post more pics soon.

I started out using my miter saw, then picked up a radial arm saw for free off of CL. The RAS made short work of it. Then I sold it on CL for $40.

Love your idea of the old fence boards. Last August, I was able to score two sides of a pole they were taking down, free, and I removed all the siding to use in my new shop. Great patina.

Just a thought: With no drywall behind it, you don't really have any fire separation between the garage and house. Wouldn't be doing any welding next to that wall.

When it gets really dry, it's a lot like kindling.

It's a detached garage, no need for a firewall break.

Bought a new 12" miter saw from HF, caught it on sale for $120. Not top of the line but it will get the job done.

Worked on the back wall for a couple of hours today.

Hope to get a little more done tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming!

love the look and your being green and helping the planet. you could probably use old pallets also. i like it cause its cheap and cool looking like an old barn. try looking on CL for a new pressure washer. every time i see them at a garage sale the pumps are junk but the motors are good.

Got more done today. Feel like I'm wasting bandwidth for posting these small incremental changes but here you go:

I'm better than half way on this 40' x 12' wall. I won't have enough wood to finish it. It nice to be back in the groove on this project. I've gone 2 days without any equipment failures!

Yes I'm ripping them all down to 5" wide. The boards all all over the place on width. Anywhere from 5" to 6.25".

We're going to use some type of metal roofing product.

old used, beat up, used-to-be-painted corrugated roofing would look good with those walls

Got a lot done this weekend! Ended up having enough wood to finish the 40' wall.

Happy with the way it turned out. Need to break up all the wood with some color. Plan on putting a BIG American flag in the center of this back wall. Then adding more racing banners that we've accumulated over the years.

My wife has been busy painting wood for the accent stripe. She's also started painting the bathroom door. Think we've decided on solid black. I'm going to put diamond plate on the center panels of the door.

Bad news is that we are totally out of wood. Need to scrounge up more fencing. So it will be awhile before any new updates.

One 36' wall left to do!

That's going to take several sections of fencing to get that wall finished. Hopefully, you can find some in the near future. Maybe people will be starting to repace fencing when they get they're tax refunds back.

I have had some luck doing that in that past. Not sure what other people use it for, but there is a lot of competition for old fencing.

I have 150' of fencing at the back of my lot that could stand to be replaced. Might go that route?

Booyah! Scored 65' of fence. Good stuff too. Too old is no good because it's too far gone. Too new tends to be warped. This stuff is right in the sweet spot. Should be able to knock out at least half of this last big wall. BUT, it's 28 degrees here today so no pressure washing for me.

I wish I had shortcuts for you. I've been lucky and find a lot of fences built with too long of a nail, to the point they're sitcking out the backside of the 2x4. Makes removing the nail a lot easier.

We're still kicking it around but I think we're going to use sheets of metal roofing.

I have had some luck doing that in that past. Not sure what other people use it for, but there is a lot of competition for old fencing.

They are probably tearing apart and using it for bon fires to cook hot dogs and roast marshmallows over.

This is really a great way to do a wall. Gives me fond memories of my Grandparents house in which they had a custom slatted wood ceiling. Gave it such a warm feeling. Keep it up!
