I have an opportunity to buy 3 sets or gearwrench sockets from a friend of mine for 75$ brand new in original packaging. Just wanted to know if anyone had some gearwrench sockets and what they thought of them quality wise

Thanks!

I've got a set of 1/4 drive mid depth I've used professionally for a bit over a year, I love them. Held up well and are my go to set now

Gearwrench definitely makes quality ratchets and sockets, although I wouldn't label them as a quality brand all around (same way I wouldn't buy screwdrivers from Knipex).

Personally I would buy the all in one box sets long before I'd buy individual rails of gearwrench sockets. By the rail is about the most expensive way to get them. It wouldn't cost you much more to get a lot more.

That's not really a good deal for those sets. You should be able to get those for around $20 a set.

You can buy the complete 6 point 3/8 sets in metric and sae with 2 84 tooth ratchets, AND the complete 1/4" 6 point sets in metric and sae with the 120xp ratchet brand new for $109..

Here's the thread I started on the deal. Pics inside

Edit - if I wasn't clear - those sets include both complete shallow and deep sockets in each set, and they skip no sizes.

I think the Gearwrench chrome sockets I have are some of the nicest finished sockets inside & out. The deep knurling on the bases of the metric sockets make for great finger spinning. They have nice large size markings and feature off corner engagement too. I've had mine for several years and they've served me well.
You'd have to run the part numbers of the sets you might get through ebay because, Cripe Distributing has some excellent pricing on sets often.

I have the 1/2" SAE deep wells and have used them regularly in an industrial environment for about a year now. No issues that Iv'e noticed and would buy them again.

If you were to buy those three sets off amazon prime it would cost you about $80.65 before tax, so you will save a couple bucks and help get them off your friends' hands. I use gear wrench sockets, I own the sets you mentioned, and you will enjoy using them. Never had a problem with them.

I like Gearwrench sockets. For the average home user they are great. I have a set that I keep in my truck.

That said, I think that price is too high. Gearwrench stuff goes on sale pretty often and you can usually get way more sockets for less money.

I had a couple thousand dollars worth of snap on ratchets and sockets stolen and I replaced many with gearwrench. I figured I had both snap on wrenches and gearwrench wrenches, I ended up using gearwrenches a lot, may as well try the socket sets. The ratchets are good, but I prefer the knurling and the easier to read snap on sockets, but for the cheap price gearwrench is very good.

All the Verizon fleet mechanics use gearwrench sockets / ratchets / pliers.. That's what's issued to them.. They work on everything from civics to f750 and freightliner diesels. I think gearwrench is a very undervalued choice in tools..

I think the 3/8" and bigger sockets are fine. I would rather have Carlyle (or better) for 1/4" sockets myself.

I have been called a "GearWrench Shill", on these hallowed pages...

I plead guilty...

My theory has always been "The Mostest for the Leastest"...

That said...

The sets you quoted are too expensive...

Buy the master sets, and a set of the 120tooth Flex Head Ratchets and you'll have your needs covered for the next couple of decades...

Or...

(Get the sets listed in posting #11...)
