I would, flaking plating is a massive issue in a lot of industries .
I had a set of Koken sockets and snapon wrenches that flaked and chipped badly and beside splinter issue it was big issue if working on engines hydraulics etc and had be addressed ...

That’s a valid point and something I pay attention too as well. I have some specific sets that are dedicated to certain tasks and never allowed to crossbreed.

Gedore are basically industrial tools, and they’ve never been regarded in the U.K. as “top end”, or priced as such. It was only when I came on this forum that I saw them being discussed in the same league as Hazet. They’re not, and the finish is appropriate to their use at best...

In the USA, Gedore made-in-Germany tools are priced as a premium tool, albeit no where near the price of Snap-on tools.

There are actual cracks in those sockets that have been plated over. I wouldn't even hesitate to return that ****.

that's what I see too

if you can eyeball it and see it off-center, then it is out of spec. way way more a ten-thou

The tool market has changed a bit over the years...men have too. Nowadays they judge a tool on appearance mostly, they want jewelry style chrome like a lady like gold plating. Often they wont do auto work as they don't want to dirty their clothes or scratch the chrome on their prized tools. Next they'll be competing in women's Sports

I not interested in jewelry like chrome but I do like see a proper formed broach from good tooling, roll stamping not double stamped alignment pretty central and open end jaw internals finish straight and parallel thus likely good fitment as all these issues affect tool ability/use.
These photos show some right garbage and it ain't like they 2 buck a socket brand is it !
I could forgive the wrench handle grinds and pits but looking at the voids and alloy structure within those sockets suggest less than ideal billets cuts being forged and the broach tooling needs maintenance lol .

Back in the 80's in the service and on a tight budget I bought a Gedore wrench set at the discount store Pay and Save. I still have them, marked made in India wonder if it is the same company? They have served me well.

I hadn’t heard of Gedore before. Amazon offers what looks like a fairly complete travel or truck set for a reasonable price. Many of the reviews are from Germany but one reviewer states that the tools are Taiwan made. The Amazon listing doesn’t say.

Gedore are probably one of the biggest tool manufacturers in Europe. Their tools are relatively common. They are generally made in Germany, or other European countries

Gedore “red” are totally different. These are inexpensive tools from the far east, generally Taiwan. Basically, they are just selling the name. Not a particularly novel business plan. They might make a bit of short term cash for a few years before they damage the brand.

Germans buying Gedore will be expecting German made tools, and will probably be somewhat annoyed to find Taiwanese tools, and not the best either. $210 is about $150 too much for that set.

Same company. I think I read that Gedore watered down their brand for a long time by farming out production for international markets. I had a couple of those India forged wrenches also and they were fine.

The grind marks on the 26 mm are bad. But the crooked jaw on the 27 is unacceptable. The flaws in the sockets and castings don't really bother me that much.

You're obviously unhappy though, so send it all back.

My observations as well.

Make CCP-Craftsman look good, not even Harbor Freight quality.
Look like Flea-market stuff.
And I'm no tool snob. I break 'em all.

Sorry to say that to the OP but you should have researched better before buying your tools with your hard earned ££££.

By going to the Gedore importer directly which happens to be near you, you probably also paid full list price hence the added disappointment.

By looking at the pictures, some blemishes are reason to return and others are not.

The 26 and 27 mm open end wrenches are the only pieces that are a bit questionable, and I’ve seen wrenches from other “Industrial”manufacturers with similar “flaws”, such as Facom, Armstrong, etc.
The sockets are pretty standard as far as production quality goes for certain brands, as is the painted interior of the sockets.
There have been a number of GJ threads about sockets with painted interiors.
The little flaws are from flaking firescale from the heating and forging process. It is highly common on rough sand blasted and plated wrenches and other tools.
The rough belt sanded finish is also really common on “rough finished” sandblasted and plated wrenches. I’ve seen industrial brands with way courser sanding marks.

I have a set of those too, same era, likely bought at the same store chain.

So far, they're the only cheap set that I have with none broken.

Remember though, these were made in the 80s, they might be different now.

I have a Warren Brown 1/4" torque wrench that has no ratcheting mech, so the Gedore was small and looked to fit the bill. Zoro had it for $80 with the 20% off. What a piece of absolute trash. Probably 32t at best, but more likely 20 or so, which I could live with, but all full of backdrag. Felt like a cheap $12 ratchet at best. Don't buy the 754-**.
