well I'm not doing any of that, I leave all the circuits on except for the 240v circuits that I know I can't run, AC, oven and dryer. I have a 100 amp breaker for my barn that I leave on (there's nothing out there that runs unless I'm out there)..........now that with a little common sense and it works out good.

Common sense isn't common any more !

Worst case, you might not be able to run the microwave, coffee pot, electric frying pan and toaster while the wife is drying her hair !

IKR.....common sense, although with these LED bulbs that are only using 9 and 10 watts you can leave a lot of them on

The difference is, people can get away with putting an interlock in without a permit.

Cant do that when the power needs to be disconnected.

The type of manual transfer switch I suggested does not require the meter to be removed, just the main disconnect switched off if you're not comfortable working in a live panel, so still not sure what you're talking about.

If you're talking about a whole house automatic transfer switch, that's a whole other ballgame in both cost and capacity!

There's only two of us here and so far with 7500 watts I have not tripped the breaker on the generator or the panel, just going about everyday things, out in the garage turning lights on or opening the garage doors, coffee pots in the kitchen, computers, led tv's and so on. Most of that stuff doesn't use very many watts anyway. It just needs some available.

Im talking about a service rated manual or automatic transfer switch.

The reliance panel is good but the larger ones require a lot of wiring. some prefer a transfer switch that switches the whole load and requires less wiring.
