GFCI receptacle needs to be reset after power outage?

I have one GFCI receptacle in my garage that needs to be reset every time the power goes out or flickers from a storm or whatever.

It's the only one, and I know I should just replace it, but is this a common thing? It's a 15A Eaton, so it's not a cheapie. Strangely enough, the cheapies I have all stay on after power loss, but DO trip when I plug the GFCI tester thing in and hit the button.

So...do I have a defective GFCI?

Maybe, does it trip with the tester? It could have a sensitive part of the circuit somewhat defective and easily irritated.

When you say cheap, how much you talkin?

How much was the Eaton?

I use levitons and havent had issues with them tripping.

Cheap as in it's a brand name, lol. Not the 20A paladins I got for $8.50 each. I got the Eaton on clearance at Lowe's for $5, but msrp is $15

I've had GFCI outlets completely fail... never a ghost trip tho. All of mine are Levitons with the little green light ... showing it has power.

Oh, yes, it does reset with the tester. Both the built-in test button, and the plug-in tester.

Even if I turn the breaker off, then back on (simulating a power outage), the outlet does not come back on until I press the reset button.

I may just replace the breaker with a GFCI breaker and put a standard outlet in.

I turn "Off" kitchen lite=,blows breakerACGFI ,electrician says "Normal" ,I had another Electrician check it out,needs complete rewire(Of Kitchen).$8,000 later contractor won't do anything,I can replace the $45 breaker.Sad ,New $350,000 home and they cannot FIX it! County "Inspected" this Home???

Is this receptacle feeding anything else downstream that might be causing this? If not I would just change it out.
