I have decided to go with the Lithi-Tek 4500/Ghostshield 8510 combo for my (practically new) garage floor. I have the 4500 on hand, and I am hoping to get everything off the floor and get the 4500 sprayed on this weekend.

How clean does the floor need to be before spraying on the 4500? The garage was finished in May, and has seen very light use since then. The floor was power troweled, and there are a few spots I know I will have to clean (spills from the contractors, bird droppings from before the garage door was installed, and a few car/lawnmower tire marks), but would it be beneficial to clean the entire floor? And by clean I mean scrub/pressure wash, I plan to sweep the floor before spraying the 4500 regardless.

Thanks,
Russ

You want a clean floor so that any contaminants on the surface do not inhibit penetration of the 4500 or 8510. Additionally, any stains from petroleum products that are not cleaned to your satisfaction will be permanently locked into the concrete after application.

Cleaning the concrete beforehand is the most important step and not one that you want side step to make things easier.

Hi. The floor must be clean for proper penetration so we would recommend a good cleaning before applying the Densifier.

As we say daily “The secret is in the prep”

You want the floor to be clean enough that the sealer penetrates. If you have tire marks, oil stains, etc the sealer will not soak in.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses. I guess I'll go ahead and pressure wash the entire floor where I can. I assume the concrete will need to dry thoroughly before applying the 4500, so that may push my install back a bit.

Now I just need to decide how much 8510 to purchase and get it ordered. If I skip the bathroom, which will have a plastic vapor barrier and a floating floor, I have 628 square feet to cover, so I need 2 gallons and about 13 ounces. I can't decide whether I want to stretch 2 gallons by going light on the low traffic areas that are unlikely to see oil spills or whether to get 3 gallons and use the excess to seal the apron leading to the garage.

I did the same but used 8505 because 8510 wasn’t available. Pad outside was 20’x30’ with brush finish. I would get 3 gallons of 8510 for the project. Inside the barn used smooth finish and the densifier and 8505 went on well. But outside the brushed surface soaked up more material than the smooth. So go 3 gallons and be safe.
Also on the cleaning, it’s never too clean and I cleaned hard and mine was new. If you think it’s clean, clean again and more dirt shows up.
