Getting near time to install heater flue

I am about to hang my new Beacon Morris ceiling heater in my new 28ft x 30ft detached garage/shop, and am debating whether to route the flue up, through a 12/12 pitch roof, or laterally through Hardie Board wall siding.

I think the only good option is going laterally, given that the temperature is about 10-20deg F here in Southeast Michigan now. I'm also reluctant to cut a big hole in my brand new roof.

Any words of wisdom and experience?

I hate roof leaks. They can be devastating. Anything you can do to avoid a hole in your roof will be good. Trouble is that the side flues can look pretty goofy.

If you go out the side you will need to use the stainless pipe instead of B-vent.

I prefer the roof, a properly installed flashing will last as long as the roof without leaking.

I can refer you to a roofer in Brighton who can properly install a flashing even in this weather.

By all means, please provide contact details. I'm not far from Brighton.

I'd much prefer going out the roof but have no confidence in doing it myself successfully.

I have one building with the flue through the roof and another with it through the sidewall. Both work great and I have never had a problem with either of them.
