You bumped a two year old thread to give misleading information.... A 2,000 - 4,000 watt generator will NOT start the 2.5 ton A/C unit that is mentioned in post number one of this thread. This is NOT an RV A/C unit. We're talking about a residential A/C unit that runs on 240 volts and draws 73 amps to start the compressor. Your 2,000 - 4,000 watt generator recommendation isn't even close to putting out enough power... not to mention they're the wrong voltage to begin with. (most, if not all 2,000 - 4,000 watt generators only put out 120 volts)When selecting a generator for your AC unit, compare the starting and running wattage to the generator's capacity. Simply refer to the AC unit specifications to make an informed decision. In general, a 2,000 to 4,000-watt or higher generator should suffice for most RV AC units.
